Demonic Musings
Something is happening. Though the world seems to be in the process of trying to right itself after months of turmoil, something is changing. Perhaps seers have seen visions of shadows in the darkness, of bright eyes of fire and starlight and molten gold in the night. Perhaps whispers of an entire pride displaced from their home has reached the ears of the Story Seekers. But the Watchers now bring news of strangers, of outsiders, coming to the border of the Kizingo'zaa.

The demons have come to talk.

Welcome, all, to the meeting of the Kizingo'zaa and the diplomatic party from the Aegnor'hini! This RP takes place a day [figuratively] before this one begins, and is part of both the Kizingo'zaa and Aegnor'hini metaplots! This is open to all Kizingo'zaa members and members of the Aegnor'hini diplomatic party!

The lands south of the Kizingo'zaa lay unclaimed, and the Aegnor'hini are looking to not only claim them, but are seeking safe passage to them through the lands of the Kizi. But time has taught the demons something, and it's that just strongarming their way through won't earn them any allies. So they've sent a small group ahead to try and make friends.

For every post from a non-pride leader, you'll earn a ticket for one of the rare demon-leopards! This boyo does come with siblings [one of whom has already been homed], and a bit of a backstory. Their parents haven't been in the picture for a very long time, and this boy is the oldest sibling who raised his younger brother and sister. He is a pridal custom, and thus must stay in the Aegnor'hini unless it disbands.

Utunossë had expected the welcome they'd gotten. Sort of. A little. She'd known that they would likely be viewed with suspicion and uncertainty. They were, after all, outsiders. And ones that had obviously seen their share of battles, in the case of some members of the party. So while she walked with her head high, she tried to not make any moves that could be taken wrongly. They were there to try and make friends, to try and broker safety to the lands south of the pride.

Cesta clang to her back, trying to not look like a puff of unnerved feathers. One of the guards of the pride was eyeing them warily, and the bird didn't like it one bit. But when they drew to where their escorts wanted them, she forced her feathers to behave. She nudged the back of Utu's head encouragingly before moving to perch on Lachiell, to ensure that her mistress had full range of motion for speaking. The Kinseeker took a deep breath...and spoke.

"Kizingo'zaa. My name is Utunossë, and I am a Hir'erthad of the Aegnor'hini. A...diplomat, if you will. This party you see here comes to you on behalf of the rest of our pride, young and old, strong and weak. We seek to speak to the leader or leaders of this pride." For all that she was pale, she still bore the blood of leaders in her veins, and she spoke with all the conviction of one.

He knew what these strangers were. And he didn't like it at all. Maisha kept his claws sheathed, but he was wary, every fiber of his being on guard. He'd been raised to fight them, to not suffer them to live. They went by a different name, but they were demons. They were just a new version of the Aikanaro'hini. He knew the colors and markings a good half the party bore, knew them as traits of the main lines of the demons. But he knew to wait. To watch. And he would be ready if they made a single misstep.

Two lions stepped out to greet Utunossë, though to those in the know, they'd know that the lioness of the pair was definitely not a leader of the pride. Or the mate of one. Or high ranking. She had simply insisted on coming with Shanhali-- No, she'd practically dragged him, babbling about lions and... Demons... It was a strange thing. He had at first thought that it was her muse, until he realized it was her seer visions.

Though really, they'd done this several times in the past three days, at least, because she wasn't sure on the timing, other than 'soon', which was... Incredibly vague. So when he'd heard the lioness' words and stepped out, he was justifiably surprised. "Well paint me with feathers and call me a bird, there's actually somebody here this time..." He looked at Emera, even though the lioness couldn't see him, and let out a quiet 'huh'. "Those visions are vague but... Accurate."

The pale lioness smiled broadly, her giant whiskers twitching. "I told you there were lions coming! I knew it three warm times ago!" She bounced a bit where she stood, messy hair tuft shaking free a few twigs. If Shanhali reached up to pluck a stray dried up leaf from the mess, she didn't comment. Instead, she sniffed the air, whiskers twitching and large ears shifting, still practically dancing in place. "I'm so glad you're finally here! I've only Seen good things so far between our prides!" Beside her, Shanhali made a quiet comment about her not being one of the leaders, though for the moment she ignored it. "How many of my siblings might be among you? Or do I have cousins?" She let out an excited giggle, sitting down roughly. "Oh, maybe father has a new mate! Or more? I've caught glimpses of him with lionesses of all kinds in my visions! Are they well?" And then, the all important question, "Though none of them told me why you came, is everything alright?"

"Gods above, Emera!" Shanhali reached up, covering her mouth with a paw. "You never cease, do you?" To his dismay, the cheerful lioness only shook her head, causing him to let out a quiet groan.

Although Utunosse was in charge of this little adventure, Noh'Vah had followed if only to serve as, well, the voice of one with actual rotal blood. She'd met some normal pridemember offhandedly once, and now she was coming to meet alongside Utunosse, and entreat the pride allow theirs safe passage. Of course, the female was aware concessions might yet be needed -- and that she was prepared for, the heiress walking forward with the confidence and grace of a proper demon. Her scarred patches, the fighting and even her once ago fight with the Nat sisters shifted and showed her pride, power, and willingness to protect her pride by force if needed, but the calm, the grace, and lack of claws showed she didn't seek a ight. Instead the lioness only intended to protect as a last resort -- words were needed and as if to seal evidence of her peaceful intentions, the dark raven of her two personal sador roost on her back between her shoulders, watching in silence as tyhey passed into the jungle. Fear, suspicion, yes! This was all anticipated, and while Noh noted it, Itzal was the one to drink in every eye, every hint of observation... And every threat to the diplomatic party, especially knowing he was to rush for Moricorm with news as soon as needed. And so, he matched his mistress' confidence, calm, and efforts at poise, only making a soft skrring sound as they moved along.

Besides.

They both knew they had a force of nature in their corner. A grey and blue leopard with golden eyes trailed after the party, the male careful and guarded, but mostly seeming content to keep to himself, moving along through the trees instead of along the ground. No, he didn't wish to touch ground, but....

Primitus didn't dare merely arrive in his godly granduer either. There was no proof his brother was still here and they diudn't know these creatures. Still, he paced Noh, in trees, so it was sort of like flying, and the leopard-formed god almost danced along his path, dropping next to Noh only briefly when Shanhali drew out to approach Utunosse, regarding Maisha and thrn... Oh.

Ooooohhh no nope thisd was a bad idea he didn't bring Accendo and what if Emnera hated him or killed him EVERYTHING WAS HORRIBLE.

The God-incognito almost seemed to wither and shrink behind Noh, the female blinking and glancing to him quizzically, as if asking if he was doing thisw now, before turning her eyes on the faces she did see. She wasn't entirely sute why Proimitus-- oh. Noh too, spied Emera, noting the wingmarking that was often on Accendo nox Nictus, the rogue-daughter that attended to her father, and humme. Well, she had no desire to meddle in private dramas and shot the god a sharop look before looking to Utunosse, then Shanhali. One ear flicked, but she didn't speak, instead sitting firmly on her bottom. Let the fellow her leaders chose do her part. Wait, bide her time to speak, although the grin on her maw was widening as it formed first with that thought, the female ignoring Primitus hiding behind her. Noobgod.,

Shushara hadn't really been planning to do much today. Hunt a little, enjoy the sun, try not to listen to the incessant voice in her head, but while trying to hunt she ran across the beginning gathering and paused, blinking as the bright lioness tilted her head, tail swaying curiously. She didn't dare draw too close yet, but those faces.... That leopard reminded her of someone long ago, before leaving Daddy, and the female chirped softly in wonder, padding to find a space to watch. Oooo! An eciting!

((Making note to anyone reading that this takes place safely, chronologically, after the Kizi plot, and thus the Song Keeper is Chi at this time!))

Two lions seemed to show up initially, the female travelling just a few steps behind the clearly older, but somewhat feminine male. She looked unsure of herself and not at all comfortable being there, her frame lingering just beside that of her uncle's in an attempt to draw warmth and comfort from him. The male on the other hand, looked distinctly unimpressed by the demon party in front of them; it was unclear if this was a case of him finding them lacking in some way or simply that his default expression seemed to be stuck that way. Whatever Nili thought of the party was unimportant however, given that when the yellow lioness spoke up, all he did was nudge the female beside him forward a few paces.

When Chi shrunk inward, Nili nudged her harder, taking a n** at the base of her tail, and with a small squeak of uncertainty, she scurried to stand beside Shanhali. She felt unready to handle this sort of situation, given she had no mate, no one to really lean on, and had only just started to learn her role in the pride; it felt unnerving to be dropped at the deep end of the pool with minimal preparation, but sometimes... life waited for no one.

Nili did step forward until he placed himself directly behind his niece, squinting at the group in front of them; he would never be able to take them in a fight, granted, but he could stand there and judge silently. It was a right wonder how he'd maintained the role of Song Keeper himself for such a long time, given his surly attitude and his no nonsense outlook on life, and yet there he was. His gaze shifted to focus on Emera, and he let out a sigh, mostly directed at Shanhali. A weary look that clearly told the younger male that 'this' was not how to 'diplomat' at all. Emera should have stayed behind a slight bit, not by the Song Keeper, and she should certainly not be speaking!

"Perhaps Emera should come sit over here. With me?" He said softly from the sideline, arching a disgruntled brow before making a small motion at Chi to get on with it.

Before she could 'get on' with it, per say, a blue form dropped from the sky and landed in front of Song Keeper and Story Keeper.

Muhali had since abandoned her disguise as Lead Mummer and stood on front of the lions that lead her pride, her eyes fixed first on Utunossë and then on Noh'Vah. They stayed and lingered on the other later, her brow furrowing at the quiet power of what was clear a warrior, "Stop," she said as the so called 'demoness' walked forward with pride and confidence. It was not a request, but clearly a command; Muhali had a litter of cubs in a cove just a small bit away from there and her territorial instincts were kicking in. Freshly out of the turmoil, she did not wish for more drama, and a pride of warriors were going to have to leave their pride and confidence at the door if they wished to make good with her, at least until she could verify their good intentions.

"I do not wish to disrespect, young one, but I have no intention of letting anyone past me until we sit and talk, all as equals. I don't care how many fights you've won or how many scars you carry as throphies upon your pelts. I do not care about your past, where you came from or what you did once upon a time, but if you set foot in my lands.... you will not spill one drop of blood, is that understood?" She meant it literally, that much was clear, and as she spoke, behind her in the distance, in the trees, a large, black goddess peeked out. Maua was there, watching the party, but not too close in case her powers would interfere with the meeting, "I will judge if you are threat or ally, along with the two leaders behind me, and if we deem it necessary, you will go around our territory, not through it; you will heed my word and you will do as told. I will stand for no violence, and if anyone tries to push their weight here, trust me when I say they will regret it severely. I am here simply to let you know that no matter what is decided here, I will not see force used," she stared at Noh'Vah when she said that, the lioness' bulk not gone unnoticed.

She stood once more, narrowed her eyes at the strangers for a moment and then walked to sit near Nili; her daughter Maua had told her about these ones, and she did not know that she liked their presence here. Everyone, however, deserved a second chance, and Maua had assured her that this pride was not exactly like their ancestor pride; that was the only reason Muhali hadn't instantly sprung up her own powers to protect the Kizi.

She would give these new ones a chance.

Chi, having finally regained some form of confidence and finally spoke up, looking Utunosse in the eye, "Muhali is mothering a litter," she said softly, "Please forgive her coldness... she is unsure if your presence would pose a threat now, or in the future to her cubs. Mothers do tend to be protective of their young," a pause followed and she looked from one Demon to the other, "The question is... do you?" she asked, "Pose a threat, I mean," the clarification was needed, and almost broke her concentration, but a flicker of her uncle's tail brushing the side of her rump in encouragement pushed her forward once more, "And what do we, as a pride, gain from harboring safe passage to you through our land? You gain safety and our land to hunt in... what do we gain? A pact must be mutually beneficial for both sides in order for it to be a success."

Matope was none too please- she was growing old, old and she wished to enjoy the twilight years of her life in relative peace. Watching her babies, and her babies' babies grow up into big, strong, kind lions and lionesses- it was a simple wish she had, and one that seemed as unlikely to come true as wishing the stars out of the sky, for every time it seemed the dust would settle, every time she had cubs to watch after and enjoy- Dear, stubborn Aladra's litter, Chi'mkia's litter- still young, still oh, so small and fragile, even with Muhali adding to her grandbabies and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Demon-lions, however, demon-lions had absolutely no place here, and it was that reason Matope followed her grand-niece and her nephew to the border. She was old, she knew the reputations, and she refused to let her sweet cubs- grown though they were- walk into a wolves' den without her there to watch over them.

For once, she didn't so much as sniff at the Kizingo'Zaa's idiot child of a Story Keeper- there were bigger concerns, and it broke Matope's heart to watch her little Chi'pya walk out to face the demon's 'diplomat' alone- though she remained respectfully behind, glowering at any non-Kizingo'Zaa lion who so much as glanced at her. The old lioness only really allowed her hackles to lower when Muhali herself stepped back- the old brown lioness stepping over to join the goddess, tongue rasping comfortingly over the mother's ear just once before turning her head back to continue glowering.

She knew full well- you could knock a leopard out of a tree, but you could not take away that leopard's urge to climb it again.

The tiny lioness that padded along in Nili'maua's shadow, however, could not have held herself more differently if she had tried. In contrast to the rest of the tiny group's raised hackles and hissing, she moved with a steady, fluid ease, ghost of a smile still gracing her maw as she sat next to Nili, watching the interactions with a faint sense of amusement.

The tension was so thick she could physically bat at it, she was very certain of it. So, eyeing the large lioness who had approached, everyone's posturing- even Muhali, though that one was rather deserved, given she was the pacifist pride's protector. Finally sighing, she looked up at her effeminate friend with a half-smile, loudly whispering, "Nili, look how big and scary those Demons are!" not quite loud enough to carry, of course, it was still a whisper- though not one that was particularly hidden from the Kizi lions who lingered near her.... As was her completely deadpan, sarcastic tone, "I'm so intimidated. Really. Just terrified."

Matope is a bit late getting her cert, please forgive me! But you can see her here. Aladra just recently joined the Kizi as well, so she does not yet have an updated Kizi cert.

Anairë would be lying if she said that she wasn't on edge about this whole thing. Thank the Gods for her level head, and thank them further for her position at the back of the group. She had chosen to stay back, watching closely to be sure. Utunossë. She was not here to speak, only to be the guard for more...airheaded lions...Like Narakera. Shaking her head, she traced towards Noh and Prim, keeping herself a bit closer to the pair in the back. There was something that was off, some faces that might well know them. Too many risks. A low purr thrumed in her chest, trying to reassure the God in mortal form, and gently offer Noh the same comfort. She was here to protect in every way possible.

The smaller dark lioness had been towards the back of the group, at least until Utu had spoken, and then she'd decided to come up to sit near the Kinseeker, a smile bright on her maw. The wandering lioness couldn't help the croon of excitement, looking at Muhali and all the others with excitement on her face. There was only one thing that made her shrink back, a bit closer to Utunossë, and that was the bitter statement made by some lioness. Ears went flat and the female wrapped her tail around her paws, making a tiny sound. She did not speak, for fear of angering anyone, but...perhaps this had been a bad idea....

User Image

Gods above, she did not like this. The people around her made the voices in her head act up, made her feel all too much like her mother. Leaving the female alone back with the wanderers had been hard enough, and now here was some rough-tongued lion trying to be a showoff. Growling low, the Kiirar offered only a sharp smile tossed the way of the offender. Crimson eyes were wary, watching both the Kinseeker, and those of royal blood amongst them, "Here's hoping prejudice will not affect treaty." Her own sarcastic remark was kept lower and more to other demons around her, all too aware of how the outside world viewed them. Let them judge, for she knew well that they were here only for peace, not some silly feud over perception.

Heading into foreign territory was always a risk. Mirill knew this - it was why she'd been assigned to the diplomatic party in the first place. She knew the stories of their pride's history - of her father's childhood exploits, of the death of Iartuupe at the paws of her uncle, of the many clashes with the Mwako'bi'Giza. They had a reputation carved out in blood, and while the new leadership had changed things, it would take time for the rest of the world to see them anew. The risk of a fight was a very real one, and although every demon could hold their own, it was still prudent to assign a couple Cor'osta to the group to ensure they made it back to the pride as a whole.

The eyes of the pride's guards following their every step hadn't escaped her notice, of course. That had been anticipated - while their group was small in comparison to the bulk of the pride, it was still a respectably sized party. And with the rest of their pride in the rogue lands, it would be easy to mistake them for an advance scouting party as a precursor to a proper invasion. It wasn't remotely their plan, of course, but the tactical part of her mind knew what it might look like, even with them openly announcing their presence.

The arrival of a goddess had been unexpected - enough of a surprise to stir Mirill into trotting to the front of the group, taking a defensive position near her sister and the Kinseeker. She did not have the size of most of the other lions of the party - she had inherited her mother's petite stature, after all. But training had made her body strong, and lessons her mind sharp. Her posture was carefully considered, hackles raised and tail lashing, but clearly not preparing an attack. No, she was ready to defend. To guard the rest of the lions in the party with her life, even if it meant facing down a goddess by herself.

Sure, they had their own god hidden among the group. And sure, if it came down to it, he would likely be the one to keep the goddess of their tail while they fled back to the pride. But too much ease with the aggression - too much arrogant confidence might tip their hand.

Fairë knew what his instructions were. His Master, his Eska'Sheleran, had made them very clear to him. Nyota'angavu could not join the diplomatic party himself - he had to stay with the pride and keep things in order. So he'd sent the raven to be his eyes and ears in his stead, entrusted him to the care of Mirill. And much like the other avian members of the party, he'd stayed firmly rooted to his lady's back, right up to the point she had rushed to the front of the party to take up a defensive position. The sudden movement had knocked him clean off his perch, forcing him to flap his wings awkwardly to avoid colliding with one of the other lion's in the party.

The raven let out a low croak of annoyance, shooting the goddess an irritated glare before returning to Mirill, perching this time atop her head and using his weight to force it down. He may have been a Sador, but he'd watch over this litter since they were cubs. Their father had entrusted him more than once to discipline the lot of them when they got too rowdy, to break up any play fights that looked to be getting too serious. And even now, with them long grown and rightfully demons, old habits died hard. "My Lady, calm yourself and observe them. They are readying no attack. You needn't jump to defend so quickly."

Das Tor
Mirill has proximity to Utunossë and Lachiell!

I'm guessing Muhali might have some Opinions on how readily Mirill leapt to a defensive stance. And also maybe on that Very Bold Raven scolding her for it.

"A good idea, Nili..." With a push, Shanhali ushered the pale lioness back toward the elder lion. He let out a huff at her and her exuberance, then toward the goddess as she appeared. It wouldn't take the casual observer much to see the similarities between himself and her, but he didn't outright advertise them, instead nodding along with her words. When she'd finished, he turned not toward the demons but toward Chi'pya. "So, Chi. What say you?" He inclined his head, "So long as they stay clear of the dens and where an eye can be kept on them, I don't personally mind." The dens, after all... Were incredibly private. The dens were also where Safi'macho lived making her brew, and THAT was something he wasn't about to let anybody see any more than the pride's cubs and homes.

Emera let out a little huff, but stepped back, settling near Nili. Her nose twitched as she scented everybody there, identifying every lion she knew and the new ones present. She recognized Shanhali's scent, of course, and Chi'pya's and Nili's. Then she smelled Muhali and internally giggled to herself, remembering when the goddess ran around the pride as a leopard. Or at least, Emera was told she was a leopard, to the lioness species didn't matter, it was how they smelled that did. She had no idea when the leopardess was around versus the goddess because of it, since to her, both smelled the same. Her nose twitched again, taking in more of the unique scents of the demons, and then she got a broad smile and wiggled excitedly when she scented something old and familiar... But she kept her mouth shut this time.

Utunossë was surprised by the pale lioness who bore a startling resemblance to Primitus' line. The arrival of a goddess spoke that they weren't the only ones with gods on their side, or in their lines. Not a surprise, really, considering all the seers that were in their own pride that had been born Outside. The Kinseeker did her best to look unruffled, nodding.

"We pose no threat so long as we aren't in danger." She looked to Mirill and Fairë. "He's right. We're fine, cor'osta." She looked back to the goddess and the two lions that seemed to be the leaders. "We know many tales exist of the pride we were, and we understand your caution. Time and circumstances have changed us, however, and now, it has seen fit to change even our home. The unrest experienced these past few months in nature itself robbed us of our home, and to your south, there are what we hope are still unclaimed lands. We came here seeking safe passage and to perhaps make friends with our potential neighbors, not trouble or a fight. We are happy to answer questions, and follow any restrictions you place on us while we are in your lands. It is, after all, your home we have come to. We've been rude enough showing up uninvited."

Lachiell moved behind Mirill, a paw reaching out to pat one of her back paws comfortingly. "At ease, sister. Remember, this is their home turf. They have a right to be wary and unnerved. We know the stories out there, and we aren't exactly an unimposing group." She looked towards the gathering lions of the Kizi and gave a small smile and a bow.

Maisha still eyed them warily, uncertain what to do with the lot. The way they talked didn't strike him like the Aikanaro'hini he'd known growing up. It was...different. But demons couldn't change? Could they?

Noh'vah listened to the conversation around her in silence, Itzal only making a soft sound at Muhali's presence as if to acknowledge her presence, but the corvid was no stranger to the presence of gods -- far from it. A low skrr was the only noise he made before Noh'Vah finally worked out to say, after she'd closed her eyes to think -- and chuckled a low, amused, almost contagious chuckle.

"It is as Utunosse sys. We mean no threat nor will raise a claw unless threatened. We simply mean to seek the safest route to a potential location and we felt asking the permission to pass through is the most prudent and polite means to greet our future neighbors." The pale lioness smiled faintly at Emera specifically, almost amused. While not addressing her yet, she knew herself well enough to know something Good was coming, and then the heiress' gaze turned to Muhali and Shanhali patiently.

"If it were of a comfort, if you wish we are but a party of diplomats, and if I may speak for my mother and one of our leaders, and do forgive me, Utunosse -" An apologetic nod to acknowledge the party leader.

"I would welcome youto send a response group of diplomats to discuss conditions in detail. I see no harm in defending yourselves or escorts -- truly, Iunderstand the need completely -- but it would not do for this to feel onesided or forced. We would actually welcome thge additional presence of strength, for our pride recognizes and respects strength in all forms. So too, if you so wish during thgattime, I am willing to remain -- consider it collatoral, a failsafe, or what have you -- where you will have me as a sign of respect and good faith. We understand youir fears and concerns, and Iwill see thatyou are comforted and salved as needed. I'm sure Accendo and Mioyo would agree to explain to my mothert? As it seems the Badhron is currently panicking again." Noh glanced over her shoulder to Primitus' leopard form, and the male flinched apologetically.

He was observing Muhali directly, hoping beyond hope the goddess didn't recognize his form as a mere alteration from his true form. He didn't WANT to provoke a fight, especially not when he had children to return to -- but Noh's offer surprised him, then her commentary--

Primitus squeaked, and looked as a massive red lioness of some age drew near, the darjk, glimmering form of Accendo nox Nictus approaching, Accendo surprised at Noh's 'greeting'.

"I apologize, we trailed behind."Mioyo apologized to all gethered, sighing.

"Calithil was gathering a few to assess what can be saved from our old lands, but." Mioyo shrugged slowly, but didn't seem affronted, instead spying the Kizingo leaders, and bowing a deep, polite bow warmly to each before sitting with a reghal, patient stance. She was older, but she held presence both of strength, and warmth, and seeing Emera - an old pridemate before the demons earned a noise of surprise. WELL.

"...IOt seems a few of us have found both sides of thius little diplomatic front, then." She smiled, and settled.

Accendo moved to her father's side first, watching uncomfortably as she satto observe. She was no demon, only along to serve as her father's aide, but seeing her sister brought a pained feeling into her chest. She'd not seen any siblings in so long she wasn't sure what to do, merely sit. She'd been left, and she'd dedicated herself to caring for their father when he shattered, and all of this was...

Well now she knew why she was seeing oddities. And Emera was no fool, the lioness knew that. But in place of pushing her father over, she instead coughed a bit, knowing her sister scented them boith, and looked over to her sister.

Primitus caught her look then, sighing a bit as he knew what may be in his daughter's head as slowly, cautiously, he lowered the illusion, nbowing his head toMuhali as a leader greeting another with some caution, before sighing. Well, this was. No, he needed Accendo to do this.

"Pray forgive my interruption -- Emera, if you... Can find itto forgive me, or youmerely seek your sister, I willl do nothing to stop you, dear one.You are welcome, if youwish, to come close."And then he turned a sad gaze to Shanhali.

"Pray forgive my deception. I felt caution best served the situation."
