OK, it's certainly been a long week so far.
My mom called me at home Saturday afternoon and said there had been a car accident. My dad was seriously hurt, the two people in the back seat were dead (my parents' best friends...they were like grandparents to me), and the driver had some broken bones.
My dad had broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a ruptured spleen, and a lacerated liver. He was taken to ICU and into surgery...and it was very doubtful that he would survive. He did though...despite his loss of blood and my parents' religious belief against blood transfusions (which I do not approve of...but there's nothing I can do). They removed his spleen, patched up his liver, set his ribs, and inflated his lung. He can't breathe by himself yet because of the pain in his chest and the swelling, so he's on a respirator. He's sleeping most of the time but when he wakes up he knows what's going on around him. I saw him try to get out of bed today, poor guy. sad
I'm staying in Boise with my mom until the end of the week. We haven't told him yet about his friends dying. He wanted to know how they were, and Mom just told him that they're safe. She'll break the news to him later when he's more healed.
He's got a long recovery ahead of him! But he's fought for his life so hard, and i'm so proud of him. He fought suicidal feelings for much of my childhood, so it does me good to see him fighting so hard for his life. What an awesome guy. The hospital is amazed by his progress. They call him the Miracle Man. 3nodding That's my dad. heart
