The Overall Story Arc is the following:

Shinigami are patrolling for Hollow and Guiding Spirits to the Soul Society.
Humans are just trying to live their day to day.
Hollows are behaving per usual; Devour, Grow, Rule.
Bount; Ruling over the established territory of Porta Cresca, and plotting revenge against the Soul Society.
Quincy; A life of quiet solitude and patrolling for Hollow when Shinigami are either absent or a threat is immanent.
Modified Souls; Some pills have found their way into bodies, and now forgotten projects are coming to life and coming to terms with the fact that they were nearly destroyed by their maker. Some have even melded into Human society and try to live normal lives.
