Anna lept out of her tiny, wooden chair to race out of the room before Mr. Alden could remind her of the missing work. Halfway to the door, there was a hard yank on her hair that sent her tumbling backwards into Cody. As he reached out to catch her, he stepped on her hair by accident, pulling her head straight to the ground. All she could see now was his outstretched hand and beautiful, round, blue eyes. She grabbed onto him and pulled herself up.
There was some dreadful buzz she heard in the back of her mind. She ignored it, entranced by the smell of Cody's crazy curly hair.
His golden hair… it's like a beautiful… beautiful… OH everything about him is beautiful! she thought.
The buzz was forming into separate syllables now… And growing louder.
"Anna," a calm, yet, disturbed voice cautioned,"are you alright?"
She turned, still cradled in Cody's arms, to find herself staring right at Mr. Alden's awful, pink, plump nose. Shifting her gaze further up his face, she found his two black eyes. After his nose, they seemed almost too small for his face. Cody's arms dropped to gather his things and he left with the rest of the class.
"I'm… I'm fine," Anna managed. She was very confused and was starting to feel embarrassed about the way she acted when Cody tried to help. He probably noticed her staring and wouldn't want to talk to her for a while.
"Good. I didn't mean to hurt you, I just wanted to get your attention. So, where is that late homework?"
Anna tried to look surprised, even though she knew it was coming. "I… um… I will get it in to you tomorrow, sir," she said quietly.
"You promised me that three days ago, Miss Anna. I wouldn't want to have to lose you to the headmasters. Once your hair is cut, you know, you aren't accepted as a student here, anymore… which means," he gave her a shy, almost pitiful glance," you will be disposed to outside. And who knows what's out there,"
"I am aware of the consequences, sir. I promise I will have it by tomorrow."
    "Good."
    "Good."
Mr. Alden glared at her. "Goodbye, Miss Anna.'
