• ***Azuri's P.O.V.***
I have to admit i had Kohai all wrong. I still didn't know what right he had to be depressed but my guess was way off. It didn't have to do with being in the forbidden city with us black wings, in fact he didn't seem to look down at us in the least. Whatever it was had soemthing to do with that castle. I didn't learn what his reason was until later.
I then lead Kohai into the place i always came for breakfast: the doughnut shop.
Ah, yes, the fried dough glazed with sugary goodness, what could be better? At first Kohai was confused and nervous, keeping close to my side as the popular store filled with hungry customers. Layia, the anarchist girl that worked here with curly black hair home to a single blue highlight, saw me as she shooed a kid away from her fresh batch of doughnuts with a rolled up newspaper. She grinned that lovely smile and called me over. I went to her pulling Kohai along.
"Hey Azuri!" She greeted, whacking that kid with the newspaper. "Hows life?"
"Livin' life and livin' well. Busy morning," I commented. Layia laughed and nodded, putting the last two doughnuts in one of her orders as she passed the box over the counter and took the money. She pocketed it.
"Busy as hell. What you need? Your usual?" Layia asked, already ringing it up. I slid my hands in my pockets and shook my head, eyeing the selection.
"Nah, i got a kid with me today." I said, wrapping my arm around Kohai in display. Layia noticed him for the first time and her crystal blue eyes went wide.
"Well i'll be! Hi there little cutie. Aren't you just adorable?" She said, flashing a grin of those perfect teeth of hers. Kohai rested his head against me and i smiled as he blushed. He was kind of cute...
"Well i'll tell you what, i'll hook my favorite customer up with some free dougnuts this morning to share with his new little friend." Layia said, already filling a box with different kinds. She passed it to me then leaned over, whispering to Kohai, "Don't let him eat all of them 'cause he will if you let him."
I rolled my eyes. Kohai giggled. "C'mon, Kohai." I gripped his hand and pulled him along. "Nice to see you Layia," i called as i reached the door, then left with my doughnuts.
I began walking along the streets i knew so well, off towards the only park in the entire city. I had a doughnut already half way in my mouth when i realized i was still holding Kohai's hand. I looked at our hands but he didn't seem to mind. He was looking off at everything as if we were in a musem, meanwhile his fingers curled around my hand. I smiled and ate my doughnut. Maybe there was more to this kid then i'd thought a white wing could be.
I took Kohai to my favorite spot at the park, walking there so he'd be better able to see the city i'd lived in all my life. I sat at an out of the way bench away from the trail so all the people wouldn't make Kohai nervous. We ate doughnuts and gazed out at the pretty water, sitting side by side, something unfamiliar to both of us. Two doughnuts eaten later i spoke up.
"So, you're not like those other white wings huh? All stuck up and ****?" I asked, starting on my third doughnut. Kohai shook his head and swallowed.
"No. One of my body guards, Sindol, he's kind of like that. But i think it's stupid." He took another bite. I looked at him breifly, chewing.
    "How come?"
He shrugged. "He says things that dont make sense. Like how black wings aren't as beautiful or caring as white wings, and how they're not capable of all taht white wings are."
My free hand clutched automatically into a fist. I gridded my teeth but tried to keep my expression nonchalant. "You dont think that though?"
    "No,"
    "Why not?"
Something i've realized about Kohai: he surprises me a lot. Like now, with what he answers with; Kohai turned to look at me, smiling a little as his scarlet eyes swam with nothing short of awe. His pure white braid fell over his shoulder and he blushed adorably. "I never adressed it before," he said, "and now i know it's not true. After all, you're more beautiful then anyone i've ever seen and you're definately more caring. And you pulled off saving me," He shrugged those adorably small shoulders of his, "no white wing ever bothered trying that before."
I was astonished. I was beautiful? And caring? Me? Wow..
Before i could stop myself i reached up and peeled Kohai's loose white hair out of his face, stroking his hair. His eyes widened but he didn't object. My fingers traced his cheek, almost as if i was saying thank you, then i slid my hand aruond him and pulled him to me. I pulled him up against me, placing his head on my shoulder, and folded my arm around him. The top of his hair was now at my lips and i closed my eyes, not bothering to try to make sense of what i was feeling.
Kohai was surpised but he settled in my hold after only a moment. He rested his hand on my chest and i felt him tremble beneath my hand. I stroked his shoulder to assure him he was safe here. Kohai smiled and stroked my chest in return, both of us lost in this moment too confusing for words.
