• I hope that she remembers me…even though we just met yesterday at the river. That’s because I did…I remembered when I was dumped by the one I loved for almost a year, I threw the key to my heart in the river, and then she jumped into the river to get the key. I can also tell that she couldn’t swim that well since she drowned and I had to jump in to rescue her. After I saved her life, we just lied there on the grass and asked each other why I threw away the key, why I saved her, and why she saved the key. I told her why and she helped me find a way to forget about my ex-girlfriend. There’s also the time where I thought that her eyes were beautiful, we (sort of) flirted with each other, and before she left, she gave me a peck on the cheeks. I swear that was cutest thing she’s ever done…so far.

Anyways, it’s already the next day and it’s around 4:45 PM. I was actually excited to get to see her again…until I checked the weather when I stepped outside of the house. The place started pouring like mad and I saw only around ten people walking around under the umbrella. She had to pick a day where it was pouring like Niagara Falls and I never get the chance to get her email address or her phone number.

Well, it was already too late and I promised her that I would meet her by the bridge again. After stealing an umbrella and telling my mom that I was going out for a while, I walked outside of my house and head straight for the bridge.

As I can hear the pounding of the rain hitting the umbrella, I can feel the beating of my heart hitting against my chest. I walked faster and faster, I didn’t even realize that I was ended up running. My legs shook as I took every step on the sidewalk and my heart kept telling me to go faster…but why?

Once I reached the bridge, I looked around and saw no one there. But when I looked over the rail and towards the grass where her and I met, I saw her kneeling down and reaching for something…or someone…

I leaned over the rail and squinted my eyes as I can see her reaching her hand out towards a little boy. The boy is holding onto the ground for his life and half of his body is in the rushing water. She leaned forward more as she reached for the boy and shouted, “Take my hand! Quick!”

The boy reached back and shouted back, “I…I can’t!”

His hand slipped on the mud as he flew back, but she flinched forward and grabbed his wrist. I was holding my breath the whole time as I exhaled and leaned against the rail, feeling my muscles relax. That was close.

She pulled the boy back and pulled him onto the grass. The two lied down and the girl asked, “Are you all right?”

The boy nodded back and fell asleep. She sighed as she smiled and stood back up. When I saw her leaning back and her left foot flew forward, I held my breath again and let out a scream. She fell into the water and I saw her body flow away with the river.

My body reacted when I dropped my umbrella and I dived into the water. I felt the huge wave pushing me down into the water and trying to drown me. But I opened my eyes as I started swimming underwater and swam as fast as I can. I swam up for air and started shouting for her name.

I can hear a scream as I can see her hanging onto a giant rock for her life. I called out her name again as she looked straight at me and called my name back with a smile. I swam towards her as I held a hand towards her and she grabbed mine. She pulled me towards the boulder and we both held onto the edges as tight as we can. I stared back at her and asked, “Are you all right?”

She smiled back and said, “Yeah, I am…but what are you doing down here?”

I smiled back and said, “To save you, of course.” I looked around and said, “Okay, just give me a second to see what I can…”

Before I can say anything else, I felt something fast flew by me, but hit her next to me. I turned back around and saw that a car door (don’t ask how that got there) floating away with her falling back into the water. I shouted her name as I dived back into the water and swam after her.

I swam as hard as I could, I’m trying not to get dragged away by the currents like a rag doll…unlike what she’s going through. I have to swim faster, I have to rescue her, and no matter what I just hope that she doesn’t reach the end of the river. I’m serious, there is a huge fall at the end of the river and I have to reach her before we both fall to our deaths.

As hard as I could, I kicked faster. As fast as I could, I pushed myself forward. When I pushed my head up, I can see her an arm length away. I reached out and grabbed her arm. Pulling her close, I held her tight and I said, “Hang on, we’re going to make it.”

I couldn’t tell if she was awake or not, cause she didn’t say anything to me. But I have to worry about this later, I have to find a way to get back on land. Why? Because about a couple of feet away, we’re nearly at the end of the river where the fall awaits for us.

I held her close to me, kept her head up and above the water, and tried to find a way to get out of the river. Looking around desperately, I found a tree with a branch hanging over us. I think it’s low enough for me to grab it and pull us off of the river. I started kicking my feet as we came closer and closer to the branch. Then, keeping her head above the water, I pushed myself up and grabbed the branch. I sighed in relief that I was able to grab it in time. Then I gathered the rest of my strength to pull myself towards the tree and onto the grass.

Once I was able to land my feet onto the soft ground, I laid her on the ground and I collapsed right next to her. My head felt like it’s still in a tornado and I shut my eyes since I can see the whole world spinning in front of me. I took calm deep breaths as I tried to calm my heart down and said to myself, “******** was close.”

I heard a moan as I opened my eyes again and turned my head towards her. I can see her lean to the side and started coughing. I kneeled up as I crawled closer to her and hold her by the arm. “Hey…are you okay?”

She coughed a little more until she turned back around and smiled up at me. “Yeah…I’m okay. Thanks for saving me.”

I smiled back as I lifted her head up and placed it on my lap. “Of course…well, we’re even.”

She stared back up at me confused and asked, “We are? How?”

I looked down her neck to see my key hanging around her neck. I grabbed it and held up saying. “Well, for once, I found the true bearer to hold this key to my heart. You helped me find a reason to…I don’t know, I guess believe that I can love someone again.”

After I trailed off, we just stared at each other for a while. She just blinked at me and said, “Dude, that could be a poem.”

I gave her a serious look and said, “Hey, I’m trying to be serious here!”

She started giggling and waved her hand at me. “Okay, okay, I get it. We’re even.” She giggled some more and said, “But that sounded SO cute!”

Then the giggle turned into a laugh as I felt myself smiling. She finally stopped as I pulled a hair away from her face and asked, “Are you sure you’re okay?” I looked away and said, “You know…from the river…”

I felt a cold hand run down my cheek as I looked down and saw her smiling at me again. “Of course, I have you.”

I felt my cold face heat up…also I could feel her hand warming up, too. She giggled again as I smiled, too, and chuckled a bit. I leaned down and whispered to her, “That was cute.”

I stared at her chocolate brown eyes as she stared back at me. I looked down at her cheeks and found that they turned red. I smiled as I lowered my eyes more and found her lips. I look back up at her eyes and found her eyes are staring at my lips, too. We both found each other staring back at each other in the eyes. I’m not sure why, but I also found myself lowering my face towards her…leaning closer and closer…

    “There they are!!”

That shout made me jerk my head back as I looked up and saw the little boy she saved with his father. The man walked towards me and asked, “Are you two all right?”

I looked down at her and found her sleeping. I chuckled as I looked back up at him and said, “Yeah, we’re okay. Thanks.”
