• I angrily rolled out of bed and I put on my special camouflage clothing that my sister Florina had made for me, specifically for stealth missions. I trusted this clothing to do the job because Florina is the most powerful thread weaver in all of Kaiku. I put on my daggers and strapped on my sword and I was off to the palace. I reached out tentatively for David and amazingly I found him.
Do you know where you are? I asked him.
Jenny’s room. But now it’s Bast I guess. He replied
That must mean that my family is somewhere in the palace as well! I said happily
Trust me, they’re in Kenea. David told me
How do you know? I asked.
Just trust me okay? David said and that was the end of it.
Okay… do you know the easiest way to her room without being caught? I asked.
Well, no not really. Bast has guards everywhere. She’s determined not to let me be with you. Why I don’t know… he said but I knew he was hiding something.
Yes you do. I said plainly.
    I have an idea. I don’t think it’s plausible… he told reluctantly.
    Tell me! I shouted.
We could be soul mates. He hesitantly said.

It’s the only thing that makes sense. Bast said something about our power together could overthrow her. The only way two beings can share and mix power is if they are soul mates or have undergone the Lady to the Lord ceremony. We haven’t done the Lady to the Lord ceremony so the only thing left would us being soul mates. And you don’t have a Gift in the mind. The only way you’re able to reach me is by us being soul mates. David explained hurriedly.

    Say something!
We’ll talk about this later. First I’ve gotta bust you out of there. And I broke the connection before he could protest. I quickly went over all of the routes I knew of to get to Jenny’s room. I could go through the kitchen, throne room, or the bath house… or the vents. I had forgotten that the palace actually had vents. I think they use it so all of the magical essences and smoke from cooking don’t clog up the house and suffocate everyone present. Seems like a good choice to me. And Jenny’s room will have one because she’s a huge fan of burning essences. Looks like it’s time to pay a visit to the roofs, I thought to myself. I had reached the castle.
“Air, I call you to me.” I whispered. A breeze ruffled my hair. I made a gesture to me and then to the roof and I got picked up and taken to the roof. “Thank you.” I told the air gratefully and they left. Joy. Now I’ve got to find the vents. I searched the top of the roof quickly and I didn’t find any outlets.
“I call the air coming from the palace to reveal itself to me and its source along with it.” I called out. Nothing happened for a minute and I thought, I’m screwed. Then a black cloud appeared. Once it knew I had seen it, the cloud flew to my right and I followed. It had led me to a slight indention in the roof and I could barely see the shutters in which the air from the palace left and new air came in.
“Thank you.” I told the cloud gratefully and it drifted away, riding on the breeze. I grabbed the dagger in the back of my right boot and used it to pop of the vent. Luckily the shaft was really big so I could easily move around. I replaced my dagger, prayed to the Goddess that I would come out alive and well, and lowered myself into the shaft.
David, I need you to guide me to Jenny’s room. Or at least tell me where I am in the palace. I called out.
You’re between the page’s dormitories and the kitchen. David replied.
    K. thanks! I told him and broke the connection. If I’m where David says I am then should only have to go straight for a little more and make a left and then a right and I should be right above Jenny’s room. I planned to myself. And I was right on. Just like I thought I would,I ended up right above Jenny’s room and I could see David through the vent.
Is Bast in there? I asked him.
No. she’ll be back soon though. If you’re going to get me out of here, do it now. He told me. With the all clear I gently popped the vent up and dropped into Jenny’s room. Apparently David had been expecting me to come in through the door.
“Time to go.” I said. I grabbed his hand and started towards the door. Instead he pulled me into him and kissed me. For a second I was helpless but I regained my will power and broke it.
“No time. We’ve got to go now.” I stressed and this time when I pulled him to the door he followed.
“I thought you would like to know that Bast has moved them into the palace.” David told me a split second before I turned the door handle. He didn’t even have to specify who he was talking about. I turned around to face him.
“Really? Why? Where are they being held?” I asked.
“Your family is being held in the dungeons, below the palace. They were moved here because Bast had thought that it would be easier to guard them and me if we were in the same place.” David explained.
“Well now we can save them! Do you know the way to the dungeons?” I asked him.
“Yes. And I know a safe route too.” He replied confidently. I turned back around and turned the door handle and guess who was waiting for me. Yup, it was Bast, the god who has been trying to kill me since I started training to be a knight.
