• The Music From the Graveyard: A Hidan Love Story

    Playground School Bell Rings,
    Again…
    Rain Clouds Come to Play,
    Again…

I found him that day. The day I needed someone the most, I found him. Well, it’s more like he found me. I was in the graveyard again, like I always am. I was crying, again, like I always am. And I was singing, again, like I always am.

I don’t know what made that day different then any other day.

Maybe it was the graveyard I was in. I had been on a mission for my village and whenever I go anywhere I always find the graveyard and pay my respects to the dead and the spirits that may be there. That day I found a make-sift graveyard in the forest for those lost in a battle.

I don’t really know why I was crying, but I was. Each grave I see affects me differently, depending on how they died. I may not know how they died but it’s like something inside me does know.

Something inside of me knew these people had suffered and it hurt.

    It really hurt…

I knelt down at those graves and cried while I sang. I tried to hide the pain I felt for them.

I didn’t want to feel their pain, but I couldn’t bring myself to leave. Then I looked at my pendant. It looked like a heart with a lock in it that had been stitched together from being broken so many times.

Something moved behind me catching my attention. I looked over my shoulder and got up to see what it was, but I didn’t see anything. I knew something was there, but I didn’t know what was there. So I continued to sing softly as I walked away from the graves.

    Has No one told you
    She’s not breathing

Then hours later, I saw him, a man with silver hair in a black cloak. I could see him clearly, but I couldn’t believe what I saw. He looked like the kid I knew from my past. This kid with pure silver hair, he was always cold and on his own. If you came to close, he would threaten to kill you. But he always let me get closer then anyone else. He looked at me and my heart stopped. It really looked like him. Could it be? Was my mind playing tricks on me?

    Hello, I am your mind
    Giving you someone
    To talk to,
    Hello…

He took a step towards me and I took a small step back. He kept me locked in his gaze as he stepped towards me. For every step he took towards me, I took one step back, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to know if it was him. If he were to stop me, I don’t know what I would stay to him. I don’t know what I would do. I want to believe it’s him. But I don’t want to make a mistake because, I don’t want to say the one thing I always hide. I turned and ran from him. If it was him, I would want to tell him something, but I don’t know if it’s him. If only I knew who he was. He stopped me though. He stepped in front of me and grabbed me by the shoulders.

“Why were you staring at me?” He asked.

    “I- I wasn’t staring at you.” I stuttered

    “Oh really?” He asked.

    “Really…” I whispered, looking down.

“Then how did u know I was coming towards you and not just going to walk past you?” I looked at him, and then looked down. “That’s what I thought. Now, tell me, why were you staring at me?”

“You just… remind me a lot of someone I used to know.”

“What is your name?” he asked. I didn’t want to answer, but I whispered a reply.

“Everyone calls me Song…” I whispered.

“What is your REAL name?” He sounded irritated.

“My name… is Tara.” He turned my head to look at him.

    “Tara?”

    “Yeah.”

“That name sounds, familiar…” He stared into my eyes. “You look familiar too…”

    If I smile and don’t
    Believe…

“What is your name?” I asked softly.

    “Hidan.” He stated.

    “Hidan?” I questioned.

“Yeah. Why?” I smiled slightly, I just couldn’t believe it! It was Hidan, my childhood friend and the one I fell in love with.

“It really is you…” I whispered. He looked confused.

“Don’t you remember me? It’s me, Tara-chan, your songbird.” He shook his head. I frowned.

“I guess you don’t remember.” I smiled. “That’s ok though. I didn’t expect you to remember.” I moved out from in front of him. “I guess I’ll just have to live alone just like before.” I quickly walked away.

    Soon I know I’ll wake,
    From this dream…

The next day I was at the graveyard again. I was going to be leaving that town soon and I wanted to pay my respects once more. Then I heard someone call my name. I turned and saw Hidan.

    “Oh… hello…” I whispered.

    “Tara…”

    “Yes?”

“I remember now… I remember you… I remember the days when we were little. I remember.” I smiled.

“I’m glad you remember. I really am. I was hoping I would get to see you again, after everything that happened and… you leaving…” I guess I had a sad look in my eyes or something because Hidan gave me that sad look he used to give me whenever I looked sad.

“Tara, you really missed me when I left, didn’t you?” He asked, walking over to me.

“Yeah, I really did. You were the only friend I really had. Then when you left, everything just seemed to go wrong. I lost you, then I lost Sara and the rest of my family. Everything seemed to go wrong. The missions I did when you first left were failures because I was always thinking about you, I was worried about you… I was afraid that I would never see you again…” Hidan reached out and stroked my blue/gray hair.

    Don’t try to fix me
    I’m not broken

“You never have to worry about me. I told you that before I left.”

“I know you did… but I couldn’t help it because…” I cut myself off. He didn’t know I loved him and I didn’t want him to know. I didn’t want him to think that I was weak because of something that could never be complete.

    “Because why?” He asked.

“Because…” I shook my head. I just couldn’t say it.

    “Tell me Tara.”

    “… I can’t… I just can’t…”

“You can tell me anything, just like before.” I shook my head.

“I couldn’t tell you then, and I still can’t tell you now.” I started to walk away. “I can’t tell you the truth. I never could tell you the truth about that. I was, and still am, too afraid to tell you the truth. The thing that makes me worry about you is something that almost broke me when you left. But I’m alright, but I will remain alright, as long as you don’t know the truth.” I whispered before walking away.

    Hello, I am the Lie
    Living for you
    So you can hide…

Hidan stopped me, pulling me back into his arms. My face turned a light shade of red.

“Tara, would you be willing to come with me?” He asked.

“Come with you where?” I questioned, keeping my voice down.

“Back to the Akatsuki.” I quickly stepped away, giving Hidan a confused look.

“The Akatsuki?” I questioned, taking a small step back. “You’re part of the Akatsuki?” Hidan nodded while I took another small step back. The look on my face said it all. I was surprised. I didn’t think Hidan would ever become one of them. He threatened to kill all the time but that doesn’t make someone an S-ranked criminal, does it?

    “Hidan, I---“

“I know, you never wanted me to be this way. I know you always pleaded me not to kill. But I had to. Now I’m in the one place you never wanted me to be.” Hidan actually sounded like he was sad.

“Hidan… why do you sound so sad?”

“Because, I only wanted to be someone you could love… but I couldn’t stay…” His voice was soft and pained. I approached Hidan slowly.

    Don’t cry…

“You still can be.” I whispered, hugging Hidan when I was close enough. “You still can be, because I still love you…” Hidan seemed surprised when I said that. It was like he didn’t think it could be. He gave me a small pained look, showing me he didn’t think I was telling him the truth. I wrapped my arms around Hidan’s neck and pulled him close and kissed him, letting all my feeling show. I pulled away and looked at him.

“Hidan, I wouldn’t lie to you about something like this.” I told him, keeping my voice soft. “And if you want me to go with you back to the Akatsuki, then I’ll go with you, but I won’t let you leave me behind again.”

    “Tara…”

“Shh…” I stared at him for a moment. “Just tell me one thing, do you want me to come with you?” He nodded.

    Suddenly I know
    I’m not sleeping

I smiled. Then I looked from him to the graves. I didn’t feel the pain I felt before anymore. The pain was just a dull pain in my chest, instead of the huge engulfing pain it was before. I couldn’t hold back a smile. I looked at my pendant but all I found was the chain around my neck. The heart was gone.

“Hey Hidan… do you remember seeing the pendant I always wear?”

“Pendant? What pendant? I haven’t seen you wear a pendant since you lost your mother’s pendant on that mission when we were little.”

“You mean you never saw the pendent I’ve been wearing?”

    “Yeah.”

“Shh… It’s alright.” I heard. It was like this soft voice. Hidan didn’t seem to hear it. I looked around trying to find the source of the voice.

    “What the---“

“Don’t be alarmed.” The voice was soft, but it could clearly be heard to me.

    “You ok, Tara-chan?” Hidan asked.

    “I don’t know…” I replied softly.

“You have done what was asked of you.” I sat down on the ground and listen closely to the voice in my head. “The spirits have been glad to have your company. They will wait patiently for you to come to the realm of the dead, but for now, live freely in the knowledge that I and the spirits of my realm are in your debt. Live and let your music continue to calm the spirits that have not yet come to my care. Farewell Tara…” The voice faded into nothing and I looked at the graves. I didn’t feel their pain anymore.

“Hidan,” I whispered. “Let’s go.” I said getting up and taking his hand in mine. “Let’s go before my team comes looking for me.” Hidan nodded and started leading me away from the graveyard. I smiled. I was with him now, and nothing could take that from me. Not now, not ever. And it all started with my music, coming from the graveyard.

    Hello, I am still here
    All that’s left of
    Yesterday…
