• A couple were taking a ride through the countryside in their car. It was getting late, and the narrow, windy country lanes were getting darker when there was a spluttering, choking noise, and suddenly, the car lurched to the side and stopped, smoke leaking from under the bonnet.
"Dammit" said the man. "I'll just get out to check it."
His wife watched as he walked round to the front of the car and lifted the bonnet. Smoke rushed out, and he withdrew for a second, choking, before waving the smoke away and disappearing back behind the bonnet.
Ten minutes later, the sky was dark, and the hedges on either side of the road were pitch black. The man emerged from the bonnet, closing it before pulling open the car door.
"I'm really sorry, I have no idea what's gone wrong."
"Well, what should we do? My phone battery's dead."
"I saw a house a mile back up the road, I'll go up there and see if anyone can help us. Okay?"
"Yeah, sure." She passed him the small pentorch they had in the footwell.
"That doesn't work," he said, handing it back. He slammed the door shut again and the set off towards the back of the car, heading back the way they had come.
Twenty minutes later, when he still wasn't back, the woman was worried. To try and distract herself, she turned on the radio.
    *Crackle*
...in the early hours of this morning. Police have launched a full scale search for the escaped mental patient, but have had no luck so far. Police have also advised against anyone trying to approach the man, as he is considered extremely dangerous..
Crackling filled the car for a full minute, before the static cleared.
...so anyone in that area of the country should be on full alert for any strangers approaching them. Anyone staying up are advised to close all windows, and turn off all the lights.
In other news, the political debate has reached...
As the woman reached out and turned the radio off, she realised her hand was shaking.
Half an hour passed, and there was still no sign of the man returning. The woman had moved to the back seat, and was crouched in the footspace, feeling a fool yet unable to bring herself to move until her husband returned.
A further ten minutes passed before the silence was broken by anything but the womans breath. It started as a strange whine in the distance, but soon she could discern more than one siren, getting louder by the second. Suddenly the sirens stopped, and she could hear shouts, and then suddenly, on the roof of her car, a bang. She shrieked, and hid her head in her arms. There were more shouts. Another bang. The shouts stopped, but the banging continued. There was a tap on the window, and she looked up. There a man's face there. She reluctantly sat up, and saw he was wearing a police uniform. He was lit by a huge light on the road to the right. She opened the door, and he helped her out.
    "What's going on?"
    He didn't answer her.
    "What's happened?"
"Walk to that light, and don't turn around."
She began to walk, although how she managed it, she didn't know. She could still hear the banging behind her. She got halfway before her curiosity took over.
"What is that?" she said to herself, turning around.
She tripped and fell over. Her scream split the night air. In front of her, not twenty paces away, on the roof of her car, illuminated by the bright light behind her, a ghastly scene was taking place. A man dressed all in white was crouched on the roof of her car, a mad, twisted smile on his face, banging her husband's head on the roof.
    Bang. Bang.
