• Chapter 2: a day’s journey

The night had passed quickly for kin, and now it was day light and the early morning sun shone brightly through the leaves of the many trees that had surrounded him. “Today is the day” he thought to him self “im going to my sister city of uasgi, and there if im lucky some one may know what happened the day my city fell.” He looked out over the path to uasgi and sighed “it should be at least a day’s journey to get there by foot” he said to him self as he began to walk down the dirt path. Behind him the city of mika lie in ruins but to kin it was still alive the voices of children rose high in his ears, the sounds of people clamoring and cars passing by still filled his mind, he could still hear the sounds of his beloved home and the voices of the people he loved. “They may be gone” he thought “but inside my heart, in my memories they are still alive.” By the time it was noon he had walked several miles and was in need of a rest, he felt his legs weakening, “I must rest” he thought, “if I don’t I might collapse then I might not make it to the city until night fall.” He found him self a place to rest under a large oak tree, the shade was cool and the tree was filled with life! Little sparrows chirped happily as the hopped from branch to branch, little squirrels chattered nosily as they gathered acorns from the base of the tree very close to where kin was sitting. Kin sat under the tree enjoying the sounds of the little birds and laughed softly at the squirrels that chased each other up the tree where they soon disappeared under the leaves. When kin felt he had rested enough he decided he would continue on, fairly soon he hoped to reach the city of usagi. By the time he reached the half way marker the sun was beginning to set, and night was slowly creeping in. “ I don’t feel right” he said to him self as he held his head, his cheeks were flushed and his vision was blurry and he could barley keep him self standing. He walked about two more feet before he finally collapsed and fell to the ground, He could no longer go on. Some time later he awoke in a bed with white cotton sheets and an old wooden frame. “w-where am I?” he asked weakly, just then a young girl entered the room holding a bowl of cold water and a few rages, “why you’re in the city of usagi!” she answered. Kin looked up at her weakly “I made it?” he asked “your shore did,” Said the girl as she placed a wet rag on his forehead. She was no older the kin and had brown hair with golden yellow eyes and she two was a neko just like kin! “I found you lying just out side the city gates” she told kin, “you also had quite the fever when I found you.” “Thank you for helping me” kin said as he tried to sit him self up a little, “no problem” said the girl as she helped him sit straight. “Oh!” she said “my names kyoshi kohana, you may call me kyo for short if you like” “that’s a beautiful name” said kin “my name is kin hoshi” he said “it’s nice to meet you.”
