Remy nodded. "I figured as much...long nights make you think, y'know. But...why let what you are define who you are? That's my problem here...a lot of 'em act like there's some kind of destiny attached to all of this, and nobody can give me a good reason why I have to act a certain way or anything."

Azana shrugged. "You act like you...maybe they lose that, become more vampire than person after a certain point."

Sosol nodded...that seemed to make sense. For a little while, he had lost himself in his role as Oracle...it took Azana to shake him back to reality.

he held up a finger. "Well, that's just it! That's the thing! A person can be a human, a human can be a person, but it's not the same thing! I tried telling her that, but she said I was a vampire. I don't see what that has to do with it. I'm a vampire, yeah, but I'm also a person, with my own tastes and ideas and such."

"Well, I guess it's a matter of what makes you you, in your own mind." Sosol spoke up this time. "Is it your family? Your job? Your memories and interests?" He glanced over to Azana. "Maybe being a vampire is all Angeles feels defines her properly."

Azana simply offered a nod, finishing off her lemonade. For a moment there, she had felt an anxiety she couldn't place...and she wondered if Sosol had picked up on it, too.

I hope you're not getting yourself killed, Hunter...

Angeles walked down the stairs and stopped to look around. The hunter was not there and she descended the rest of the way down the stairs. Immediately the door opened and Angeles stumbled then turned and ran back up the stairs. The sound of her door slamming shut resounded through the inn.

D's hand slid from the handle and he glanced at the small group of people inside the main room before he stepped in and shut the door behind him. He then made his way up the stairs without so much as a greeting.

With utter calm he stepped into the hallway and asked to no one in particular, "which one is her room?" he lifted his left hand and a face soon contorted in the hollow of his palm.

"Why do you need me for this? This is abuse of my power just knock on the doors there's not that many in here," D didn't respond and continued to hold out his hand, "tch fine," the hand twisted his lips and narrowed his eyes in concentration before saying, "sixth door on the left facing the west."

D went straight to the room specified and tried the handle, but it didn't move. He looked up at the wood of the door and said calmly, "Angeles."

"Leave me alone," responded the vampire in a fightened voice, her entire body was pressed against the door to keep the hunter out, though a futile move as it was.

"Open the door Angeles, or I will," that was not a threat, his voice was calm and fluid through his words and Angeles tightly closed her eyes and gritted her teeth as if in pain.

"You sure are acting very guilty." said the simbiote in D's left hand. Angeles' eyes snapped open and she whipped around and the door flew open, snatching D's wrist and holding it so that she was glaring at the small face in his palm.

"Guilty!? You think I don't feel guilty about what I've done!?"

D didn't move or even react. If he so wanted Angeles would not have been able to grab his hand. The simbiote shrunk back into D's palm for a moment before Angeles caught her breath in her throat and dug her heels against the ground as D strode calmly forward. Angeles pushed with all her strength against D but regardless she slipped backwards into her room. Once they reached the center D stopped and turned, shutting the door behind him.

"May be...I base myself as a person on what memories I've got, what innate morals and ethics go...I don't actively make up my personality, I just...am. What makes me is me, some of it myself, some reflected from the rest of the world. Not what I am..." he replied, rubbing the back of his head tersely.

Angeles came down the stairs briefly. She fled. The stranger entered. He chased.

Angeles released D's hand and retreated as far away from him as she could, feeling a bit of tensity from the collar as she was nearing the barrier that had been programmed into it.

"What do you want D?" she growled, trying her best to hide her fear.

"What are you hiding?" asked the young man's fluid voice.

"It's none of your business."

"I'm here," said D calmly, "it is my business."

Angeles glowered, keeping her back against the wall and lowered her voice, "I gave you my answer."

"You lied."

Angeles' eyes widened slightly before narrowing.

"I want the truth. Either you can tell me, or I can find out."

"I'm protecting someone else's memories."

"Do you think I care?"

Angeles fell silent and tilted her head down but did not take her eyes from his. She pressed further against the wall as she felt his aura. After several minutes of silence the young man's voice rolled out as if sighing heavily, "you didn't bite the elder woman."

((and with that I go to bed.))

(WHAT THAT'S ULTRA-UNFAIR YOU MASTER OF SUSPENSE heart Sleep tight!)

Gren's car pulled up, well [past dark, and he walked in with a heavy-hearted sigh. He poured himself a martini, shaking it thoroughly, and flopped into a chair. "What a damn nightmare..."

"What happened?"

"Eli's heart stopped, and so did mine until they got him going again..."
he groaned in reply.

"Oh geez! Is, is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I guess..."

"What?! Azana and Sosol said in their increasingly common stereo unison, approaching Gren.

"You didn't think to call me?!" Azana scolded him, waving to Sosol with her drink order.

"He's...he's okay though," Sosol nodded as that thought steadied his mind and hand enough to fill it. "Wait...weren't you with--oh, how is she taking that news?"

"I'm sorry Azana, I was busy panicking and comforting Eli's mother." he quietly snapped. "I should think to make more phone calls during personal emergencies."

Azana shrunk back sheepishly. "S-sorry...I wasn't thinking...I just..." She shook her head, unable to properly explain herself, and caught the glass Sosol sent her way. "They didn't grill you too much, did they?"

Sosol poured himself something to drink. If Eli hadn't returned...

Don't think like that...he's stable again. He'll wake up...though I really wish I could say that with more certainty than simple hope.
PostPosted: Mon May 31, 2010 9:56 pm

He sighed through his nose, trying to be calm. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that...you're just worried too...he's fine, he's stable again...and no, they didn't. I didn't call because I'd gone out today to tell Eleanora what had happened, and then Stella called and told me to get to the hospital, and when I got there, well...they defibbed him, he's back, but man..." he shook his head, taking a sip of the dry martini. "I, I didn't need that to happen, you know?"

"None of us needed that," Sosol echoed, sliding out from behind the bar and joining the two of them in the main room. "I don't think I would be nearly as calm as you now if I had been there..."

Despite our differences, I have to say...I owe him a lot...

Azana gave a nod, though she stored away the fact that Stella had been the one to make the discovery. At least she was there to raise the alarm...but what was she doing there, anyway?

He sighed, setting down his drink, resting his face in his palms with a weary sigh. "I'm calm because I have to be."

"Not necessarily, Gren," Sosol said, glancing at him over his shades. "Feeling afraid for Eli, or angry at Angeles, is entirely reasonable and deserved. Suppression works as a coping device, but only temporarily...sooner or later, you won't be calm. Wouldn't you rather that be at a time of your own choosing?"

Azana quirked an eyebrow at Sosol...she knew that the Oracles had some minor psychological training, but he apparently took that aspect of things very seriously. Probably had to use it on Skuld once or twice, I'd bet.

"Seriously, though...if you don't let off some steam somehow, you're gonna burst..."
