Rook, Rookie (teasingly), Harry

33

What is their gender?
Male

What is their sexual orientation?
Straight

Are they human or deviant?
Deviant

What are their powers/abilities?
Barrier Manipulation - Harry can, in some sort of sense, can create an "invisible force field" to protect himself and anyone he wishes, as if he was materializing something invisible out of thin air. He can "shape" it into anything he can imagine, though Harry has yet to know the extents of his powers. However, he's not willing to risk it unless it is a dire situation. He does know that not only he can create a barrier around himself, but he create as long as it is within his line of sight but he cannot create one if it was too far away. He can also make the barrier to push in any direction, and can push anything that makes sense with his strength and willpower. He also uses this ability in a sense of utility, such as making "stairs" as if he was skywalking and sometimes, he can use it as some sort of "umbrella".

Do they have any notable weaknesses?
* If there is an opposing force attacking his barrier, it becomes a battle of a tug-of-war. Harry obviously cannot hold his barriers for too long and the more his barrier gets opposed by brute force, the more energy and willpower he has to use to maintain it. Once he no longer has the energy to make his barrier withstanding it will break the barrier and worst case scenario, it might leave him with fatigue.

* He more separate barriers he create, the weaker they are due to the lack of full focus. Thus, he prefers making one whole barrier at a time.

* To protect something/someone with his ability, he has to be in his line of sight. Best solution is to separate him from his teammate to create an opening.

* His barriers are still tangible, so far the one of the good ways to expose it was probably pour flour on it. (Or maybe human organs... if you're that violent...)

What is their personality like?
* Resilient - Harry is this in a sense that no matter how jaded he could sometimes be, Harry still springs back in action for his strong-will. He doesn't know when to quit and sometimes he would get into trouble in the process. Some people might see this as determination, but he could also be occasionally be as stubborn as a rubber ball. In other words, Harry still persist in a way that it was hard for him to just shatter, but no doubt he is still no stranger to things like stress and fear.

* Gentle - Harry is mild, caring, and gentle in mundane times, thus not finding it hard to befriend people. It was rare for Harry to raise his voice angrily at someone, though if he does get exasperated you will be met with a grumbling look of disapproval. He is more or less the person you would count on if you are in need of talking to someone. This, however, makes him underestimated too often for this trait- and Harry is secretly exasperated about it.

* Adaptable - Harry is good at adjusting. While he was never a pushover and has his stubborn moments, Harry was the type to always move forward. He is adaptable in a sense that he can be a bit resourceful with the current situation. Depending on the situation, you can count on him adjusting some aspects of his personality to gain an upper hand. This goes hand-to-hand with his crafty nature, that Harry would use the current sour situation to his advantage- with the intention of making it to benefit him and the others.

* Cunning - He is not maliciously sly, but regardless Harry has a strategy of working smart. He is the type to not budge, in a way that Harry would try find a way to make a unfavorable scenario be favorable for him and others. He believes that merely relying on brute strength doesn't always work. And thus, he doesn't like people who rely too much on their abilities instead of trying to be resourceful.

* Jaded - Despite his gentleness, Harry isn't a cheerful person. While he was never grouchy, he still expects the down-sides and was well-aware of what it means to just exist as a deviant. It is hard for Harry to see the best in every person and thus doesn't always root for good news. He always wonder what's next, and thus he makes sure to prepare himself for whatever will come.

* Protective - And boy, does it fit his abilities so well. For him he has two main concerns: his family and his adopted daughter. He may fight for Providence but he's not a patriot about it. He joins because he wants to protect and prevent other deviants from having a terrible future. And if his loved ones were threatened, there was a switch that would allow Harry to take a mile if it means getting them out from harm.

What is their backstory?

Haroldo Julian Saavedra, known as Harry to his friends, was born in the actually rough state of Texas where the war between Providence and Dominion always take place. As a child, his parents were quick to realize that he was not normal, only that they kept themselves quiet. Harry, however, remembered his powers surfacing when he was seven- walking in the forest park with his father Julio. Harry inadvertently saved him from being attacked by a dangerous snake. It was about to bite the man when his son cried in fear, only to see that the snake seemed like it was headbutting against an semi-invisible wall around Julio and Harry. The child should have been glad that he saved his own father from a dangerous species, but instead, it made Harry feel afraid of himself after finding out by himself that it was his doing. While they didn't talk about it afterwards, Harry didn't know that Julio was secretly relieved and thankful.

But that was blinded by Harry's fear of being rejected, especially when everyone seemed to want people like him dead, until the age of 13. Harry had been spending so many years suppressing his powers and could no longer take it that he ran away from his house- thinking that it's more the best that he himself falls out of the family picture. Even if he was literally putting his life on the line. The runaway lasted for a week when Harry was attacked by what seemed to be a bad guy who hunts deviants, especially when Harry still slipped his powers due to lack of control. He was attacked and nearly taken away from his neighborhood until some people from Providence arrived and saved him from getting kidnapped and suffering the God-knows-what's. When he woke up in the hospital, he was met by his family being distressed and relieved to see their son alive. It ended up with Harry confessing to them in disbelief until they reassured him that they won't shun him for what he was, especially the fact that Harry did save his father's life.

After they more or less reconcile, the Saavedras see it fit to move away from Texas and to Washington DC. Harry's family were introduced to the Providence, who told them that they can help Harry understand and learn his powers without fear of danger. While his parents supposed that it's worth a shot, Harry only reluctantly agreed. After all, he was nearly kidnapped so he wouldn't be surprised if the Providence turned out to be doing the same thing. Eventually, it proved that they really were trying to help him understand his abilities and it helped Harry feel at ease for himself. The people who helped him didn't do anything to make him feel trapped, and they still see him as a person in Providence.

As he grew up, Harry's abilities were now in control that he didn't feel the need to be overly self-conscious whether his abilities go on accident In fact, he grew more confident with this part of himself. Harry also reflected the time when he nearly got kidnapped, especially when he met a orphan girl named Rhiannon. She was rescued from the band of criminals who used her abilities for... ahem, whatever underground crime activities they were doing. At first, Harry felt awkward about how Rhiannon was intent on clinging onto him- probably due to his gentle nature. Eventually, he warmed up and a year later- Harry decided to adopt her.

Because of her, Harry's resolved in consideration of joining the Providence has strengthened and he did exactly just that. He now works with Providence under the call-sign Rook (due to his love of chess), protecting his teammates as well as pushing his enemies away with his strong will.
