• A Look At The Sea
    A Short by Dee Mariee!

The young girl sits with her legs dangling off the cliff, staring out into the great blue oblivion around her. Only fifteen, and yet she still has a beautiful imagination. At the moment, she imagines life, bright, vibrant colors swirling, dancing about the horizon like a flame. She watches as the sun sinks toward the sea line, turning a deeper, more beautiful red-orange as it dives lower toward the water.

The girl remembers her mother, who in her eyes, was as glowing and vibrant as the setting sun. Her mother had never thought about what was missing, but what she had. Always smiling, laughing, she never showed if she was upset (if she ever was). She was always happy, and worked hard to make others happy, no matter how bad the situation.

A tear slides down the girl’s cheek, and she hastily wipes it away. Her and her mother used to watch the sunset together every night. The young girl watches as the once-white clouds turn a bright, open magenta.

The great fireball seems to be falling at rapid speed toward the great blue abyss the girl calls the sea. The water seems to be changing color, like the falling leaves of autumn, outstanding reds, oranges, yellows.

The gorgeous mixes of reds and pinks in the sky remind the girl of her mother once more. Those were the colors that stood out on her. Pinks brightened her mother’s cheeks and eyelids, while red struck her lips, making her beauty outstanding.

More tears flow from the young woman’s eyes as memories of her mother come crashing down around her like rain. She had always thought of her mother the most beauteous woman on Earth. Now, as she tries not to think of her mother, she watches the great yellow light sink behind the sea line, not completely underwater. Thoughts of her mother swirl through her mind and tears flow down her face, unwilling to stop.

Soon the flashes of the last light of the sun peek out from above the flowing purple sea. The last thoughts of the girl’s mother vanish like the setting sun displayed in front of her. The sky becomes dark with the horizon brimming with a purple light. And as she rises from her place on the cliff, she puts the gorgeous scene away in her mind. With one last look at the water, she turns to leave and walks back to her lonely home by the sea.
