• “What!” Caleb was furious. How could they have made this decision without him, Caleb actually didn’t give a damn what the division of elders decided, this time though, this time it involved her. “Why are we going back into the world of humans? They almost damned us all! The youth of that era, all gone! Our population suffered horribly and you want to take that all back!”

“No, we don’t, but this time it will be different” Malcolm was horrified, why had Henry come to this damn decision, why had he even brought it up! He looked over at Arielle. Even she, who always was the only one who would contradict Caleb, had a terrified look on her face. Yes, Henry had crossed the line, but Henry was of Malcolm’s own blood. His brother. The bond between them was weak, but it was still there; he had to aid family. But damn it, this one subject, the one of returning into the world of humans, it involved the one thing that would make Caleb even care what the elders concluded upon, it involved Reverie. Reverie, who is the meaning of Caleb’s very existence, Reverie who had almost been killed that last time we had been found out. The emotion was almost remote when she had been trapped, but never as bad as her awakening.

After she had awakened, Caleb had bean judged, but what had got him such a lowly consequence was not his age or knowledge, or in fact even his leadership. It was his anger, the way it heightened his power, had made it murderous. It was also what he was angry about. Something had gone wrong when Reverie had awakened. She had not remembered anything before the moment she had seen Caleb’s eager face, the face that had twisted into pain as she had touched it, his hand holding hers. She asked the question, “Who?” A question had resulted in the scene Caleb had just been through, to be projected in every near vampires mind, the pain that Caleb felt had been fatally threatening. It had felt like your heart was being ripped, torn, and burnt, all at the same time, and that hadn’t even been enough pain to describe the impact that it had held, that was also only what was being coasted outside of Caleb to his aura, and that, was probably no where near the pain that Caleb had been feeling.

Compared to that height of angered power. This was nothing. Malcolm forced himself to look up, straight at Caleb’s murderous gaze. He flinched.

“Just how are we going to do this, were are we going to live without suspicion, how’s it going to look with a bunch of people with a gauze fabric over their face every time they step outside.” Caleb’s eyes flashed. “And the children, when they mature. How many memories will have to be erased, how many casualties will there be, children fainting when in sunlight, never getting sick, cut, or cold, pale as the moon, collapsing buildings with just a tap of their finger.”

No one dared to interrupt him. Then, of course, Henry spoke up. Why did my brother have to be so thick sculled?

“We will divide up into clans, nowadays with humans it is not that unordinary for a whole family to live in a house together, I believe it is called adoption and foster care. Also humans nowadays don’t believe in us more than mythical creatures and the ones that do are overlooked. A fashion statement, is a valid excuse used for the gauze material; windows and walls protect us after all it is only in direct sunlight that fainting happens.” Finished with his speech Henry looked up then under Caleb’s fiery glare flinched and looked down again. Yes, you are not so proud now are you brother?

“Sudden attacks with the blood of preference, they can be controlled by experienced adults yes, but to a just matured child, a child just entering the vampire phase.”

“The child will have an excused absence when entering the maturation stage. And we are given powers for sudden attacks.”

“Are you forgetting the matter of time that would take, and to add, the human brain is prone to memory loss as it is, are we helping this disease along.”

That was it; Caleb was going to win this knowledge battle. But then Henry got the look. The look was a thought, one Henry found brilliant, one that would probably bring him near death if he said it aloud. But this was Henry, and Henry –though my brother- was one conceited b*****d.

“Have you asked her opinion, do you know if she wants to go back?”

That was it. Caleb’s eyes were at the peak; right now just the thought of Reverie was the only thing holding him back. Of course Reverie wanted to go back. She was connected to the human world like none of us were.

“No.” Every one turned around shocked. The voice was unmistakable. It was the most beautiful one of our kind, also the only sound that could stop Caleb cold.

Malcolm looked over at Henry. He was completely recoiling. Now this was one factor he hadn’t consulted. Reverie loved the human world, she felt connected there, and even when she had almost died she had not wanted to leave it. Yet at this very moment she was refusing the thought. Painful determination was surfacing in her eyes. No she wouldn’t go. No one would be able to change her mind.
