    Chapter 1
    Next in Line

Today was one of the worst ever, at least for one girl. On the top of a hill in a city called Startower Hills stood a large house. In this house, two girls sat in a bedroom. The girl with the bad day was named Sirietta Midnight.
"I hate everything!" she yelled. She seemed worried.
"Why Ri?" asked the other girl.
"You already know, Adrian." Ri said, irritated, "You know what today is." She didn't want to talk to anyone about it.
"So do I." said a voice at the door. Adrian's quadruplet sister, Siri Lunar was standing there.
"It's time." Siri said "Everyone's downstairs"

Ten minutes later, Ri and the others were in the family room for the party for Ri, but Ri wasn't celebrating. Another of Ri's friends, Tanya Wildwind, approached Ri and asked "Why aren't you celebrating, Ri? I would be if it were -"
    "Shut up, Tanya." Ri snapped.
Usually, Tanya was easy going and had an even temper, but no one told her to shut up.
"Fine then!" she snapped, "I was just being happy for you! Why are you so snippy?"
"I'm scared." said Ri. She looked it.
"I'm sorry" said Tanya. "What's wrong?"
"I'm afraid to lead, Tanya. I need help."
"And that's what we're here for." said a voice behind them.
The voice belonged to a very tall, very pale girl with long black hair with one long red and gold streak in the front.
"Phoenix!" Tanya and Ri yelled at the same time.
"That's my name." said Phoenix Eturna-Midnight, Ri's adopted sister. Phoenix was known to be very sarcastic at times.
"Well, well, look who it is." said a voice.
The voice belonged to a boy with glasses and black hair that looked like he just got up from bed.
"Drop dead, Jamie." said Ri angrily. Jamie Espion was slightly stuck up and arrogant for a thirteen-year-old boy, but sometimes he can be serious and genuine, especially around Leann, his sister.
"Yea Jamie," said Tanya, "don't be so insensitive!"
"Ok people, gather around!" said a woman's voice. It was Amire, Ri's mother. Ami stood at 5'10" with dark skin and blue eyes. She was standing in the middle of the room.
"As we all know," said Ami, "it was Osiris' last wish to wait until Ri's fifteenth birthday to do this. And wait we did. Now, we celebrate this joyous occasion."
She summoned Ri from the back of the room. As Ri walked to the center, Ami said, "And on her birthday, Sirietta will take her place as the Lady Phoenix!"
Ri heard cheers, but felt awful.
