So do you guys draw more often? Digitally or in your sketchbooks? emotion_c8
[for me, I'm neglecting my sketchbooks and I'm pretty disappointed 'cause I travelled for a long while to get them and they're pretty expensive, but they're so blank!! emotion_donotwant ]

Sketch book. I'm a complete sucker for a soft pencil and heavy paper to hide mistakes with the natural feathering that happens. Plus the mindset of moving my hand but having to look at the screen when using a tablet feels too foreign to me still.

Edit: I also think I need a newer computer help help alleviate some of the lag that happens on larger canvases when they get busier.

Well you'll get used to it if you use the tablet often enough cat_3nodding
It's just exactly the same as using your mouse~

But doesn't it feel frustrating to have to redo the whole drawing if something goes wrong? (unlike in photoshop, where you can just undo everything) emotion_kirakira

It can be but it's on of the reasons I build up a drawing slowly. Start with several stick figures, pick one and redraw it, fix and rework, add basic shapes to help build up the figure, fix and rework, start adding basic shapes of details, fix rework, then start specific details like patterns, facial features etc.

I also keep my lines very light to avoid needing to use to much pressure with an eraser, unless of course I'm doodling on break at work and only have access to a stumpy little pencil with no eraser, then I just keep sketching over top of lines till it looks right and then bring it home and treat it like a thumbnail.

Whoa that's passion!! awesome emotion_kirakira
Ehe but for me, I always somehow end up disappointed with my past works, and then tearing the page out... (I can't be eco-friendly with my sketchbooks emotion_facepalm )

I did that too for awhile. It's when I switched to dollar store sketch books. The paper isn't as nice but the price is a heck of a lot better.

Had the attitude of "It's not good enough to be seen" so I don't want it in my book anymore. Had one sketchbook that was 250 pages but by the time I had filled it, it was down to maybe 50. xd

Now I just leave it all in though as it's a reminder of progress. Plus there are often times I've found that on a page I hate there's one thing I like. Could be the way I drew an arm, an eye, a thumbnail or even a single curve that I circle in red to look back on.

digital, not being able to fix my mistakes is a huge no no for me, plus ive had a tablet for about 9 years now so it comes naturally xD
the only trad art i do is with pen in my school notebooks, i mostly practice faces and shading, and sometimes just random silly doodles of crazy characters ahaha
i used to draw much more in recycled lined paper, but that was a looong time ago xD
i still have them, for memory's sake ;u;/

Definitely digital for me these days though if I'm planning something big like layout design I'll go back to a piece of paper so I can wildly scribble notes and stuff.

I find I draw a lot faster on paper though so I have heaps of printer paper and sketch pads lying around that I can pick up and sketch in if I need to get an idea down. Something about the texture of paper and the pencil lead just has it's own appeal that I like to see and you can't properly get that on digital.

I used to be the same with my sketch pads in that they would dwindle in size from tearing out 'inferior' drawings. The fact that I would bring them with me everywhere and that people would ask to see if it I would mention drawing made me feel like I was carrying about a portfolio of sorts and I didn't want anyone to see the 'not perfect' pictures.

I kinda grew out of that though. Not everything I do is gonna be perfect but the idea is what counts and you might never have that same idea again so you might as well keep it then revisit it at a later date to 'fix' whatever you thought was wrong with it.

I really try to use both to stay balanced but I guess lately it's been sketch book over digital. I sketch in my book to pass time, make small observations or jot down an idea for something that I want to do in the future. But digital is more fun seeing as I may not worry about mistakes as much, plus it becomes for colorful. I think it's a nice thing to try to balance time on both, so you don't get rusty when digitally sketching or reach for ctrl+z when traditional sketching (that has happened to me twice before...).

Sketchbook and pencil because I can do it anywhere without needing to lug about a computer or have to worry about finding an outlet in case things need charging. Also I feel I have a lot more control with pencil and paper. That being said seeing what people are able to produce digitally and the ease (not to mention the cost of materials) of fully rendering an image in comparison I'd like to get better digitally.

Sketchbook! Tablets are lovely for inking and coloring, but I still do almost all of my rough sketches by hand and scan them in. There's just something so romantic about putting a pencil to paper, as opposed to working entirely on a screen.

digitally, but when I draw irl it improves my digital game so much so I should really do more irl stuff

I used to be that way, I seem to be switching recently! I'm actually practicing very little on either, but with my classes demanding traditional exercises I'm going to the sketchbook a tad bit more often now.

I'm a sucker for traditional art. I feel like if I actually took the time to learn how to properly use a tablet I would do digital art more often (because honestly I really love the way it looks~) but I love painting. Watercolor, gouache, I love the strokes the technique the relationship you have with your brush your paper. All of the energy from all of the materials it's just so calming and peaceful to me. Serenity.
