Burgundy paws landed softly in warm, white sand as Hana jumped down the last stretch of the cliffs that watched over her home. She turned back to ensure that the hunting party didn't need help carrying their kills down the escarpment, then padded off with a brief farewell as the last lion reached the beach. With the strange happenings going on recently - weird and often catastrophic weather, hearing things, seeing things - Hana had taken to accompanying the hunting parties when they went out, sometimes at their request and sometimes just to make herself feel better. Nothing had happened yet but she couldn't help feeling on edge that it might and she wouldn't be there.
Besides, it kept her busy, and busy was just what she needed. It had been several seasons since Hana had decided that she wanted a family. Prior to that, she had resolutely been against having a mate or cubs or anything of the sort, focused entirely on her job. Since then, she had had only a couple of - failed - relationships, including being stood up on the first date and being all but told that she was expected to step down from being a watcher because it was too dangerous. Men were unreliable and relationships meant drama, but damn did she want cubs.
Padding through the pride in the direction of the ocean, Hana spotted a familiar but not familial pelt. Being that Hana always at least introduced herself to the rogues that the pride welcomed as guests - most were friendly and non-threatening, but it only took one evil-minded creature to put people in danger, and Hana would not allow that - she recognized this particular navy pelt. Welcoming the distraction, Hana trotted over with a smile.
"VeturliĆ°i! Welcome back."

"As are you, friend," Hana returned, lightly bouncing her rump against Vetur's. "What brings you back our way?"
Hana was more than happy to have Vetur back in Kizi lands, for however long he decided to stay this time. She had always gotten along with the dark male and would forever enjoy the wanderer's stories. He was very likely the only male that hadn't let her down in their personal relationship, not including her direct family of course.
To be fair, he was also one of two males that weren't her direct family that she had a personal relationship with. Aside from Marzel and Vetur, all of her male "friends" were little more than amiable pridemates. Take her fellow watchers for example. Sure, they got along great, but she didn't spend time with them outside of duty. But Vetur she could spend all day with.

Hana chuckled heartily. "Well, we have as much of that as you desire. And we're happy to provide." She winked playfully, then turned to regard Vetur curiously as he rummaged around in his pouch. As he extended the charm toward her, her eyes widened with delighted surprise.
"Oh, Vetur! You shouldn't have!" she almost squealed with glee as she reached out to gently nose the bauble. It was beautiful. The feather came from a harrier hawk, grey dipped in black with a neat white tip. The fibres, whatever they were made from, were dyed a brilliant deep turquoise. And that gem. Gods, that gem was gorgeous, the way it twinkled like a rainbow when it moved. "It's absolutely stunning."
She was almost speechless as she bowed her head to let Vetur tuck the feather behind her ear. She would need to get one of the avians or small primates that sometimes helped the crafters to actually braid it into her mane later, but for now, it would be secure enough just tucked in well.
AstoriaFallen That is just perfect! I can't wait to get that edited on to her.

She was so touched by the gesture, and so taken by the beauty of the gift, that she honestly had nothing to say in response. Hana simply smiled back at Vetur and blinked slowly, a quiet purr rumbling in her chest.
At her friend's question, Hana couldn't help but laugh, a quick huff of air that held more scorn than mirth. Things had been more than a little chaotic around the Kizingo'Zaa lately - and a large part of it could have been easily avoided in her opinion.
"More messy than interesting, I think," she started, trying to summarize the recent events while also keeping at least some of the contempt from colouring her tone. "The peace we had with our neighbours, the Bahari'mtoto, has dissolved into open hostility since you were last here due to some carelessness that led to a "brew" that our pride should have never created in the first place finding its way into their lands. Then a giant fissure opened up and tore a physical boundary line between our prides' lands. Not to mention all the strange goings-on that seem to be happening throughout all the lands..."
Hana trailed off with a sigh. Needless to say, she had been fairly busy as of late. Not that she minded being busy, but it was all so unnecessary, and she just wished things hadn't come to this with the Bahari. She'd always been against that damned brew.
"What stories do you bring from the outside?" she queried lightly, hoping Vetur would have more of his delightful stories to brighten the mood.

Hana's eyes widened and her ear twitched with surprise. Vibrant pelt colours, she was used to. All one with nature, of course. But living in the trees? Sure, she occasionally spent some time up in the branches, usually when she was napping or didn't want to be disturbed. And, yes, as a cub, she had certainly played among the boughs - high-climbing competitions, balancing acts and the like. But she couldn't imagine living up there permanently. They weren't monkeys!
"They live in the trees? Like, all the time? They must be a lot smaller than our lot." In truth, the Kizi lions were larger and bulkier than average, and that might have contributed to her inability to see most of her pridemates being able to successfully abide in the treetops, but even your everyday lion didn't seem to be interested in canopy life. "How do they hunt? What do they even hunt?"
Hana took a cue from Vetur and settled down in the warm sand, relaxed and ready to hear all about this strange pride.
