• I had to find her. She was the only person that could solve the investigation. I asked around, and found out where she was supposed to be. It was an island, and not a big one. It just had a tiny little town, and I thought she would be easy to find. So, of course, she wasn't there. I asked around some more, and found that a man who knew her location lived on an even tinier island nearby. The catch? No boats would go within a hundred feet of the place, and only a few would go that far. But I couldn't fail. I had to find her. I didn't know what would happen if I didn't, and I didn't want to find out. Can you guess the only option left to me? That's right- swimming. Luckily, I'm a strong swimmer and endurance is pretty much a requirement for my job. I thought maybe I was up to the task. I started out just fine, but the farther away from shore, the higher the waves. I was maybe halfway there, and already more tired than I have ever been in my life. Waves crashed over my head, and I was pulled under the water. I couldn't breathe. I choked on water. I will never forget the feeling. I can't believe it. I'm going to die, I thought. I was getting dizzy. I lost conciousness. When I awoke, I knew instictively that I was in a building on the island to which I had previously been heading. I was lying on the floor. I stood up looked around. I was in a large room, and in front of me was a t-shaped hall. I walked forward and turned to the left at the end of the hall. There was a door. I opened it and entered. Most of the room was taken up by a large bed, which was filled with a large, bald man who, judging by his lavish red silk robe, was very wealthy. Without preamble he said sounding frightened, "Sometimes I hear strange noises. Almost ghost-like. Especially when I turn the lights off." For some inexplicable reason, I decided I had to test this. I walked out into the hall and searched for the light switch, finding it on the left side of the door. I turned off the lights.
