• The dark streets linger, deep and long,
But it's the people there who don't belong.

Each one of them has a horrid tale,
One of strife or one of fail.

Whether drugs, or hate, or alcohol,
There is a story for one and all.

But ask yourself, do you really care?
    About those people suffering there?

Or are you afraid when they kneel,
And beg for change for their next meal?

Then you stop and think, "What if they
Don't spend the money in the way

that I think is best for their needs?"
Oh, I'm sure that they heed

All your concerns, all your cares,
Of all the jobs for them out there.

But work is scarce, can't you see?
That's what these people really need.

Is but a chance to prove their worth,
And through that fact we can unearth

    Everthing we need to see
About the hope in a beggar's plea.

One small light in a darkened room,
    Resonates like a sonic boom.

We don't see what happens past,
So we usually have to ask

Did they spend it all? Did they spend it wise?
Or was their need full of lies?

It is said, "Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day,"
But some read that and are led astray.

"Teach a man to fish, and he'll never starve"
But the facts about this are always enlarged.

The truth about that is as simple as this,
The man only eats if he catches the fish.

If the fish doesn't even take the time,
To hook the bait or pull the line,

Then we would've done a greater good,
If we had simply given him the food.

If everyone has a chance to be,
Why can the shouts be heard by we?

Who say we love, who say we care
But in the truth, we wouldn't dare

Lend a helping hand to those
That need our help so much it shows.

Yet here we sit with clenched up fists,
Wondering who in the world can tackle this.

The problem solved will never be,
    It's a problem throughout history.

The least to do can be done,
Before the setting of the sun.

Before their last breath's at it's end,
We'll give them the chance to live again.
