The young Private set his suitcase down on one of the unoccupied cots, moving over to the old wooden desk under the one window in the room and setting down a very large bird cage, with a brilliant red cardinal inside of it.
A few moments later, two servants were bringing in stacks of books, placing them on top of the desk. By the time they were finished, there were at least 4 and a half stacks of books on, or around the desk. They said their good-byes, and left the young Private.
Adrian was very petite for being a male, though his face and eyes could be very intimidating. He was only about 5'3" tall, and he had slender limbs, his long white-blonde hair tied up into a sloppy ponytail. He wore a black Officer's uniform, even though he was a Private. He was only able to manage that because he was the General's son.

Adrian sighed, looking out the window, one hand rested atop the cardinal's bird cage. "I can't believe the Captain is forcing me to share a room..." He said softly to himself, reaching down and slipping a cigarette from his pocket, placing it between his lips and lighting it. He took a long drag and exhaled before sitting down at the desk.
He grabbed a book from the stack and set it down in front of him, opening it up and reading the pages inside. It seemed that most, if not all of the books he'd brought with him were related to War in some way.

Dominik was looking forward to moving into his new room. Well, one he shared with another. That was why he was looking forward to it. It was someone, he hadn't had the chance to meet before. The name even slipped his mind at the moment. But he felt it was one to remember. Because of relation... Was that it. He wasn't sure, he would find out soon enough though.

All thoughts on what to expect were momentarily put out of Dominik's mind. Having come up to the door that lead to the soon-to-be shared room. He gave a quick few knocks on the door, then he opened it and stepped inside.

A passive expression, an apathetic look. That was what Dominik had as he walked in. His hazel eyes looking to locate his room mate. And quickly finding him. Along with a few other things about his room. The books. But he didn't focus on them, he saw his room mate. Smoking. He didn't like smoking. He put up with it, but he didn't like it. He didn't do so himself, and if he could help it, he would figure out a way to put a stop to it here.

"Hello, I'm Dominik Hardwich," It was only polite to introduce himself, so he did.

Adrian heard the other male entering the room, and even speaking to him, though his eyes were still focused on the book in front of him, reading and smoking away at the cigarette.
At first glance, Adrian didn't appear to be very frightening or intimidating at all, but he was in fact a ticking time bomb, waiting to go off.
"Private Hardwich, you will address me as Private Rainer." He spoke loudly, his voice demanding respect.

"Since we will be rooming together." He said, pausing for a moment to tap the ashes off of his cigarette,"I want to make it quite clear that you may not touch any of my things." He said, still not looking at the Private. He turned a page in his book and exhaled a cloud of smoke, sighing. He furrowed his brow, he was getting so irritated, and he wasn't even quite sure why, perhaps it was because his father and the Captain forced him to room with someone, even though there are plenty of extra rooms.

He finally turned in his chair, glaring at Private Hardwich with light blue eyes, but he didn't say anything at all.

Dominik already thought his roommate was a rude character. Rude, and bossy. Without a doubt. He however, kept his pathetic expression. Tempted to frown at the cigarette he kept smoking. At first he wanted to take it and put it out somewhere. Now as the other male went on, talking as he did, he wanted to take that cigarette and put it out on his skin.

Not a very kind thing to do. Dominik had enough common sense to know that. He was also quite sane. Which was why he didn't speak after seeing he was being glared at for no reason. He did however think it only appropriate to say something. Just nothing inappropriate.

"I will be sure to avoid doing that, and in return," Yes, he thought the least Private Rainer could do was something in return. "I would hope you do the same." He hoped, but really he expected it. He wished he could deliver consequences, but he recognized the name. This young boy here, was related to someone higher up then him. Would he get in trouble if he let something slip. Did something he shouldn't. He wondered.

"You like to smoke." He moved over to Private Rainer, stopping by his side. He did no touching, he simply stood there. Having stated what he saw.

Adrian raised a thin blonde brow as the other was stating the obvious, turning his chair to face the desk once more, his blue eyes scanning the pages of the war book.
"Your point?" He questioned, taking another puff from his cigarette. It was obvious that cigarettes were the one and only vice that Adrian had, and he wasn't going to give it up because his roommate didn't like the smell.
He took a long drag and exhaled a cloud of smoke, finishing his cigarette and lifting one of his boots rubbing it out on the bottom of it before tossing the butt on the floor somewhere.

"Look, Private Hardwich, if you don't like it, you're just going to have to deal with it." He insisted, not looking at the man while speaking. Adrian never really was one to cozy up with people, especially those he just met. In fact, joining the base was the first time he was ever really out in the real world, having been forced to remain on his Father's estate all of his life.

Adrian lifted his head just slightly when he heard the cardinal chirping softly from inside it's cage, the tiniest, most insignificant smile creasing his lips before his expression returned to it's usual void, blank expression.

Dominik could see dealing with Private Rainer would not be a simple task. He needed lots of self-control. He could see already his patience would be tested. He did so dislike the smell of the cigarette. He just kept thinking that, seeing the other Private here finish the very thing he had just want to stuff out earlier.

Deal with it. He told himself that. If only it were so simple. Especially when he had to stay with this...kid. He looked like a kid to him. But regardless of age difference, they were the same rank. And he hoped that didn't change. Well, he didn't mind raising in rank. What he didn't want was this boy, the other Private, to be the boss of him. He was bossy enough as is.

Limits. How he wanted to set them. And he was thinking about it, when he noted what he thought was a smile. A very faint one. Or was he imagining things?

"I think we might have a bit of a problem," He turned and stepped away from Private Rainer. "But if I must deal with it, then so be it." He would try, but only for so long.

"So, you like to read." The books, he was moving on to another subject. "What exactly?" Why not get to know his room mate better.

Adrian huffed, getting irritated with the other soldier speaking to him, turning a page,"Would you mind your own damn business?" He said, sitting up straight and staring down at his book. It was obvious that Adrian had a very short fuse, but it was easily avoided once one knew how to act around Adrian.

It wasn't long before the Captain, Mattias Werner, visited their room. He favored Adrian amongst all the soldiers, mainly because Adrian was supposedly perfect at everything that he did, and he was an unbreakable force of nature.
The Captain wanted to test that "unbreakable force".

There was a knock, and a few moments later, the Captain stepped inside. "Private Hardwich." He said, looking to the dark haired man,"Should you not be on the Obstacle Course with the other soldiers?" He asked, his voice sounding very light and charismatic, with just a hint of authority. He then approached Adrian, Adrian falling very silent and very still upon feeling the Captain's presence so close to him.
"I trust you will do well here, Private Rainer. Please excuse me putting you in a room with another soldier, your father insisted you be with someone at all times because of your mental instability." The Captain said, though Adrian didn't reply at all.

(If you want, you can skip to when Dominick returns from the Obstacle Course, probably around 8-9pm. Adrian will still be studying upon his return.)

[[I'll do that.]]

Dominik went off without a word. Taking off to the Obstacle Course. He knew he should have been out there. He supposed he just let time slip by without him really noticing. That, and his new roommate. But he would keep him out of his mind, until he had to deal with him again.

How long was it until he actually did finish the Obstacle Course? Dominik didn't know. He just knew he went in when it was time for him to. Heading back to his room. Where he figured his room mate would still be. And he found he wasn't disappointed.

Upon entering his room, Dominik found Private Rainer...studying. Was that what he was doing?

"Have you been doing that the entire time?" Ah. He was aware that the other Private didn't care to be questioned. But who said he had to listen. It wasn't like he raised a hand against him. He didn't think he could get in trouble for that much.

Adrian raised his head a bit when he heard the Private entering the room, though he didn't seem to be in the same state as he had been when Dominik left.
Adrian's hair was a bit of a mess, and his arms seemed to be trembling just slightly, though he would absolutely deny it if anyone pointed it out.
"Yes." He insisted, though it was obviously a lie.

Soon after Dominik had left, the Captain had dragged Adrian off to his own quarters, to whip and beat him, and take him in any way that he could. It was the Captain's own sick, twisted way of testing and challenging Adrian's will and endurance.
He turned his eyes back to the book in front of him, it was a different book, but still related to war and war strategies.
The little cardinal sat quietly in it's cage, watching as Adrian read.

Adrian sighed heavily, trying to calm his shaken nerves as he reached into the pocket of his pants and placed a cigarette between his lips, lighting it with unsteady hands.

Dominik took a closer look at the Private. There was obviously something wrong here. Even he noted the look the other male had. The way he looked shaken. What had happened, he wondered. "I see," That was all he said as he walked up to the side of Private Rainer.

"I don't suppose you need any help with that?" He referred to the fact he was lighting his cigarette with shaky hands. He almost felt sorry for him. Almost.

"Perhaps you should quit those, they aren't good for you." That much he noted himself. He compared that those who smoke, seem to have their overall health lower in some way. From what he could see at least. Though he really would like to see the other Private here quit.

Adrian refused the other male's help, lighting the cigarette himself and shoving it into his pocket. He turned his blue eyes up to Dominik, smoking feverishly, like he'd gone weeks without one.
"Don't tell me what to do." He muttered, exhaling a cloud of smoke, his hands still shivering slightly. Though his back was hidden underneath his Officer's uniform, there were fresh whip lashes all across it, so many at once causing Adrian to shiver slightly from the intense pain.

He turned back toward his desk and stared down at the book, focusing on something so he didn't think about the pain, his blue eyes scanning the pages whilst he smoked his cigarette.
Though it seemed he couldn't stand it much longer.

"God dammit..." He muttered softly on his breath before standing up from his chair, so abruptly that it fell backwards from his motion. He unbuttoned his uniform jacket and pulled it off, tossing it onto the floor, and then he tugged off the white tank top that had been underneath, exposing his beaten torso.
The fabric had been sticking to the fresh wounds when the blood dried, and every time he moved, it would just tear them open again.
Adrian took in a long breath and grabbed up his chair, sitting down once more.

Dominik once again was tempted to frown at Private Rainer's actions. There was something wrong. And he was determined to figure out what. He was thinking to inquire, even though he had basically been told to back off. And then he had to smoke again. Was he doing that on purpose? To irk him. If he did, it was partially working. He wanted to stuff out that cigarette again. He would at some point, if he kept smoking around him.

Any questioned Dominik was thinking to ask, died the moment he heard the other Private curse. Then seeming him get up and remove the upper half of his clothing. It gave him a chance to see the boys damaged back. That was something he actually did frown at.

"I don't suppose you'll mention what you've been doing earlier, if I asked?" He was hoping, but he didn't have his hopes up. He felt he already knew the answer to that question.

Adrian looked up to the other male as he asked him a question, then turned to face his desk once more, taking another long drag from his cigarette. "Nothing happened." He insisted, mainly because he wasn't supposed to tell anyone, the Captain had forced him to promise that.
That, and Adrian didn't trust Dominik quite yet.

"It's getting late. Why don't you go to bed..." He muttered before he grabbed another book and flipped it open, propping an elbow on the desk and trying so hard to focus on his book, even as sharp and stinging pain coursed all throughout his body.

Adrian had a very strange and unbalanced sleeping schedule, he stayed up into the early hours of the morning, and would usually pass out at his desk while studying, only to wake up late in the afternoon.
It was a sleeping habit he'd had since he was young, he'd always study until he passed out at a desk or table.
It was what his father had trained him to do, do be consistent in everything that he did, he strove to be the perfect soldier that his father wanted him to be.

Dominik didn't think to believe what the other Private said. But what more could he say or do. He wasn't fond of having to deal with the other male either. Seeing hims smoke. Even though he had clearly shown he disliked it. Not exactly saying it bluntly. But he knew he more then hinted to it. And Private Rainer even commented on it as well.

"And what about you?" He was curious to know .What would the other Private do. Something he wondered as he came up beside his bed. He would go to bed soon. It was indeed late. But he wasn't just going to go to bed and forget about this. Private Rainer couldn't tell him what to do and expect him just to do it. He didn't need to listen to someone who lied so blatantly to him.

Adrian hunched over his desk, continuing to smoke and staring down at his book. "I'll go to sleep when I want to." He said, tapping one of his boots against the leg of the chair, his foot moving at a quick speed, another sign of his extreme anxiety.
He exhaled a cloud of smoke, his breath trembling, and even though his eyes were focused on the pages in front of him, his thoughts returned to the Captain. He couldn't stop thinking about it, he felt disgusting, filthy. He couldn't believe the Captain, and his logic.

"NO!" He shouted, slamming his fists down on the desk and standing up, and looking over at Dominik.
He stared at him for a long time, his face void of expression, but there was fury in his blue eyes.
Though he slowly began to calm down, his anger now just a dull roar in the back of his head. He just wanted to stop thinking about it, to take his mind off of the entire thing.
He turned his eyes away from Dominik, walking over and grabbing his Mauser from his suitcase before sitting down on the edge of his own bed. He started to polish the Mauser with a dirty old rag, his cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth.
