• (Ch4)***(The Circle)

The next day the five of them met in box ghost wing on the second floor. That was the place where they would receive their powers. All of the first years were huddled together trying not to be the first by running to the back of the group. Finally the doors opened and there stood Professor Booberry who ushered the closest students inside.

Unfortunately Alaya and Justin were separated from the other three who didn’t manage to get in the first group. Students were yelling out to friends that did not make it inside, and others were on the verge of tears.

“Now, now it’s okay. It isn’t going to hurt.” Professor Booberry replied reassuringly to the kids that were crying, “at least not too much” he added under his breath. He then had all the kids form a line in front of a huge circle. He gave the instructions to them, nudged the first two children toward the circle.

There was a bright flash and screams emitted from inside the circle. Eventually the screams and the light died away and the next two children were ushered forward. Alaya and Justin were quaking in fear; they were next. As the light faded away again, they stepped in the circle and started walking forward; there was a light at the end of the tunnel and they joyfully ran toward it.

But they didn’t get too far; as they stepped over a glowing line the bright light flooded the tunnel and obscured their vision. Alaya felt a tingling feeling in her arms and legs. She wondered why people had screamed, this was kind of fun. She soon got her answer as a jolt of fire burned her then froze her from the inside out. She could barely hear Justin or his screams over her own. Finally they were thrown out by a very powerful force. But as soon as they hit the solid wood floor of the medical room, they blacked out.
