• It takes an overcast night
when the moon is barely visible
for me to notice how much further away
    the clouds really are
    when I'm looking for stars
    to wish you back home.

We could sit on the front steps
    and imagine the constellations
    were just giving us privacy,
    drawing our future
    from behind God's curtain.

I'll leave a note in the mailbox
just in case the sky clears
    and you stop by early
while I sleep off the feeling
    that this moon
    will never sink.
