• Chapter 1:
    Speak no Evil.

The sky became dark and murky as the clouds quietly streamed through the night. They covered the stars tightly, only leaving the light of the moon to be seen. With that being, the night was just as still with a heavy cover of humidity- the kind that makes you feel like you are walking through a sauna. To think it would be hot, would mean you were wrong. Dead wrong. The weather was only cold and silent. Bergfrid - a town in the middle of Germany, emulated the weather all around, so as not to see a single soul roaming the streets. Only the light of candles from the Bergfrid Mansion showed any sign of life.

"Set the camera. Is it rolling? Okay. We are gathered here today for the marriage between the body of the living and the soul of the deceased. May I ask everyone who is participating to please sit down and join hands?" A man with jet-black hair wearing a full leather suit with metal accents spoke loudly into the room. He stood tall but very skinny with glasses that covered his face although you could still see that he was a handsome man.
Around the room seven people sat in a lavish and large library. Books of all titles, colors and text were held in mahogany bookshelves 12 feet high and in the middle a large circular table with a globe-like object on top. On the eastern most side across from the door sat a lady and a gentleman (in similar attire to the speaker) on a white velvet chaise lounge. Next to them was a matching coffee table and on that sat a third man with long blond hair tied back tightly and a plain white shirt with black slacks. He easily rested his feet on a matching white ottoman. The three of them held hand eachothers hands and moved in toward the table as if they were family.
The woman reached out and grabbed the speaker's hand and he reached toward a little girl no older than 12. Her hair was dark black and had similar features to him, but wore a light blue dress of frill and lace. On the other side of the room next to a map of the world was a young handsome boy; his clothes more modern with jeans, vest and a T-shirt and resting on the wall was a woman with bright red hair and the same leather suit, except hers was lined with fur. The rest of them joined the circle and held hands together.

"Now. Please give me the ring that will bind your souls together for eternity." The first man spoke. The red-headed woman gave him a spray-bottle perfume from the fifties with the name Alonso on it.
"Thank you Frances. Please join the circle once more." He took the bottle of the perfume and rested it on top of the globe-like object that stood on the table in which they were around.
"Alright. Now everyone please be seated around the table." He spoke and everyone sat at the seats. "And be sure to fasten your seatbelt."
"Seatbelt? Why do we need these?" The young modern boy asked. The room's silence was filled with the slight murmurs and chuckles of laughter.
"Young Klaus. Its best not to question the methods of my madness and just do as I say." The speaker smiled. Klaus buckled his seatbelt extra tight.
"Now if you would all be so kind as to close your eyes and hold on tight. This will be a little... quick." And as the speaker spoke, the room slowly began to rotate clockwise. Klaus noticed how relaxed everyone seemed to be, so he began to relax as well.

Suddenly the room began to spin faster and faster. The books started to wiggle and shake, but still stood in place. The same smile from before seemed to be painted on the Speaker's face. The room began to spin at speeds beyond recognition to the point where everything became a blur. Books flew off the shelves at rapid pace, narrowly missing Klaus constantly and shooting them the opposite direction. He could only concentrate on the little girl across from him who's glare was deep but yet still slightly warm. Her golden eyes glistened staring straight back at Klaus. The rotating table's speed ascended even higher and Klaus began to lose consciousness and any form of cognition. His eyelids start to fall and his eyes began to roll back into his head and the last instance he saw was a slight smirk from the little girl. Klaus's heart began to pump faster- his eyes unable to open. His only thoughts were of his death in this spinning room, until an abrupt shift. He felt the room switch directions to counter-clockwise and then a stop.
"Open your eyes my child." The Speaker spoke. Even though Klaus's eyes were closed, he could tell the man was smiling.
The books which had been flying off the shelves from the spinning vortex had suddenly stopped mid-flight. But the room looked completely different now, covered in red velvet and mahogonies and filled with the scent of musk cologne and vanilla. In the middle of the table was a woman in a torn Grecian sarong with golden-red hair, in perfect curls. Her beauty was breathtaking and her skin was flawless.
"...And with my last breath, I must tell you how much I loved you..." She spoke in a tinkle of a bell.
"Now Frances; please pray for our lost soul." The speaker bowed his head and everyone followed, including Klaus. "...And with my last breath, I must tell you how much I loved you..." The woman was still saying the few words as she stared vacantly.
"Let us be thine messenger of the almighty and let this soul take away from our world and feed you, so that you may once again forgive us of our sins. In the name of the saviour." Frances whispered in a monotone voice. The room began to mimic her words slowly and solemnly, chanting the prayer in an almost zen like state. Klaus follwed suit and began to mumble the words as well, memorizing them with each round.
"...And with my last breath, I must tell you..." The Grecian woman slowly began to dissolve into a mist and then dissipated into the perfume bottle. As the last ounce of mist was devoured by the bottle, the books immediately fell. Between the point of praying and the woman disappearing, the table members- aside from Klaus of course, had donned yellow miner helmets, leaving Klaus vulnerable to all the books which knocked him out when the biggest one fell from above his head.

    ---

"...You know, out of all the times I've done this- that was the FIRST time I've ever seen a book hit someone in the head. Some luck you got there kid." A voice was heard from darkness. "You awake yet? Time's a wasting and I ain't got all day!" The voice was that of the blonde man.
"What happened?" Klaus croaked opening his eyes to reveal a rugged, but clean, man looking at him with a smile.
"You forgot your helmet. Usually we tell Newbies to bring a helmet, but since one has never hit anyone before, we decided not to... big mistake." He chuckled slightly.
"Did everyone leave?" Klaus looked around. The room was in perfect place- every book in every space, every inch looking new. He was rested on one of the white chairs with his vest draped on the side.
"They went to rest up for a bit. Only me you and Frances are left." The man pointed to frances who stood near the only window. She turned and smiled courteously and then went back to her window, which she seemed to be engulfed in. The look in her eyes seemed of anguish, but at the same time contentment. Her jacket had been tossed to the side on another couch and she now wore a sleeveless turtleneck with embroidered flowers on the left side. Her hand tapped the bottle as her mind was a thousand miles away.

"By the way- I'm Varse Szlanger. I'll be your guide for the rest of the time, until you get the hang of this. Did you enjoy yourself? ...Aside from the book thing, of course." Varse scratched his head apologetically.
"Let me find my bearings and then I'll tell you." Klaus sat up and felt the bump on his head. It had to be at least the size of a baseball. He scratched his dirty blonde hair and let it fall back to its regular short faux-hawk style. "I'm Kristoff Marie Klaus by the way. But you can call me Klaus." He shook Varse's hand, then stretched and checked his watch, but it was not on his wrist. "What happened to my watch?" He panicked.
"When you're in the 'Bergfrid Chamber' any and all objects that can tell time will break. Even your biological clock. We forgot to tell you... you'll be sleeping chaotic hours for the next week. But you might not since you did just get in that nap... but it wasn't induced properly..." Varse went off on a tangent. "Don't worry though. Marcus's wife has it- the couple that was in here before. They're quite an extraordinary couple those two. Nothing you'll ever see twice, because they're one of a kind. But you'll get to meet them in due time. Right now we have to get to registry before it changes spots." Varse finished back on topic.
"Changes spots? What do you mean?" Klaus spoke up.
"The registry must keep its doorways away from Demons. Or else they'll find us." Frances spoke up, putting on her jacket. "We better hurry- its about to move."
    "C'mon Klaus! She's never wrong."
