• It was different when it was just her betraying her city. Now that she found that her best friends were doing it too, she realized that she needed to stop what she was doing. Unfortunately for her, she didn’t know the whole story. As she was skirting away, back towards the sea, Zane spotted her. He called out her name as if he knew she was there the whole time he had been seducing the poor fragile innocent human girl. What the girl didn’t realize was that they weren’t human; they never could be. When Zane slid his fangs out, the girl screamed bloody murder.
"Y- you’re a vampire!!!" she managed as she was struggling to get out of his hold.
"You aren’t so lucky." he chuckled as he slammed her to the floor. "Do you know what my name means? It means sea strength. I’m a prisoner of the sea. Forever. No human could possibly understand what we are." He gestured for Nerissa to come over. As he grabbed her hand, she couldn’t help but feel that special jolt of magic that ran through her as she was reminded of the first day they had touched. It had been so magical... but she knew now that she could never be with Zane. Not since she met Irvin. Well, rather ever since her mother met Irvin. She hated that boy with all of her heart. Her parents were going to force her to be wed with that jerk and his toothy smile. Aren’t mermaids supposed to be beautiful? Because he is the most horrid looking creature in the sea, she thought to herself. It wasn’t right, how her parents could force her to marry a man that was completely the opposite of her one and only true love... Wait, she had to stop. Zane might hear her thoughts if she thought them too loudly.
"Oh, I will, will I?" Zane tried to make better of the situation, but couldn’t. Right then was when he passed them. It all happened so quickly, she hadn’t even seen them coming. I’m so stupid, she thought to herself. Zane knelt and touched the girl softly on the cheek. Zane murmured to me through our thoughts, we have to get out. He’s here. We grabbed the girl and ran back towards the sea.
