April heard the rustling of plastic bags and people chattering. Looking around, April saw amusement cards all over. She decided to choose the other the one that would fit her friend best. She saw one with Hello Kitty on it and Hello Kitty was holding an umbrella in her hand with a stuffed bunny in her other paw. Another one had zigzag patterns on it. She also noticed that most of the cards were food coupons. April choose the one with the Hello Kitty on it. A teeny neon colored sign said over fifty dollars. April thought of buying a happy birthday card instead but then she remembered what her friend had bought her for her past birthdays. April joked in her head, I wonder if I could smuggle this into my bag. April chuckled a bit. She was determined to buy that Hello Kitty card for her. Her birthday was a week and a half away. April replaced the card, exited, and headed for home.

April waited for her mother to answer the doorbell. “I’m coming” Mom said. Mom opened the door. “I misplaced my keys again” April said to her mom as she stepped into her house. Suddenly, she remembered that she had something to tell her mom. “Mom, I know this sounds really stupid for my age but,” she held a slight pause but she just decided to just come out and say it very quickly. “Can I have a job?!?!” she exclaimed very quickly. April’s mom did not think she was ready. April could tell by the look on her face. “Let me see…” April’s mom said. “What if you can prove you’re responsible enough to handle one? Because with school and all the tests coming up, I don’t think you’re ready for one.” “Um…Okay…” April said. She thought that this would be hard because she heard from Kaiser that they were going to have a new teacher. She wasn’t use to new routines. April ran upstairs and started on her homework.

“April, time for school!” April’s mom yelled. April was already prepared. She went downstairs, said goodbye to her mom and left. She waited for the bus outside. She wondered if she could survive long enough with the trade she had with her mom. Then she started wondering about where to work. She heard from Kaiser that Say Cheese was hiring. That was her favorite food place. Something shattered her thoughts. It was the school bus. She stepped on the school bus. She noticed Katherine, her friend waving to her. “What?” April said. “What did your mom say?” Katie asked. “She said I have to prove myself responsible.” April replied as she walked to the back of the bus, looking for a seat. She wondered if Say Cheese was a good place to work. Many people go to eat there everyday and you get timed for cooking. She hadn’t noticed how much time had pass. “Students please step off the bus and headed for her locker.

April quickly unpacked her books for Science and got her Social Studies textbooks and homework. Kaiser was walking by and he said, “Social Studies first period.” Kaiser always thought April didn’t know what was going on. The bell rang; April closed her locker and went to class in haste.

April found out she had a strict Social Studies teacher. She could tell by the look on her face. “Hello students, my name is Ms.Du.” the teacher said with a hiss. When she walked over to Kaiser, she screeched in very despicable voice. “Get your book out now and look about everybody else. Kaiser felt spit go onto his face. He inched back every two seconds. “Chapter 6.” Katie said. “Excuse me who asked you missy?” Ms.Du said. I absolutely hate this teacher. Katherine thought. “Begin reading!” Ms.Du said as she pointed at April. April couldn’t refuse because of the look on the teacher’s face. Ms.Du was intimidating her. April began reading. “Condoleeza Rice was born in….” April didn’t want to get on Ms.Du’s bad side. She also wondered if Ms.Du was hiding something.

The trade between April and her mom was coming to an end. It was the last day of the trade. April quickly ran out of the house and waited for the bus. Suddenly she noticed the bus was a block after her house. Oh My God, April thought. She had missed the bus. She walked in a depressed mode and walked to school. She knew she shouldn’t have put her hopes so high because she would watch them fall one way or another. It started to rain heavily.

April arrived to school late. She walked inside Ms.Du’s room late. “What’s your excuse for being late?” Ms.Du said as she looked at April with sharp eyes. “I um....missed the school bus...” April said with a stuttering voice. Ms.Du screeched to the whole class about her grades dropping down. April suddenly spied a centepede on the ground and jumped on the desk. Ms.Du shook her head. It was going to be a long day.

While April was walking home, she noticed Ms.Du crossing the street with a speeding car 50 feet ahead of her. Without thinking, she pulled Ms. Du across the street. When she finished, Ms.Du realized not all students have to be bad."Sorry, I guess I'll change your grades back, its the least I could do." Ms.Du said as she called April's mom. "All Wells That Ends Well!" April thought.
