Selich caught himself surreptitiously looking around for a wooden object on which to knock after Hanna mentioned the maze, stopping himself when he realized what he was doing. Scoffing internally at the silly superstitious thought, he instead leaned in to whisper aloud to the angel, "Mebbe we keep the masks on fer some extra spice." Mostly joking, Selich chuckled as he turned to walk Hanna inside.
The moment they entered the masquerade proper, their hands were stamped with their reservation number by a masked attendent and then they were immediately plied with beverages and encouraged to hit the dance floor by more masked pae circulating through the crowds.
Selich still didn't even remotely trust anything Venus Day related, especially drinks, but the rest of the stay had been so pleasant that he threw caution to the wind, downed his drink, and danced himself and Hanna into the party which continued to be great and not at all harrowing or mentally scarring. Just kidding~ Whatever magic kept the resort lit and warm was gone, prompting Selich to pull Hanna close and think warm thoughts.
For just a moment, all the partygoers sat in shocked silence then frantic cries for friends and loved ones rang out followed by gasps of surprise. Suddenly, the room was dimly lit by glowing pae and a small fire at the buffet tables. Before he could even begin to process any of it....

Beltan probably enjoyed the bold, almost aggressive, eye-contact a little too much, but he really couldn't be blamed for it. Quite nice to know that Xo took a stance of "whatever happens, happens." Maintaining her gaze, Beltan guided the glass to his own lips and flashed her a wink before he tipped the bottom half of the contents into his mouth and then set the emptied glass on one of the many cherub-borne trays floating around.
By that point, the masquerade-turned-rave was already in full swing and Beltan could barely hear himself think, let alone try to converse with his date. Instead, he actually danced. Lucky for him the repetitive beat was easy to move to so he didn't embarrass himself.
Then the lights went out.
'There it is,' Beltan thought with a sigh. 'Wouldn't be VDay otherwise.' Pulling Xoana in close, he did his best to shelter her from any falling debris and settling snow. At a touch out of the pitch black, he looked up trying to force his eyes to pierce the darkness, but ended up having to close his eyes when a mark on his hand briefly flared then faded. A wave of dizzyness overtook him as his perspective rapidly shifted. At first he thought he was in the middle of fainting, but what he was actually doing was shrinking. Before he knew it, a pint-sized feesh was left clinging tightly to Xoana's hand while some fresh hell announced itself with an earsplitting screech.
Pleased with how little actual convincing he'd had to do to get the pretty orange faun boy out onto the dancefloor, Taric gently pulled Sunshine (he hadn't asked for names and didn't really feel the need to change that) along behind him.
Settling on a relatively free space, the satyr proceeded to showcase the moves in his repertoire that were most illustrative of his prowess for a, uh, different kind of dancing. At least until the lights cut out and his dance partner no longer had the pleasure of looking upon him. Busting out a glowstick like his brethren, Taric was a little surprised, though not disappointed, to find that the brightly-hued faun had no rune.
Sidling up close to Mena, he looped an arm around the faun's shoulders and turned him toward the other satyrs and maenads that had resumed partying. "Cold is something that concerns you-" he only just barely stopped himself from saying your kind, "Right? You know, movement keeps the blood flowing and creates body heat." He really wished that his wildly wiggling eyebrows weren't wasted under the mask and in such low-lighting. So you should just keep dancing with me." For that last sentence, Taric's voice subtley changed, managing to be both commanding and oddly reassuring.
Menelie Feesh is experiencing some shrinkage, possibly related to the cold~ And Menahem seems to think it's a good idea to stick with Taric and put their heads together on how to stay warm ;3

Silini had been having a great time on the dance floor, fluttering from partner to partner, never staying with anyone too long. And when the new folks had arrived? Perfection. Silini really got moving then! But, like everyone else, their fun was cut short when the power had gone out. "Damn," muttered Silini.
And then, they found themself glowing. Just, emitting a soft light the same color as their skin and wings, which was actually helpful, since their pale skin made for a bright light. Their head whipped in all directions at the gasps and cries of the other guests, and then the screeching overhead. They decided to check it out.
Silini took their glowing body and flew up toward the ballroom's ceiling to see if they could get an idea of what was happening up here. They flitted back and forth, systematically, to look for signs of entry, or cracking, or....anything, really.

When the lights went out, Kadri drew Laoise close. The water felt like it was protective, as it didn't get so cold so suddenly. "Don't worry, I got you," he said, giving her a little squeeze. He looked around for something, anything, to do which would help them out. But it was hard when they couldn't really get out of the water.
Suddenly his perspective changed. Like, a lot. He was...shrinking? Abruptly he was small enough that Laoise could hold him in her arms. "What." Said Kadri flatly. Well, this wasn't a great development. How could he protect his new friend at this size?
Kadri was feeling distinctly like a youth at this moment. "I think we need an adult," he said grumpily, looking around for Quetzal. Did he sort of want his parents? Yes. Did he want his parents to know he was here? Hell no.

Xoana, too, had been enjoying the lights and sounds of the new style of party, and she was especially enjoying seeing Beltan cut loose a little bit. She found she couldn't keep her hands off him, and danced quite close into him as the beat intensified.
"Ugh, barnacles," she groaned as the lights went out, although she did enjoy Beltan's instinct to pull her close and protect her. Bless him; once a guard, always a guard, even when he's on vacation. Xoana glanced over toward the large boxes where the sound had been coming from. She wondered briefly if they'd simply been overloaded when the cherub burst in with news of an avalanche. She looked up toward the ceiling. So they were trapped then?
Her attention was jolted to her hand, when the rune marking suddenly glowed, and then to Beltan, who was becoming smaller. "Beltan??" she said, just a tiny bit of panic in her voice. She held his hands tightly, afraid he'd disappear altogether. When he stopped, however, she breathed a little easier. "What happened to you?" she asked, touching his face and unintentionally sending a little shock to him. She jumped and looked at her hands. "What the f--"
The thought was interrupted by the screeching from above, which prompted her to grab Beltan and pull him into herself protectively. "The hell was that?" she demanded of no one in particular. She looked back at Beltan. "Okay, how do we get out of here?"

Rosamin freaked out a bit, taking a deep breath and was being pressed against this magnificant purple male harpy. Her senses were going into overdrive, that was for sure. Between a lusting for this male harpy and the fact the ballroom went dark and the cold was coming in, it could've been worse. "Glow? No. Never! If I were glowing before this, I would be fine!" the female harpy said, frowning as she looked around, raising her eyebrows at the glowings going on around her. They were in various colors, ranging from pink, blue, to green, and was that yellow? Right now, Zhong was purple, but that wasn't immediate like hers was. "How come you not freaking out?"
Mossy was glowing a magnficient color herself, but she looked to Zhong and gave a shrug, holding her hands up as if to say 'not really no.' She then jumped when the 'SCREEEE' sound came out of nowhere, from above. Her eyebrows went up in puzzlement.

Laoise squeaked at the darkness ensuing in the rooms. While the massive cold that is seeping in has not reached the tanks yet, rendering them frozen, the Seera looked at Kadri when he drew her close to him, sharing his body heat. Her face blushed a softer green color against the black. The soft notes of music still vibrated throughout the room, making the situation... well the avalanche a moment ago a creepy one. "Oh? You do," she mumbled, but Kadri was shrinking and as he was shrinking her eyebrows went up, the whites of her eyes were visibly seen. "Kadri?! Kadri!!" the Seera squeaked, moving up to the surface of the waters with the now-tiny Kadri. "What happened?!"

 A good dancer, he could live with that he thought with a grin. Then it happened the room went dark, and suddenly he felt a log colder then before. Vash pulled her closer with the arm he had around her waist. "Worry not, I shall protect you", not that he knew how to protect her from an avalanche, but hey it sounded good... right?

Skylie had been mingling without any particular pae in target until the room grew darker then she had ever experienced in her life. "Heyyy?? Who turned the lights out??" she calls out loudly from not too far away from the food tables. She didn't even realize at this point that she was beginning to glow. But it was just enough combined with the other pae's light to see around her, though not to any degree of detail.
Linwilen looked left and right, what on the island was going on? He too felt the cold and heard the noise above. He didnt even notice the static her stomping had created, instead he began rubbing his hands together to warm them up, he reached over to Tanz to motion that maybe they should move to safety not realizing his touch to tap her shoulder was likely to send a shock from his finger tips to Tanz

Menahem was finally beginning to appreciate what Rho meant by "getting some tail". He felt so free, dancing with the handsome stranger. There were no bothersome emotions for him to overanalyze. It was as if everything had faded away, except for the two of them.
And then the lights cut out. From somewhere in the dark, he heard Rho call out for him. "I'm okay!" he called back. In the back of his mind, Mena thought he should probably bid his partner farewell and join Rho and Tirzah, but he just....couldn't seem to tear himself away. He was somehow even more mesmerizing in the soft glow of those shining sticks he and his companions had pulled out. The suggestive tone of his voice and that logic Menahem just couldn't find fault with...he practically melted into him. "It's also important to stay close to one another," Menahem quipped. Then, with a little cough, added, "For warmth, of course."
Like, he was pretty sure they were on the same page, here, but Menahem certainly wasn't used to being so forward. Or with being the pursued.

 Arc gasped softly as he watched Lyn begin to glow. He looked magnificent. "So are you," he murmured, his face heating as he processes what Lyn had said. Did he mean it? Was it just because he was glowing? Oh, who cared? Lyn thought he was gorgeous! Suddenly, he couldn't take it anymore and ignoring the words that were spilling from Lyn's lips next, Arc planted a kiss on his best friend's lips.

 Noelani giggled. Vash would protect her! She trusted that he would, too. She had definitely had one too many of those adult beverages. Haukea didn't keep liquor in the house so Noelani had never had much reason or inclination to try drinking it before now. Noelani slid her arms around the blond Pae and leaned into him. "I definitely need protecting," she mumbled. "Did you hear that? Was that the building making that noise?" A shudder ran down her back. She hoped not. She thought she would have fun here, and see a goddess, but Venus hadn't even made an appearance yet. Had she known about the avalanche? Did she set them all up to be lost in the snow? b***h.
 Kai jerked a bit when she shocked him. "I don't think electricity is from me, my dear," he said and smiled. "Maybe it's just a spark between us." He smirked and moved a little closer. He'd never seen a harpy with wings like hers. They were fascinating. "You're Gwyneira, right?" He was pretty sure that's what she'd told him when they met before. That awful rave music stopped and Kai felt his shoulders relaxing. The cherubs were still playing their music, and it wasn't amazing but it was still better than all that thumping bass. "Do you think we should try to find a way out of here?"

 Zhong shrugged at her question. "I haven't seen anything to freak out over. Yes, it's weird that the pair of you are glowing, but maybe it's something you ate?" It was a thin explanation but maybe it would help her calm down. "Looks like other Pae are setting s**t on fire," he said with an arched brow. The sudden screeching of the building assaulted his ears and okay, maybe now he was starting to freak out. "Uhh, that didn't sound good," he mumbled.

 Ea smiled softly. Toby was so thoughtful and kind. "I'm sure we'll figure something out. Or maybe someone will come to help." Pae knew they were up there, right? Surely someone would send workers or something to come dig them out, there was no way they missed the avalanche... Right? She chewed her lip and kept her hands to herself so she wouldn't shock Toby again.
