• The sound of a door slamming wakes me up. I listen but hear nothing; just my breathing. Strange, they're not fighting. Curious, I slip out of bed and into the dark halls. In the shadows, I see the kitchen. In the kitchen, I see my mom sitting at the table, her head in her hands. All I could think of was, "Where's Daddy?"

I was five then. When my dad left our family, I mean. Now I'm a sophmore at Rosemary High, the preppiest highschool around. And between classes, or even at lunch, I always end up thinking about my dad. What happened? My mom never told me. Where's he gone? Somewhere far from here, I'm sure. Does he remember me? He never writes. Come to think of it, do I really remember him?

Ever since my dad left, my mom's life has been full of new men, but all of them came and went, breaking her heart just like my dad did. I don't want be to become like her, so I've made a vow to never fall in love for love is something no one can control...
