Charlie shook his head, smiling brightly at the other. "Nope! I woke up a little before five," he said, hoping to put him at ease. His eyes travelled down a bit as he moved, turning a bright red as he covered himself. Holy s**t. "Okay!" He said quickly, flustered as he hurried out of the room. He made his home in his seat, waiting for the other as he massaged his face. Of course, that didn't last long when the other came in, dressed like a girl in a wet t-shirt contest. He was too gay for this. "U-um, dinner is served," he said sweetly, gesturing toward his seat. He wondered if the other felt the same when he was in his tiny shorts earlier.

"Thank you so much for making all of this, it looks delicious." He noticed Charlie staring at the shirt, couldn't blame him, it was a ridiculous fit and completely awkward looking. "Yeah, I know, I should have given this shirt to you a while ago. I don't know why it was still in my stuff." At least the shorts were normal, though it showed off the scars on his legs more than he would like. There were even a few that looked particularly grizzly, the most impressive being one went almost all the way around his calf. There were others that the shorts managed to cover. His stomach was audibly grumbling now, and he wasn't really looking forward to waiting much longer. "Shall we dig in, or were you thinking of making a toast?"

Charlie was cheery, smiling proudly at his work. "Only the best for the best," he said sweetly, still eyeing his outfit. He thought of telling the other that he liked how the shirt fit, but he figured that'd be too forward. He wished the other would wear it more often: the way it hugged his muscles made him want to drool. He knew about the scars. Lori had way more than him. Hell, he couldn't even remember where he got the ones he had on his back. One thing he did know though, was that he always wanted to kiss the scars on Lori's skin. To somehow make them better: to make him feel alright. No matter where they were. That thought made his face red again, and he realized he was blushing a lot today. "S-sure. A, uh, toast," he said, holding up his glass. "To another year. May it be better than the last," he said vaguely, clinking his glass with Lori's. He took a drink before digging in, hoping the other would think it was delicious too.

He had actually been kidding about the toast, but whatever, if Charlie felt like doing it, then that was fine. It would distract the kid from whatever he kept blushing about. Like for the millionth time that day. He was starting to pick up on a trend with it, but he kind of hoped he was wrong on the matter. "I can definitely drink to that." It hadn't been a particularly bad year, but any improvement was appreciated. He dug in just as soon as Charlie had, "damn I'm famished," he thought, though it was nothing like after he had healed himself. He didn't even try to establish a conversation until after he was about halfway through the first steak. "It's real good, Charlie. Where did you learn to cook so well? I know it definitely wasn't from me, that would entail boxes and microwaves." He was still trying to remember why he had kept the shirt, and after awhile it finally hit him, "if we ever wanted a bit of extra cash, we could sell this shirt on eBay or something. I was wearing it under my costume during my first big rescue, the one that made me known. I think in the footage you can actually see the collar." He had gotten that "Night of the Stormrider" Iced Earth t-shirt immediately after the show (when the album first came out), had changed into it, and then seen a major rescue going on on his way back home. Back then it was actually possible to duck into a phone booth or something, and he had just thrown his costume on over everything else and gone out and saved fifty some people. The fit wasn't actually too bad for something he had gotten when he was 17.

Charlie stuck a shrimp in his mouth, giggling at the other. "I think it was my...fourth foster home. The Johnsons were really into gender roles and stuff. You know, the husband works all day and the wife cooks and cleans. Mrs. Johnson was...a terrible cook, unfortunately. I had one too many fried spam sandwiches and decided it needed to stop. So I learned to cook. The Johnsons were happy because Mr. Johnson thought his wife was a good cook, and Mrs. Johnson was less stressed out. So it all kinda worked out. And I found out I loved it. I love making people happy with my food," he said sincerely, getting into his baked potato. When the other talked about where the shirt was from, it looked like his eyes had stars in them. "That's so cool!" He said, gasping a bit as he looked it over. It took a second before he bit his lip, fidgeting with his napkin. "Can...can I...have it instead?" He asked, preferring that instead. He'd love it mire than anyone else would.

He couldn't even imagine what a stereotypically gender roled household would be like. No, he could imagine it, he had seen reruns of "Leave it to Beaver", or rather a rerun of it cause the show had sucked and he never watched any more.
"Sure, you can have it. You're probably the only person who would believe the story. Or find any worth in it really." He had heard rumors of at least one fan club dedicated to him, but that had been several years ago, and he doubted they were even still functioning. He wasn't in the limelight nearly as much as he used to be. Not that he resented the shift. It was because more individuals were using their powers to help. He wasn't as big of a deal anymore because there were many more people like him.
"Gender roles, huh? That sounds dreary. I can't imagine the horrors of growing up in such a way. And fried spam all of the time sounds like a nightmare. Maybe once in a while is fine, I know I've done it, but all of the time sounds like a way to die young." He shrugged, "but I am thankful it made you decide to learn to cook. I'm sure a lot of people will benefit from that, I know I have."

Charlie smiled brightly, thinking about wearing it forever. "Yay~ You're the best~!" He said happily, digging in again. He listened to the other talk, shrugging. "I just wonder what happened once I left and suddenly Mrs.Johnson couldn't cook anymore," he said, chuckling to himself. "I'm really happy you like my cooking, Lori. It means the world to me," he said sweetly, finishing off his potato. "I could learn anything you want, you know. I've been thinking about asking your grandma for your favorite recipes," he said, knowing how the hero felt about his grandma. Besides, who cooks better than grandma? "I doubt it'd taste as good, cause no one's better than grandma, but I'd still like to try."

"I imagine she would be happy to teach you. In fact, if you are willing to get your hands dirty, you would be helping her out quite a lot. My grandfather used to make sausage, but once he got kinda old and nearly lost a finger to the machine, he stopped doing it. It isn't particularly dangerous, he was just old and a little senile. Anyway, I'm sure she would appreciate someone operating the machine once more, and if you gave her a few of the ones you made, she would be very grateful." He had almost cleaned up his plate, but he was completely full and still had about a quarter of the potato left. "And I imagine in time you would make everything just as good as she does. She just has several decades more practice, but you have talent and skill." Damn it, he couldn't waste the last little bit. He ate up the last of the potato then stretched back in his chair. "Well, I won't be waking up in the middle of the night now."

Charlie nodded at that, eating his last shrimp. "I don't mind! Plus I've been studying a lot of German, you know. I think I'm fluent enough," he said proudly, of course loving the idea of helping his family out. What's a more intimate relationship than getting along with another's family? "Absolutely! I'll nake her whatever she wants. I'll even make some extra for your mom too! She's so sweet," he added, finishing up his steak now. Then he leaned back with a groan, hand over his stomach. He laughed at Lori. "Yeah, me neither. At least we know we got enough protein," he joked, giving himself a moment to digest. Then he got up, collecting all the plates to wash. "Need anything else Lori?" He asked, washing the dishes in the sink.

"I'm sure they will appreciate it. They both like you a lot. Sometimes I think more than they liked me." He gave a wry smile to that part, he had been loved plenty enough as a kid and they had been good to him. If they showered more affection on Charlie, it was because of more compatible personalities or whatever. He wouldn't begrudge him of that. He hauled himself out of the chair when the other got up and grabbed up the towel to dry dishes as Charlie washed them. He hadn't ever gotten a dishwasher because they cost money they didn't have to spend, and it built work ethic, but hand washing was kind of tedious and he was getting tired of it.
By the time they were done, he had made up his mind. "Care to split a beer?" He had taken up the habit of one beer at night, sort of as an official closing of the evening, just like his mother and uncles and grandparents and probably all of his ancestors. It wasn't excessive, and it wasn't even remotely enough to make him buzzed, it was just like how some people took a glass of wine with dinner and at no other time. He had gotten beers at least once per week from his grandparents starting when he was fifteen. He would have been fine with Charlie starting just as early, but he didn't know what relationship Charlie had with the stuff. It had been common enough for him to see alcohol lying around, so he thought nothing of it, but what if Charlie had had a succession of teetotaling foster families? No need in introducing trouble before it was needed. Still, Charlie was just a few hours from being eighteen. That was damn well old enough.

Charlie was happy the other was helping. He liked doing chores with Lori. It was good time to spend with him, and it got things done quicker. He didn't mind washing dishes. He didn't mind chores at all. Honestly, he was absolutely housewife material. He looked over whenthe other offered him a beer and laughed, flustered. "I'm an adult tomorrow, not of drinking age," he said, laughing a bit. However, splitting a drink with him made him flustered. "But I mean...I've never had alcohol before." It was true, he was a really good kid.
He never got into anything if there was a slight possibility of him getting into trouble or disappointing his guardian/Lori. "I guess I can...try it...." he said, finishing up the last pan he cooked with, handing it to Lori.

"You don't have to if you don't want to. I was just offering." Maybe that was partially why his family liked Charlie so much, he was probably the first decidedly good and innocent one of them. "Don't worry, you won't get in trouble. That would be hypocritical of me, I started when I was fifteen." That might reassure him. It didn't matter too much to him whether or not Charlie accepted, though he did worry about what would happen when Charlie was out on his own. What would happen if Charlie had friends who invited him out drinking (apparently once he was at least 21), and Charlie was pressured into it. Without any prior experience, Charlie wouldn't know his limits. And what if those friends weren't true friends and they didn't keep an eye on him. Charlie could die of alcohol poisoning and it would be all his fault because he never prepared him.

Charlie thought about it for a moment, drying off his hands. Well, Lori did offer. Also, it had to be good, right? Lori wouldn't have one every night if it wasn't. Finally, he gave a smile, nodding. "Okay, sure! Why not?" Besides, something had to be good about alcohol right? Kids were always getting in trouble for it, adults were always drinking it, and everyone seemed to think there couldn't be a party or get together without booze of some sort.
That kind of atmosphere really made Charlie uncomfortable. He was very charming and liked people, but he was introverted. Big get togethers or parties weren't his cup of tea. He got anxious in a crowd, and preferred to stay at home or doing very minimal errands. He didn't like peer pressure either. He was very prone to crumble under it, so he preferred to surround himself with people like Lori.

"It can be an acquired taste, but I would rather you acquire it here where it won't come back to haunt you than at some party or someone's basement." He didn't bother going over the rest, no need to scare the kid. He took out a glass then inspected what types of beer were available. He picked up one that was a light summer beer, not particularly strong and went down pretty easy. Not his favorite, but it was a good starter. He poured about half into the glass, tilting the glass so that the beer went in gently and didn't fizz up into too much head. He gave the glass to Charlie and kept the bottle for himself. "Cheers," he said and gently clinked bottle to glass. He took a long swig of his, but for him this wasn't much more than water. He waited until the other had had some, "what do you think? Am I going to have to start worrying about you coming home drunk, or is this your last one?" He smiled wryly, but if the other said he loved the stuff, there would have to be some rules and some limits found.

Charlie gave a small laugh, looking up at the other with a raised brow. "Ah, yes, because I'm such a party animal," he joked, laughing again. He took the glass in his hand, inspecting the liquid inside. He's seen beer before, of course, but it never really looked appetizing. He wondered if it was like soda. that's what the fizz was at the top, right? He liked soda. "Cheers!" He gave the other a clink back, smiling lightly as he took it to his nose, smile falling a bit. Oh. That does not smell good. However, he went ahead and took a brave drink. He gave a small cringe as he drank it down, smiling afterwards with a chuckle. "Oh...oh, that is...not good," he said, chuckling again. It tasted awful. It was kind of like dirty water that stung his throat, and he didn't like it at all. He couldn't believe Lori drank this every night. It took another sip, now that he knew what to expect. Nope. Still nope. "This is not good at all, Lori," he added, handing him back his glass. "Sorry, that's not really my thing." That wouldn't happen again.
