Laura possesses a form of telepathy that grants her total control over insects and bugs within 3-4 blocks. She can make her subjects do things that they would not normally do, such as walk into fire, produce so much web silk that they physically couldn't produce any more or stinging while injecting little to no venom.
She doesn't require "organized" insects, and once she stops controlling them, her bugs revert to their normal behavior patterns. Laura has an almost limitless ability to focus on multiple insects at once, or to focus on other things while also using her insects. She can give general instructions, in which case she is only vaguely aware of their movements, and guide individual insects through complex tasks, in which case she is more precisely aware of their movements and environment. Her power can sometimes perform actions by habit, such as when she is incapacitated, or is in an altered mental state, without her conscious instruction. Laura sometimes uses bugs to "channel" her emotions, lending her an aura of indomitable calm. Laura can somewhat offload her emotional cues into her bugs and thus appear calmer than she truly is.
The sensory input from her bugs is "fuzzy" and difficult for humans to interpret. She can see and hear clearly due to so much information being thrown at her, but the "signal quality" is unreliable. Based on the combined sensory input of large numbers of insects, Laura can gain a very clear mental picture of everything around her. She can also sense the biology and location of every bug she can control. This gives her enhanced aim and the ability to dodge attacks with supernatural reaction times. However, in environments where bugs are scarce, or when dealing with materials that they don't interact well with, her image of the area can become less reliable.

Laura is blind and deaf, the result of overuse of her powers. She hears and sees the world through her use of her minions.
In areas that have few or no bugs her options are incredibly limited.
She's not strong or tough, in fact she's somewhat frail for a 5'6" teenage girl.
What is their personality like?
She has no trust in organized institutions, and is only operating with one because she feels like it's what needs to be done. She's a natural leader,
but often worries about failure. Laura isn't afraid of doing the ugly things that need to be done, truly believing that the ends justify the means. Those who deal with her, but don't know her personally note her to be cold, distant, exceptionally driven, and ruthless.
What is their backstory?
Laura was initially a shy and awkward teenage girl with a keen interest in deviants. She was "'surviving', for lack of a better word," from the point her mother died, and then surviving from the point she started getting bullied -- she just wanted to get by. She responded to stress with silence and withdrawal. She has shown some insecurity in her femininity, describing her long, dark curly hair as her "only feminine feature". She would always stress over choosing her clothes. This was until she began to use her powers more.
Up until this point, she was afraid of them. Afraid of who they'd make her.
She swore never to use it against the bullies. The people making her life a living hell. One day they got incredibly bold and stuffed her in a locker full of used tampons and pads. Laura snapped. After a few moments of panic, she closed her eyes and reached out with her swarm. Every bug within 2 city blocks converged on the location. They were flayed alive.
Laura opened her eyes, but didn't see with them She saw with the bugs. She had bugs open the locker, tried to step out, but fell on the floor in front of her. She didn't hear the screams of her classmates in her ears. She heard them through the bugs. She struggled to stand up. Her sense of balance all outta whack. Bugs began crawling over her, over her skin, over her clothes, in her hair, and suddenly she could stand just fine. She planted insects on everyone in the building. Kept track of their movements, their positions, their everything.
She used the bugs to find her way out, and disappeared from the world.
