• We ran down the beach with joy. I ran by the waves with my dog, Neshia, and we felt the waves crashing at us. The sand was soggy, but we didn't care. Her ears flopped in the wind as we ran.
We finally stopped and lay on the sand. She wagged her tail back and forth while I brushed her fur with my hand. She then looked at me, with her hazelnut eyes, and then looked at my handbag. I could tell she wanted some of my steak-treats I had made for her, so I opened my bag and got a treat out.
I held my palm out so she could retrieve her treat.
She nibbled the last of it and looked at the sun. It was setting and I could tell she wanted to go home, so we walked along the dark beach, side to side, and finally got to my bike. I picked her up and put her in my basket I had attached to my bike. She wagged her tail as I got on and then I pedaled my bike to our house. She stuck her head and tounge out of the basket.

"Melody, did you have fun at the beach?" My mother asked me, while cutting up tomatoes.
    "Yeah." I replied.
"Good." She said, adding tomatoes to the salad.
I smiled and then walked up the stairs to my room. Neshia followed me. She pretty much follows me everywhere. I walked to my room and lay on my bed. Neshia jumped up on the bed and lay next to me. I brushed her fur and she wagged her tail. The evening went by fastly and the room grew dark.
Then all of a sudden, Neshia was growling. She started barking, but I couldn't figure out why. I then heard a scream. My heart beated faster. Neshia went out of the room and went down the stairs. I stayed; I was too afraid.
Then I heard a gunshot. My heart stopped. I peeked down the stairs to see blood. Lots of it. Then, at the corner of my eye, I saw Neshia. She was bloody, then she fell to the floor...
My parents were on the floor, dripping with blood. I sobbed and my knees hit the floor. The last thing I heard was Neshia whimpering very softly, and a gunshot...
