At noon on the seventeenth of June, a shimmering curtain of white static appears near each Visitor. It demands attention and awareness, a fuzz on the edge of their senses. The ungifted around them cannot see it; they walk through it without seeing it, and do not pass into the otherworld on the other side of the door. Those Visitors who pass through it find themselves back in the Court, in a room they have never seen.

The room is massive and circular, the walls white as fresh snow. The floor on which they stand is mahogany hardwood. There are intricately patterned blue-and-cream carpets on the floor. The walls are empty and artless. The room is three stories high; they can tell, because they're standing on the second floor, which is a large viewing gallery. To the left is a staircase that follows the wall down to the first floor. To the right is a matching staircase that follows the wall to the third floor. These staircases are cordoned off for now. Behind the visitors as they step out of the static-door is a sitting area full of plush cream couches and armchairs. There is no food on the sideboards.

As they step up to the mahogany banisters that surround the edges of the second floor, they can see below them black-robed figures putting the finishing touches on a massive sigil.

There is no one here, yet.

You are currently restricted to the second floor.

Should you attempt to go upstairs or downstairs by any mechanism, an angry fetch will redirect you.

As in the Conference, any conversation held in this thread can be overheard, save for those conversations which are held in private telepathic conversation. Should you wish to have a private conversation, post an exit for your characters and create a new thread in the event forum. Your characters can re-enter once the private conversation thread has been wrapped.

approachable npcs
    Silk
  • The Regent of the Spinel Lady. In the absence of the physical form of the Charter, Silk is the leader of the noble faction. She is the oldest fetch and the strongest of them, magically speaking. Silk responds best to those who show her respect and who demonstrate good manners. Disrespect and disinterest only earn her ire.

present, unapproachable npcs

The seventeenth rolled around. It meant that there was a buzz in the air, an almost palpable energy that was hard to ignore (and likely just Jeremiah's imagination). When the shimmering curtain of static appeared during tea time, familiar as ever, Jeremiah let out a breath.

"That," he said, "would be our cue. At least we actually got to have tea." Something to eat as well. An arm was offered to Algie, a smile given to Cass (because she had come over for tea and was, more than ever, involved with what was going on) before he gestured to walk through.

Coming through on the other side, he raised an eyebrow at the lack of clothing change. A glance was given to Algie, looking back over his shoulder to watch for Cass to come through. For the moment, he was making sure she came through alright before he would look around. His hand, unconsciously, squeezed his husband's.

Nasir was actually holding two hands today. One of his hands was curled around Wil's, his boyfriend to his right, and the other was holding onto Alexis's, who was to his left, as they walked through the shimmery curtain of light.

He was nervous, of course, but that was a given considering just what was supposed to happen today.

"The Court should be on the other side," he murmured. A breath was taken as they stepped through, coming out near the edge. Nasir backed up a step from the edge, fingers loosening slightly as he leaned to look below.

"There's other people down there ..."

Wil was a bit nervous but he at least had grabbed a shirt before they departed the house. Of course the court would change their clothes, but the forethought had to count for something.

With Alexis and Nasir he surveyed the floor they appeared on, blinking sleepily as he approached the railing and glanced down.

The hooded figures had him murmuring, 'Do not talk about the dogpark. Do not approach the dogpark..' to himself.

Cass, despite becoming a kitchen gremlin in the Mercer home, had also done her best to be respectful of the Mercers' time and not come over for specific things unless invited. Tea time was one of such things. That didn't mean once invited she hadn't been quite enthusiastic about spending time with both men, made almost entirely of sunshine as she sat drinking tea that was promisedly more authentic than anything down a grocery store aisle.

She wasn't adventurous enough to go much farther than that to look for it anyways.

Her cup had barely touched the table when the fuzziness started, rubbing the corner of her eyes with a frown as she didn't immediately look towards it. Only when Jeremiah acknowledged it did she look towards the veil that had been presented to the trio. Well, she'd be prepared for that blue dress again and with a full belly at least not have too much on her mind.

Both Algie and Jeremiah were offered a bright smile. "I guess it's time," she said, though her nerves showed a little bit as she followed after them.

Perhaps it was good there was an enchantment to keep from falling, because Cass leaned against the railing and peered down with great interest - with that same overly-leaning posture as she had at the floating market. She'd fall to her death one day with that going on.

Hopefully nobody would break anything like she had.

The morning of the seventeenth brought Algie a minor edge of anxiety. The shimmering static's appearance was a relief in some ways and only an increase in his worries in others. At least they wouldn't have to wait all day for something to happen..

Entering in on his husband's arm Alg exhaled audibly as they entered the viewing floor. His grip on his husband tightened lightly a moment as he looked for more faces, only to see people showing up on the opposite side. He did also glance back though, for Cassandra behind them.

Her immediate beeline for the railing had him tensing but thankfully there was no dangerous falling to her death.

Leila had brought Eve with her when the curtain appeared. The latter wrinkled her nose in some displeasure at the strange way the air felt to her, but had decided a moment before she would have to force herself to acclimate to it. Having Leila nearby would help, at least for the time being.

The seer-slash-warg-slash-Multitude representative was so apprehensive it was making her skin tingle. She'd ended up bringing Biscuit along with her for this event, part to help keep her grounded and part to help look after Eve. While getting a feel for their surroundings, she also kept an eye out for America or Kaleb.

Alexis was still walking with a limp, leaning on Nasir a little heavily, lips tight -- they'd had a feeling the Court wouldn't dress them, not without magic, so they'd at least tried to look presentable. That it wasn't dressing anyone made them feel a little better about it. A long, dark skirt of some silky material, flats (that might have come as a surprise to anyone, because as far as anyone knew Alexis' shoe-wardrobe was two pairs of running shoes); long, dark sleeves, a low collar. It was, all in all, a little bit Catholic schoolgirl.

"...D'you see Preacher Maria? I need to apologize to her for somethin'..."

They stayed away from the railing.

"No, not yet," Nasir replied, looking around and noticing there were others already on the other side. "I'll keep an eye out." His hand squeezed theirs, keeping a tight hold on them.

Jeremiah let out a breath, a quiet one of amusement, as Cass made a beeline for the railing. Squeezing Algie's arm, he walked with him towards the railing as well and looked down below.

"Looks like they're putting down the finishing touches," he said. The work that Silk and Odal had put into everything, into organizing this and assisting the visitors and differentiated, was more than worth thanking them for. This was far beyond what magic he had worked himself and what he had seen within the memories of the void.

Erin had never been so annoyed to have a floating white sheet follow her around before. It was always there, always present, always demanding attention and Erin had more things to do than be bothered by a white sheet.

Like rebuild a Charter. Or something.

It was only until a quarter after noon did she turn, quite by accident while getting up to go make lunch on her day off, and pass through the curtain and found herself distinctly not in Ashdown anymore. Oh. It was there to take her to this event. For remaking the Charter. Right.

She supposed she should have known something like this would happen today. Then she wouldn't be standing in a place in the Court she'd never been too before, in a pair of loose sleep shorts, a sports bra, and a Zelda hoodie. Well that was awkward.

She'd appeared sort of far away from the others, who congregated together, and she zipped up her hoodie in an attempt to look passably presentable. She looked down at the sigil and robed figures. She should go to the group and say hi, and talk about this Chartering business but...

Fingers curled around the railing and she stayed put, braided hair falling over her shoulder.
