All she remembered was the bright flash of light and an intense burning feeling in her chest. Was she dead, is this what being dead feels like? It didn’t feel like anything, just darkness. Maybe she wasn’t dead yet, maybe she was dying instead, at least wrapped in this darkness there was no pain. She remembered the pain from before the lights went out and cringed at the thought. She began slipping further into the darkness. She was sliding deeper and deeper into the complete dark, into the deep, dark abyss as his face flashed through her thoughts one last time. That face of the one she knew she had loved, the one who had pulled the trigger that sent her to face the cool numbing darkness for the rest of eternity. The darkness wrapped its arms around the young women holding her close as she took one last breath.
