Followed by the events of Kakashi Gaiden and *spoiler alert* Rin Nohara's death. Kakashi Hatake was appointed to an Anbu Black Ops at the request of the 4th Hokage, Minato Namikaze. Shortly followed after Minato's death during the events of the Kyuubi incident Kakashi has continued his Black-Op missions making a name for himself as the Copy Ninja, Kakashi Hatake.
