• CHAPTER 6
As he drove, I tried to apoligize.

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t… he just…. The smell…” I couldn’t say it right. He nodded but looked stressed. He avoided my amends.

“So where are you staying, exactly?” Jake asked, ignoring me. I blushed and looked down. This would be embarissing.

“Go…er 3 blocks and then turn right, where you dropped me off two days ago” I said softly. Great, my awesome hide out was now going to make me totally embarrassed. We pulled up to the trees and I hopped out, hoping he wouldn’t follow. He did.

I walked forward about 100 feet, and then turned right into my place. I picked up everything that was mine and put it all in a big bag. I wasn’t really thinking straight, what with the thirst and all, and I was facing away from him so it didn’t really matter, but I pulled off my shirt and tugged on a baby blue tee from my stash. I turned around and Jake was looking the other way, that’s when I realized I’d just changed in front of him.

“Uh…” I said. He turned back and then frowned as he saw me reaching for a blood bag. Best to feed now rather then do something stupid later. Then he did something that surprised me, he stepped forward and ripped the bag out of my hand and glowered at me.

“What is this?” he demanded, holding up the bag of blood. I stared at it hungrily, but answered his question.

“Blood?” I asked, not sure why he was reacting like this.

    “Human blood?”

    “Yea.”

“WHY?” he exploded. I stepped back, shocked.

“The. The. The man at. At the hospital. Gave. Gave it to me” I stuttered. He looked at me like I was speaking Greek, so I spoke again, trying not to stutter. “I asked him for some donated blood. And. And he gave me some. Some from their stash” darn, I still stuttered, but not as much. His frown wavered, and he gave it back to me. I punctured a hole in the bag with my teeth and began to drink.

“Oh. Sorry” he said plainly. I stopped drinking and looked at him closely. He was eyeing the bag, but also me. Huh. I held it out to him, but he just shook his head and smiled. I looked at it and realized I finished it. Ooops. Oh well. “You were thirsty” he commented.

“AHHHH! VAMPIRES!” and old crackly voice croaked. I turned just in time to see an old, haggled man running in the opisite direction, yelling “VAMPIRE! VAMPIRE!”.

“Damn” Jake said, and pulled me as we both broke out into a run back towards his car.

He jumped in, and, leaving me on the sidewalk, sped away. The car turned around and headed directly into the forest, plowing through the bushes. He was going towards the old man. He wouldn’t dare kill him, would he? He was only an old man! Even the risk of our identity wasn’t worth murder!

I took off running in the direction he had drove, following the tire marks into the forest. I was practically flying I was going so fast, but I didn’t have time to realize that I was traveling much faster then I should have been able to, because I was so focused on finding Jake and stopping him.

The truck seemed to move up in front of me and soon I was jumping on top of it and ripping the top off so that I could sit in the cab. I plopped down, whacked Jake in the head, causing him to become unconscious, and stopped the car.

Jake woke up almost immidietly, reaching over and blindly strangling me, until he realized who I was. My lips were pulled back in a silent growl, and so was his mouth. Then it relaxed and he just startled me, keeping me from ripping his throat out.

“What, do you think your doing?” he asked quietly. The position I was in was strictly uncomfortable, and I wanted to get up, but wasn’t sure if I was in control of myself. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and opened them again.

“This is the second time you have felt the need to sit on me” was all I said, and I was sure that if I could, I’d be blushing.

“I guess it is” he said in a laughing tone. “Are you going to attack me if I let you get up?” he asked skeptically. I smiled as sweet as I could.

“Of course not” I purred. He snickered and got off me, sitting in his seat. I sat up and looked at him. “You will not kill that man.”

“Kill him?” he asked, startled. I just glared at him until comprehension filtered into his expression. “Oh, no! I was just going to erase his memory! You thought I was going to kill him?” he said, very startled. I felt my expression go blank.

“Whaaat?” I asked. Erase his memory? What?

“Yeah, I can do that, you know, control the human brain” he said, searching my expression. I slumped in my seat, letting out a huff.

“Well, that was a waste of time” I said, staring out the window. He laughed.

“Yeah, and now we’ve lost him, although I’m pretty sure no one is going to believe him” he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. I felt stupid. How could I think that he would kill a man? Then again, I really didn’t know him all that well.

“So… are we going to get my stuff, or what?” I asked casually.

“Its right here” he said, lifting my bag. I stared at it wondering how, and deciding not to ask. I’d had enough information for today.

“So why did we need my stuff, anyway?” I asked as he turned the truck around, heading toward the road. “I was doing just fine in the woods” I said, and then remembering the grocery store I added, “Thanks for the money, by the way.”

“Your welcome. And as to your question, you will be staying with me, I’ve got a guest bedroom you can use,” he said, looking away from me, avoiding my gaze. I was speechless until we got to his house.

“You don’t have to do that” I whispered, half embarrassed and half full of gratitude. “I can find a place to live, you don’t have to take care of me.” He looked over at me as we got out of the car.

“Of course I’m not going to take care of you, your not a child” he said, as if this should be obvious. Then there was an obvious pause, “You are staying with me because, frankly, you need protection, missy” he said as we walked inside. I frowned, momentairaly confused.

“From what, humans? I think I can handle myself” I said while going to put my stuff away.

“Your so silly, Shells! No not from humans, from the vampires that are going to try to get you” his voice was muffled because of the walls. Oh yeah, I thought.

“Oh” was all I said, not wanting to dwell on the subject. Moving in with Jake seemed pretty reasonable since he gave me that idea, but I wondered if that was really the reason I was moving in. Maybe he had another motive… I smiled to myself. Of course that wasn’t it. I walked back out and sat on the counter.

    “Yeah.”

    “Uh-huh.”

    “So…” he trailed off.

    “So?”

“Whatchya wanna do?” he asked, eyeing the floor. I thought about that for a minute, and finally dicided on something.

“Watch a movie? You got any good ones?” I asked heading toward the living room. I heard him follow.

“Yeah, but none that you’d like” he said while opening a cuppard full of movies.

“How can you be so sure?” I asked jokingly.

    “I just know.”

“Okay! Well, do you have any scary ones?” I asked, wanting to be distracted from my life, which was kind of like a horror film. He reached for one and put it in while I sat on the love seat, which was the only furniture that had a good view of the TV.

“This is really scary, I gotta warn you” Jake said while sitting next to me. Right next to me. I looked over, seeing perfectly well in the dark room, and felt my breath quicken. He was really attractive. Not that “oh he’s so cute!” way, but in the “Oh my god I want to rip his clothes off” kind of way. I looked down to see that our legs were almost touching.

The movie started and I tried to focus on it, but I was very aware of Jake sitting next to me. I tried to sit farther away but couldn’t. I took a deep breath. I knew that if any of him touched me I would loose it and attack him. That would probably not go over well with him.

The movie ended up being very scary, as I was warned. I kept jumping in my seat and almost touching Jake. Every time I did that Jake let go a little snicker.

Finally, the gory movie was over and the credits were rolling on the screen. I had done it! I had made it through the movie without attacking Jake. I siletntly applauded myself.

    I spoke too soon.

Just then I felt Jake stretch, and this caused him to press up against me. Then he turned toward me and I looked into his eyes. I lost all train of thought, and started to lean toward him at the same time he leaned toward me. His eyes asked the silent question.

    Mine must of answered yes.

His lips crashed down on mine and I reached for his neck. His hands grabbed my waist and started to lean even closer. Soon enough he was pressed against me and still pushing, causing me to switch positions and soon I was laying on the love seat, with Jake on top of me.

I kissed him without a thought in my mind. His hands were exploring my stomach, not pushing my boundries, which I found nice. I kissed him deeply, closing my eyes so I could just feel.

Then I remembered the last time I had kissed someone. I stopped kissing Jake, and after a few seconds his lips and hands froze. His head rose to look at me questionly. I was stuck in the memory, it replaying and replaying.

“Whats wrong?” he asked anxiously, “Did I hurt you?” he asked. I just kept staring. Finally I could speak.

“No you didn’t hurt me” I whispered. I needed a distraction, and fast. I pulled his lips back to mine, and after a second he started kissing me, but cautiously. I needed a distraction!

I moved his hands from their place on my cheeks lower until they met their target. He gasp, but it got the reaction I needed. He kissed me faster, deeper until my thoughts were gone again.

He rolled over, moving me under him, without breaking the kiss. His hands began exploring again, and I smiled. This felt nice. His hands traveled down, then up again, this time under my tee-shirt. I froze momentairaly, but then picked it up again. No need to be upset, this is what I wanted.

His hand found its mark and just stayed still. My hands were pulling his hair and messing it up. It was silky and smooth; felt good to the touch. Finally all thoughts of the memory were washed away and I was ready to be done, but didn’t know how to stop.

I touched his face, and then pushed gently. He lifted his head, gasping. I smiled at him, then reached to where his hand was, and nudged it downward, hinting that he should move it. He laughed and removed his hand, getting up. I sat up and looked at him.

“Night” I said with a smile and began to go to my room, laughing silently.

“What, that’s it? ‘Oh great kiss, good night!’” he asked jokingly. I turned around, leaning on the door and smiled suggestively.

“I want to keep you wanting more,” I said simply. “Always leave them wanting more.” I went into my room, and leaned against the door to close it. I smiled while closing my eyes, touching my lips. Jake.
