• Chapter 5: Lance’s Side

“Hey ‘Lance’, how’s it going?” asked Karl.
“Ugh, shut up. I never want to hear that name outside of NYPDDE. So, you better love calling me Keith, because if you ever say Lance again, first I’ll tell you that’s not my name, then I’ll punch your face in,” threatened Keith.
“Just tell us how far you’ve gotten, and what you’ve found out so far,” said a tall, dark haired, and very serious man.
“Of course. There are ‘rumors’ of us planning their downfall and getting large sums of money in the process. So, basically, they’re on to us. The only thing is that I’m not sure if they’ve been spending their spare time just making that stuff up, or they really know about this.”
“If you were told it was just a rumor, I’m not so sure that they know what’s happening. How close are you to the girl?”
“She’s definitely falling for it. We’ve been having ‘serious chats’, so there is no way she could possibly be suspicious. Their boss did ask me if it was my first time doing this, though. Of course, I told him it was, and he seemed pretty satisfied with the answer. What does Kari have, again?”
“Stupid! She has the Charm of the Gates. It was a family heirloom, or something like that. Not only is the charm itself worth a lot because it is made of pure gold, but it is the only thing to open the passageway Gerald found. Supposedly, there were all sorts of gold and artifacts stashed away back there, and were left for only the Kranstits to find. The reason NYPDDE took her in is because they don’t want us to have her. She doesn’t know anything about it because her mother never got a chance to tell her before she died, and her father isn’t a blood relative, so he was never allowed to be told. How many times have we told you this?” said Karl.
“That’s right,” said the serious man who they obviously called Gerald. “It’s getting close to time for you to take it up a notch. Start giving her the feeling that you really care about her. Now go. Get some rest. We’ll meet here, the same time, next week, understood?”
“Yes, Gerald,” Keith replied as he turned around and left. When he got home, he went to his room and lay down. What if I really do care about her? Sure, she may seem a little, serious, but there’s a personality just waiting to burst out. Hold on, what am I thinking? She’s just another person, who happens to make everyone feel like she cares about them in a unique way. She’s just a nice girl. No need to be flattered. Keith’s thoughts continued like this until he fell asleep. It seemed as if fell asleep suddenly, with absolutely no warning at all.
