A year after XIII, Xavier remains dead to the mutant world. Ororo Munroe has been left in charge of the Institute and the X-Men. Magneto, having regained his powers, has begun construction on his mutant paradise - Genosha. The government has grown increasingly frightened of the mutant community and has resorted to creating the Mutant Response Division, known as the dreaded MRD. The force acts a 'mutant police force', rounding up 'dangerous' mutants and bringing them to a private government facility in an unknown location. It is believed this is both for security and experimentation on mutants. The X-Men have been inactive since Xavier's death. Many mutants now think that they have been abandoned by their former heroes. Random attacks have begun to occur against the MRD. Neither the X-Men nor the Brotherhood are thought to be responsible. Mutants now appear to be acting on their own in the name of justice. Only time will tell if these vigilantes will join forces and create the newest fighting force.
As the lines begin to blur between friend and foe, there is only one option left. Defend yourself.
