• Prologue

As the Civil War in America came to an end, and workers became fed up with how their bosses treated them; the world had come about a great change. Steam, before that time, was the primary power source for only a handful of machines. The world would go through a period of great chaos and experimentation. Revolts were lead against unfair business practices, and the Brits were experimenting on the limitations of steam power; they pushed it to the limits.

The Brits saw a new age dawning, and by 1887, the Americans were joining in. The Americans were working hard to find new ways to use Steam. They began to even make steam weapons and, in the later years, aircraft. The Americans became the driving force behind the push for Steam as a major fuel source. America and their old British friends became a large influence in to the years to come. They forged not only a new world, but would soon forge their destinies. The Great Steam Era had begun, and the First Great War followed with the invasion of Belgium. The grand show of the Steam Era’s children was put on display. The war would end in 1918, with the Germans being blamed for the war. Germany would be forced to pay back more money than they had, which would cause them to panic and over-produce their Deutsch Marks; their money would soon become worthless, and their economy slowly spiral downwards.

In little time, the people began to see the destruction and prosperity this new era would bring. Destruction leads to a velvet field, but also breathes creation. The inventions during the war would benefit armies and civilization. The major advancement was that of the Sky Navy; large airships, powered and kept afloat by steam, held fighter planes and were flying fortresses. The lesser Aero-Nautiluses – the real name to the flying fortresses – were approximately 1800 feet long, carried a few fighter planes, and were armed with ten to eighteen light machineguns, and two A.A. Flak cannons. Tanks came in to the scene, as well. They varied from light-weight and low caliber, to heavy and highly offensive; the downfalls of them being that the early models were clumsy, and some would break down easily. Besides breaking down, their threads needed to be replaced every some 50-100 miles, and a direct shot at the engine would boil the crew with its pressurized steam. They were a work in progress, and would eventually become a valuable asset on the battlefield.

The experimentation in to new tank designs would be put on pause as the American government hit hard times in 1929. The stock market dropped, and in a misguided attempt for people to secure their fortunes, they withdrew more money than the banks could let go. The American economy slowed, and people began to see yet another issue as the Midwest’s farms were ravished by malnourished soil, causing a large dust storm. In another country, the same had – in a way – happened to it because of The First Great War; it was Germany. Germany, by 1933, now had a man telling his people he could change everything. He was charismatic, and could persuade nearly anyone with his words. The man behind it was an Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler had been after Germany for a long time, and finally had his grubby hands around it. He began to do unspeakable acts against anyone he said wasn’t part of the Perfect Race. What he did can be described as no more than distasteful, psychotic, and an abomination.

His country followed him without knowing the consequences that were to come. As in the first Great War – as this would turn in to yet another – the Germans invaded France through Belgium. They would then take to Russia, stabbing the great Stalin in the back. Russia would be devastated; her children would be undaunted, begging to strike back. Britain would be in shambles as the Luftwaffe bombarded it. America kept itself isolated from the war, trying to stay out of it as much as possible. They were told early on that they would be attacked, but by the time it happened, preparations were too late. A secret attack launched by the Japanese forces would cripple the naval base of Pearl Harbor. Along with the water base, the Pearl Harbor Sky Navy fleet would suffer the loss of an Aero-Nautilus Super-Carrier, and two Aero-Nautilus Battle Cruisers.

The American Armed Forces would retaliate, sending troops to the Western and Eastern Fronts. In the Eastern Front, they stormed the beaches of Normandy. Large casualties were counted, due mostly to the MG-42; a light machinegun that was deadly and accurate, and was nicknamed as ‘Hitler’s Buzzsaw’. Bombardment from Naval vessels hammered inland from the beaches, clearing some way in to Normandy. As the Eastern front was closing its hold on to Germany, the Western front was in some despair. The mud and hot temperatures made going through the islands they had occupied very unpleasant. They accepted what came, as it was their job to fight for the nation. In the Eastern front, Germany saw its last sunrise. It was surrounded by the Allied Forces, and Hitler decided nothing else but to commit suicide.

In the Western front, it was still the same; mud, water, rain, and high temperatures. The government of the United States saw no other choice. A weapon created by a German refugee and other scientist was their last hope at stopping the war. The bomb created was like that of the era it belonged to. It was capable of creating steam, but by super-heating the water molecules in a seven-mile radius. The first time it was tested, it was unsure whether it would go off and show what it could do, or if it would super-heat the Earth’s atmosphere and cause Earth to become a huge oven. With the surrender of the Axis powers in German on May 7th, it was time for the surrender of Japan. Japan would reject the ultimatum to surrender, and President Harry S. Truman would request the dropping of Little Boy and Fat Man.

Not long after the last bomb was dropped, Japan saw the devastation and made their surrender. The war was over and the world began to return to normal. The nations of the world got together and the United States presented a new for all of the nations to come together. Their idea was the 'World Government'. The idea was an up and down for many. Their proposal was to either join, or keep to your own nations. The World Goverment grew over the nations. The nations that denied to join were given the right to their own government; but will be interveined if the World Government disapproves of any immoral or unethical procedures.

The world was relatively peaceful, except for those few ethnic rivalries. A man once said, in a sense, that if we 'don't study and learn of our past, we are, in a way, destined to repeat it.' Sadly, even in those words of wisdom, some people just never learn...
