Tony laughed at him, shaking his head. “I think we’re both going to look like fools for a while, but at least we won’t be alone.” He smiled. It didn’t take long to reach the ice rink. It was a smaller one and only a handful of people were there. It was too early in the season and still a little too warm for people to be in the mood to skate. Leaving Loki by some benches to rent some skates, he came back with two pairs, setting one in Loki’s lap as he sat and began to unlace his shoes and put on the skates, making sure to tell Loki to get his laces tight. When he was done, he stood, wobbling a moment until his balance adjusted and took their shoes to a small rented locker. Coming back, he grinned at Loki. “Ready to try standing and walking?” he asked lightly, holding out a hand for the god.

Tony was impressed Loki didn’t fall as soon as he stood, but he knew that wouldn’t last, couldn’t, magic or not. Reaching out to help balance Loki as soon as he wobbled, Tony moved in front of him. “Lets just try walking in those things first. It’ll help on the ice.” He promised. Very slowly he guided Loki around the area just beside the rink, keeping him from falling and being very patient. When Loki seemed to get it, Tony moved them to the edge of the ice. He left Loki for a minute, moving onto the ice and regaining his balance on it. He was nowhere near as graceful as others, but he didn’t fall and his wobbling was only occasional. Coming back to where Loki was standing, Tony took his hands, instructing him how to balance his wait, trying to show him before he slowly got the god to step out onto the ice, ready to catch him if he had to.

Tony reached out and brought Loki to a stop again when he was satisfied Loki wasn’t going to fall. Hearing the question, Tony considered if Loki was ready for a moment before nodding. Telling him to stay where he was, Tony moved back so he could show Loki what he had to do. “You’re going to skate with one foot first so you don’t push your luck with balance too much.” He smiled. “Lean over your weaker foot, knee bent slightly.” He said, showing Loki what he meant. “And then push off with your other foot, not too hard, just go slow for a bit.” He finished, showing Loki how to move about, and even how to shift his weight enough to stop with one foot. Coming back to his mate, he met his eyes. “You can try if you think you’re ready, but once you start moving, I can’t stay close enough to keep you from falling. I’ll be close to help you up and give you advice, but me holding on would just guarantee you’d fall every time.”

Tony saw the hesitation in Loki’s eyes when told he couldn’t hold on to anything. Sighing, Tony took his hands, squeezing them. “Alright, time to impart some ancient Earth wisdom.” He said lightly. “There was this really smart philosopher, or something along those lines, he was around before you even started visiting Earth I think. He left a lot of really wise sayings and such….they usually sound corny, but they’re true. One of them goes something like ‘Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.’ “ Tony said slowly. “It’s supposed to be about screwing up in life or something I think, but it works here. As long as you don’t make a big deal of messing up and try again, you won’t be thought any less of, in fact, it’s the exact opposite.”
