• Artist Info: There once was a girl named Midge. She was not delicate and pretty like other girls, hers was a path of tomboyishness and tomfoolery. Baggy clothes, dirt-smudged cheeks, and chunky, matted hair framed her form. Frogs, lizards, snakes, and bugs made her eyes sparkle. Tree climbing calloused her hands and made her smile.

But one day, Midge fell ill. She could not play as hard as she used to, and spent many an afternoon surrounded by plainly-painted walls. All was dullness and drudgery, until the day a basket filled with paper, pen, and markers was left in the room. Little by little, another world was built from hastily scrawled words and crudely drawn figures.

Midge eventually overcame the sickness, and returned to the dirt and trees that had so patiently waited. The other world was all but forgotten, confined to the watercolor haze of dreams. But the other world was patient, and waited for its creator to return. And in times of illness, stress, and strife, Midge did return.

Over the years the world became a place filled with wispy daydreams and carefully crafted concepts. The beautiful sat beside the hideous, the hopefull danced alongside the hopeless. It was a patchwork quilt of musings, hopes, and chicanery.

Midge gave life to this hodge podge world, and in return, this world gave comfort to her. Ultimately, she needed this world as much as the world needed her.

And they lived. Not always happy, not always sad... but they lived as one, and were content.
