• Chapter 1

“Viviana hurry up or your going to be late”
“I’m coming, I’m coming.” I yelled. “It’s not like we have to be there in 2 minutes.”
I swear its so hard to believe that she’s my mother. Sometimes I wonder if she really is or not. I took one quick look in the mirror approving my appearance for my first day at school. If only my skin wasn’t so white maybe I’d fit in more at school.

“VIVIANA” She screamed at me “Hurry up or you can walk to school.”

That caught my attention and I ran down the stairs out the door and in the car before I could even think. “How did I?” I shook my head to get the thought out. I always jump to conclusions, I mean look at my mother there’s no way I could possibly be anything other than a light skinned, dark haired girl.

“Are you nervous?” Mom asks interrupting my thoughts

“No mom I’m not nervous.” I looked at her “Why?”

“Oh you just had a look on your face that made me wonder”

“I was thinking about something that’s all”

She looks at me with a curious look. “Well what was it?”

I smile. “Nothing mom just my imagination again.” She pulled into the school parking lot.

“You need me to come in with you or do you know where to go?” She started unbuckling her seat belt and started to get out.

“NO! No mom I’m fine all I have to do is just go pick up my schedule in the office I’ll be fine I promise. It’s not like it’s the first time we’ve moved and I had to transfer.”

“Well I guess your right. All right have fun.”
I got out of the car waved at her and walked into the school. Now lets see here was the office to the right or to the left….UGH! I should have come to orientation. Or at least met up with Max somewhere so he could have showed me around the school. I can’t believe how much the school has changed since my freshman year.

“You lost?” A deep voice asked from behind me

“Oh no.” I turned around to stare into the chocolate brown eyes of a very familiar face. “You know just looking for my idiot best friend to see if he wanted to walk to the office with me.”

He smiled “Oh really so what’s he look like maybe I could help you find him.”

“Tall, Tan skin, brown hair, brown eyes.” I smiled

He put his arms around me and hugged me. “I’ve missed you.”

I returned the hug. “I’ve missed you to.” Someone cleared their throat. We both turned to see a teacher staring. I backed out of his arms. “Come on I have to go get my schedule before the bell rings.”

“Ah Ms.Viviana Dakkashi. I was beginning to wonder if you got lost.” The woman looked up and was shocked. “Oh Mr. McAlister I didn’t know you and Ms.Dakkashi were so close.”

He smiled. “Yeah we go way back. She needs her schedule and a map of school.” The bell ringed telling the kids they were late to class. He bent down to look her directly into the eyes. Turning on the charm of course. “And maybe we could possibly get so excuse notes for being tardy I’m sure I could take her to her first class.”

“Well I…I don’t see why I couldn’t do that. Please just sit down and I’ll be right back with your schedule and a map.” She disappeared behind a door.

I slapped the back of his head. “Ouch!.” He rubbed his head “What was that for?”

“You being annoying and make her nervous.” I looked at him. “But thank you.”

He looked at me. “Well what do you expect? I’m not going to let you get in trouble on your fist day….Plus I’d never hear the end of it from my mom.”
