• Where was that light coming from anyway? I looked to the side and noticed there was a rectangular panel on the wall that looked very slightly different from the rest. But wait, the edges had light shining through the tiniest cracks.
"A door!" I whispered to myself. I walked toward it carefully, dodging the creaky floorboards. That way, my mom wouldn't come up and ruin all the fun. What could possibly be inside? I rose my hand up and gently rubbed it across the panel.
"How on earth do I get in?" I whispered. For some unknown reason, I thought the panel would be flimsy, so I hesitated before pushing on it. When I saw it was pretty sturdy, I pushed with all my might. Nothing. It still stood firm as a rock, and seemed to be mocking me because I couldn't get inside.
Suddenly I remembered something! It seemed like a silly thing to remember, but it was something. In my mind I saw an old Scooby-Doo cartoon where Shaggy accidentally toggled the switch to a secret door by sitting on a rock.
That was it! It must have a hidden switch! But where?... I ripped through everything in the room fast as possible. I pressed and moved old boxes, but still nothing. I had gone through almost everything in our small attic until I came across an old dusty bookcase.
Duh! Books were always the switches! I flipped through tons of books until I found one particularly dusty and strange book. So, I pulled it back like I did the rest of them.
CREAK! The strange door slowly slid itself open, and my mouth dropped.
