• Chapter Thirteen: The Capture
“Shadowpaw, I’m going out to do the laundry now! Is there anything you want me to do while I’m out?” Lola was about to leave after a week in bed. Lola had successfully remembered the incident at the waterfall, and has somewhat learned how to control her inner flames.
“Can you go and get Olivia to bring the children over? I need to take my shift with them or Dad will throw a fit.” Shadowpaw was peering around a doorway to speak with Lola; she was busy in the other room cleaning up as she does every week or so.
“Sure, sure; I’ll walk by her place on my way out. Anything else?”
“No I’m good, just try and stay out of trouble while you’re gone, okay?” Lola looked at Shadowpaw for a second before responding.
“When do I ever get in trouble? Okay, don’t answer that one.”
“Just try and keep your mind off Kino okay?” Lola paused, thinking about what Shadowpaw had just noted.
“Sure I will. It’s a lot easier to do that with him around though.” Lola walked off, beginning to wonder why Kino had to go on a hunting trip with Bloodfang instead of someone else. It wasn’t long until she ran into Olivia. She was watching over the young children of the village lately.
Among them was Kino and shadowpaw’s younger sister, Carmela, who was a very prominent young girl. Her hair was a light brown with almost red in it, and her eyes were almost golden. With skin to match she truly did look like she was made of caramel, and she had a personality to match. However she was attached to Lola like a baby duckling to its mother.
As Lola approached Carmela ran towards her, practically knocking the baskets of laundry in her hands to the ground. Even though Carmela was in human form, she always had her wolf-like way of doing everything. She kissed Lola on both checks and squeezed herself into Lola’s abdomen, practically crushing her if it wasn’t for the fact that Lola was much stronger than her.
“Carmela, you musty learn to control yourself. You’re going to end up hurting someone.” Lola said her name with a certain ring, pronouncing the C and rolling the R, by the end it was like she was singing her name.
“I missed you Lola, why were you gone so long? I miss big brother too.” Carmela was now sitting in Lola’s lap on the ground, considering neither of them wanted to stand up at that point.
“I’m sorry, but your mean big sis’ didn’t let me come over till now, and your big bro wanted to keep me company. WE thought that since you were with your friends you’d be okay with it, but obviously we were wrong.”
“Yes you were very wrong. So where are you going? Are you going to go do the laundry? Can I come with you?” Lola took a glance at Catherine, just to see if it was okay. Olivia gave a nod saying it was oaky and Lola looked back to Carmela and grinned.
“Well of course you can come; I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Lola rubbed her nose against Carmela’s, as she often does. They both got up and walked away from the group with the baskets. As they walked towards the waterfall, where the laundry is often done, Lola was given a complete update on everything she missed from the daily boredom to the fight that broke out a few days ago that Carmela had helped break up.
After about half an hour Carmela decided that they deserved a break and jumped into the small lake in front of the waterfall before the river starts. Lola followed her in, and they swam for quite a bit. After a little while they heard something but thought it best to stay in the water.
“Is someone out there? Hello? You can come out, we aren’t dangerous.” A figure moved out of the forest wall. The first thing that Lola saw was its intense red eyes.
“Oh I know you aren’t. However I on the other hand, have a different agenda.” Nosaka walked to the edge of the small lake and began to walk almost back and forth in a pacing kind of stroll movement. “That must be Kino’s younger sister, Carmela right? She is a beauty, too bad it’s the beautiful ones that end up having the loyalty problems.”
“Then you must be Miss America. What are you doing here, and how do you know about Carmela?” Nosaka walked to the water, a sly look upon her face.
“I’ve been doing my research, and now its time for you to see what you missed in the last few years that you stayed in this prison. Don’t worry; I’ll come back to free all of your little friends.” Nosaka kicked Lola in the chest while she was about to jump out of the water. Lola fell to the ground, and Carmela swam at her.
“You hurt her! Your mean! Apologize to her now!” Carmela was full with rage, or at least as much as she could muster at the time.
“There are no apologies needed except mine to you for leaving you here with the barbarians.” Nosaka was off, Lola in hands. Carmela tried to chase after her, but after coming out of the water she found that they were already gone, never to return…
