Brightly painted
Or discrete
A smile on that one
Or a frown
To hide my shameful face behind
I will wear my mask
Like a soldier at war
Like an actor on stage
Receiving arrows and roses, respectively.
But in the end
I will wear
The one underneath
The only one
That everyone dons in the end
And it really gets under my skin:
After all of this hiding,
To be just bare bones in the end.

- This is beautiful - really made me feel something, sloshing contrasting emotions over us to give us the contrasting feelings of life, only to remind us of our ultimately vulnerability and powerless in the end. I really like this, it's one of those poems I would like to read again and again. I would love to see the final version.
