• The Creatures in the Woods
    Chapter 1

Hi, my name is Makayla. One night, I was walking in the woods with my friends, Alyssa, Opal, and Alexandra. This one night changed our lives, but is it for the better? Here is my story, of that night, in the woods.

“Guys, I think we should go back! It’s getting dark and I hate it out here!” Opal complained. She was not one of the bravest, nor one of the oldest in the group, but she was the most scared. She trembled and shook as we made our way to the heart of the woods.

Alyssa and I looked at her, then glanced at each other and rolled our eyes. We pushed her forward and trudged on through the mucky, slippery mud that covered the ground. I looked up at Alexandra who was quickly pushing vines and bushes out of her way, only to slow Opal and the rest of us down.

“Hey,” I whispered, “What is that?” I pointed toward the sky as a huge black figure swung down and started chasing us.

“Let’s move! Come on! Hurry!” Alexandra was screaming. She had absolutely no idea what it was, or why it was chasing them, she just knew that they had to RUN! Just then, Alyssa tripped and was sent flying into me, and we both landed on the ground. Opal was too scared to notice, and Alexandra was too far ahead.

I picked Alyssa up and we hid just in time, for the figure had just gotten close. Luckily, he hadn’t noticed us duck behind a bush and continued flying in the other direction. Alyssa climbed out from behind the bush and looked for what she had tripped on. I rolled my eyes, like she was going to find it! It was pitch dark! Wait a second, it’s already NIGHTTIME!!??

Opal and Alexandra were out of the woods, panting like dogs. Then they heard a scream, an earsplitting cry that could break a window. Alyssa and I heard it too; it was coming from right above the woods. We sprinted out and literally ran into Alexandra, who fell into Opal, who collapsed to the ground.

“Did you hear that?” Opal whimpered, scared to death.

“How could we NOT hear that, Opal??” I yelled at her as I stood up, “Come on, let’s go to my house, you guys were supposed to spend the night anyway, right?” They nodded and we headed off in the direction of my house.
