In the year 2141 the World was on the verge of war. Many countries were bolstering defenses and drafting troops for battle what would likely ensue. No sign of peace was in sight, and everyone knew things would have to be solved the hard way.

A group of scientists working for the US military decided to develop a way to boost the army through science. They came up with several ideas for weapons and yet, none of it seemed needed. We had many ways to kill already. From that thought, one got an idea. What if they devised a way to keep soldiers alive? Give them a way to survive fatal conditions? The idea caught on, and thus was the beginning of the Immortal Project.

They worked tirelessly until they finally created a virus, more so like a parasite that did just what they wanted. they were injected into 10 subjects, mostly death row inmates, and all ten were stabbed and left alone. They all died. The experiment was repeated after modifications to the virus. This time 3 of the subjects died. Another 3 survived the stab but got violently ill and died. Another 2 got violently ill but survived. And yet another two survived the stab with little repercussions. Altough it wasn't perfect, they had 4 survivors. 2 of which showed the characteristic of hardened skin. They had more or less succeeded. Or so they thought...

About an hour later, the bodies of the dead test subjects reanimated. The scientists unwittingly welcomed this as a late application of the virus's power. Sadly, they had created zombies. But it was too late, the Researchers were bitten, one by one they met the same fate. One of the inmates who survived tried to escape, only to be caught and killed after opening the door. Now no one was left alive who knew what happened. To make matters worse, reports of the virus were passed on to the British shortly before the incident. They had no clue of what happened. Nor did the Japanese and Russian spies whom stole some biological reports soon after.

The escaped undead found their way into the nearest city. They were considered sick and were admitted into the city's hospitals. Thus the first to turn we're the city's doctors, nurses, wounded, and elderly. Then people on the streets got bitten. Meanwhile, in other countries, the similar incidents occurred in labs in Russia, Japan, Britain, and Germany, whom had stolen a few bio reports soon after the transfer. Zombies ran rampant through the streets, local law enforcement couldn't contain them. The news came in chunks due the death of unwitting reporters. Very few people knew what was truly going on until it was too late. Those that did holed up with their families and prepared for the apocalypse. but those who were uninformed were taken down along their families, friends, and coworkers. The pandemic got so serious that the governements sent in their own armies to combat the crisis. Although they did reduce the overall number of zombies, even the army was overwhelmed by their resilience.

This story starts just before the military was deployed. None of the characters currently know that society as they know it, will come crashing down in blood and flames.
