Ferrets are not rodents. They belong to the family Mustelidae which includes such animals as skunks, polecats, and weasles. The latin name for ferret is Mustela Furo or theiving weasel. As soon as one of these little fuzzies enters your life they're sure to steal your heart.

Ferrets spend 14 to 18 hours a day sleeping and are naturally crepuscular, meaning they are most active during dusk and dawn.

The average life span of a well-cared-for ferret is between 6 to 8 years.

An altered female ferret weighs between 3/4ths of a pound to 2 1/2 pounds. An altered male normally weighs between 2 and 3 pounds. An unaltered male can weigh anywhere from 4 to 6 pounds or more!

Ferrets have been domesticated for about 2,500 years.
