• “Fire!” Artemis exclaimed. We obeyed. Shooting silver arrows at each monster, we drew arrow after arrow wounding and killing most of the oncoming prey. Still hidden in the woods, all the enemies could here was our voices because battle cries clouded the air. I looked toward Elaina, my best friend, and she nodded. We both dropped down to the ground and crawled to the edge of the trees and bushes. Silently, we shot down monsters of all sorts, and other half bloods worthy of our arrows. Suddenly Elaina winced. “I need to get back to camp,” she whispered. “You can’t! You’re one of the best here!” I said, opening my eyes wide. “I won’t be able to help with a pierced arm,” she said. She crawled away toward Lady Artemis, leaving me alone. I took a deep breath and began shooting arrows again. Suddenly I heard battle cries coming from behind me. Lady Artemis shouted, “Behind us!” And I could hear the rustle of everyone turning around from the treetops and the ground. I couldn’t see anything or hear a sound. It was like the whole world was closing in on me and the darkness was taking over. Suddenly I saw dark shapes running around silently through the trees and plants. One was standing still and I shot an arrow at it with precise aim. “Forward! It’s time for a stirring!” I heard a commander like voice yell. I jumped up and pulled my bow and arrow at the ready. I heard battle cries as the enemy charged from both sides. The front army was holding the intruders outside of the forest back, but a few monsters escaped from combat and ran towards us. I shot arrows at both sides of me and shot down a few of the prey, but many escaped and ran towards the nearest huntress and me. I heard a shriek as another maiden was shot down from a nearby pine. For the second time there was no sound. There were no monsters in sight, no half bloods turned against their own kind, no ancient Fates pointing their spear like talons at any targets. All was silent. They had been called off! Artemis began walking slowly through the woods, comrades following her. “The war is over for now,” she said quietly, though everyone could hear her, “They need to regenerate their armies for a larger battle.” “Then we must rest and regenerate too! We must be ready!” A half blood shouted. “It won’t be so simple,” Artemis said calmly, “There are many that are wounded and killed. We must first strengthen our borders, find every whole that they may get in through!” Another Camp Half-Blood camper argued, “But that could take months!” “Do you know how many monsters and half-bloods we wounded and killed? Hundreds, maybe even thousands. Their army may be strong, but together we’re stronger! It would take months for them to get back what they lost today! Few of us our wounded! Look around!” Artemis assured them, “Now get some rest! We have a lot of training ahead of us.”
