• Maggie ran around, sniffing between trees and under leaf litter. She had mostly left Cloud and Ellie and ventured out on her own. While she had little to no book smarts, she was smart about living in the woods, and was an expert hunter of small animals. She stopped, sniffed the wind, and dashed through a dry riverbed.

Maggie was hunting, and kept all her senses alert as she ran, listening for the slightest movement, sniffing for the faintest trail, and looking for the smallest movement. A gopher saw her and ducked into a hole. Sensing it immediately, she turned on one paw, sending up leaf litter around her, and dove towards the hole. She shoved her head into it and sniffed.
The scent of fear was thick in the hole. She could smell, the gopher was a male, and old. She began to dig furiously, her paws becoming thick with black dirt, and death approaching the gopher with every swipe of her paw. After minutes of digging, Maggie panted heavily. but she didn't stop. The gopher was just beyond her reach. It would take less than a minute for her to dig it out. She looked into the hole. She grinned to herself, and continued to dig. The gopher, however, had other ideas. It made a run for it's life, right between Maggie's legs. But Maggie was faster. She stepped on it with her back paw, and whirled around. She grabbed the neck in her teeth, and one shake and bite later, the gopher was hers. She looked around for anything that might want her kill, and slunk away to her secret spot.
