"Right...generous..and thoughtful..." Sofia replied with little to no emotion as she hated thinking about her parents. Two people she didn't considering as a mother or father. They were more like owners of a rare animal to show off to others but after showing off they would pay no attention and neglect it. Sofia's old look was their form of neglect but she chose to be this way. Of course whenever they were hosting a party Sofia was forced to go there and she always looked stunning...far different from her current look. It was living to lives. The whole thing was so exhausting. Her mood had dropped and she wanted to go to bed and be alone. She just wanted to tell his parents to go already.

Alex's father had picked up on Sofia's change in mood, even though he didn't know the reason for it, and he stood up to indicate that the visit had come to an end, and he said, "Well, we'll let you two get back to your studying now." Following her husband's lead, Alex's mother stood and added, "If there's anything that you need, and I mean anything at all, just ask us." When Alex started to stand up as well, his father motioned for him to stay put while saying, "There's no need for you to get up on our account. We can see ourselves out. Now have a good night, you two."

Standing up anyway, Sofia nodded at what his mother said and walked with them over to the door where she said goodbye to them properly though a sudden hug from her mother-in-law caught her a bit off guard. When they left she shut the door and stood there a moment as she tried to understand what just happened but she turned and went back into the kitchen after locking the door. Sofia then went back to her studying even though it was about time she should have gone to bed. Then there was the question if Alex wanted to take a shower again to avoid doing so in the morning. Even though it wasn't her cup of tea, at the moment she didn't care, she had far too much in mind to really be shy about it.

While Alex didn't mind having his parents over for a visit, he was still glad when they had left. It was getting late, and it had been a stressful evening, thanks to his little game of 'fetch' with Bo. He was still feeling bad about it, and so he decided to make up for his mistake with a slight change in what he had planned. Alex went to the kitchen and saw that Sofia was studying. "I'm going to take a shower now," he informed her, "And I'm going to try to figure out how to do things on my own. I need to learn how sometime." After a brief pause, he added, "If I get stuck, I'll yell really loud. OK?"

Sofia looked up from her books and stared at Alex as if he were a stupid child. She shook her head and sighed before standing up. "Look, you got out of the hospital just yesterday and even I know you're not ready to do that simple task alone. You haven't even gone to physical therapy yet, which by the way I have to take you tomorrow. Just stop making things so difficult all the time." With those 'kind' words she went into the bathroom and waited for him. She rolled her sleeves up and yawned.

When he finally decided to come in, like before she helped him remove his article of clothing and of course refused to look anywhere to the wall. Once he was bare, she helped him into the shower and turned the water on. He didn't need help in the shower last time but who knew if he needed help this time. Sofia yet again sat by the tub and waited though this time she brought a book and studied.

Alex did find Sofia's insistence on helping to be just a little bit irritating this time, partly because it spoiled his intention to do something to make up for his previous mistake, and partly because he was starting to feel like he was being babied. Still, he had made the offer, and so he shouldn't be upset if she turned it down. It was entirely Sophia's choice to help him. Like the previous night, he didn't need help with his shirt, and when he was finished with showering, he wrapped the towel around his waist. Alex did find it to be a little amusing that Sofia continued to go to such great lengths to look everywhere but at him.

Once he was dressed, Sofia took her book and looked at him. "Well I don't know if you're going to bed but if you need anything I'll be in the kitchen." With just those words she left him in the bathroom and was already in the kitchen cleaning up what little mess was left. For a moment she was going to turn the faucet on but she remembered that that would end badly. So, she sat back down at the table and continued to study. She had a long way to go so she may be going off to bed rather late, not that that was something new for her. She just hoped that she wouldn't wake him up in the process of getting into bed but then again he was something of a heavy sleeper. Nonetheless she pushed all thoughts aside and focused.

Now that Alex had gotten the showering out of the way, he paused in the living room as he thought about watching a little TV before bed, but he changed his mind. When he glanced in the kitchen and saw that Sofia was studying again, he decided to do that same, only in the comfort of their bed. He wanted to ensure that he was ready for the test the next day. While it might seem that he had poor study habits, he did maintain a high grade point average to help ensure that he got into the college of his choice, and because good grades were a requirement to play football. Being injured was not going to be accepted as an excuse for him to slack off as far as studying was concerned. Besides, he wanted to show Sofia that he was capable of making logical and mature choices on his own.

Late into the night, Sofia finally finished studying and rubbed her tired eyes. These past few days have been stressful and the lack of sleep was getting to her. She stood up and almost fell over but she quickly braced herself by grabbing the edge of the table. After regaining her balance and vision, she reached up and felt her own head, feeling that her forehead was warm. Perhaps if she slept it would stop a fever from happening. So, she went off to bed and slept for the rest of the night.

Morning came quickly and when she opened her eyes it was as if she had laid down, blinked and the sun was already coming up. Sitting up, she felt horribly dizzy...apparently the fever came though for now it wasn't too high. And so, after taking a shower she made breakfast as usual and waited for Alex.

Alex had drifted off to sleep before Sofia had come to bed, and hadn't noticed when she had done so. When morning came, he got up at the same time that he had the previous morning, which made it the second morning in a row that he had gotten up that early. Once he was dressed, he joined Sofia for breakfast. He noticed that she didn't quite seem to be herself that morning, and so he asked, "Are you feeling alright?"

"I'm fine," Sofia replied with a reassuring smile as she forced her breakfast down her throat. She just hoped that the fever wouldn't get worse at school and so once they were done with breakfast she headed out, helping him in the car as usual. Once in the car she drove off to school, carefully of course as to not get in some accident. Her vision was lightly blurry but not too bad. Of course Debra came along since it was now a daily thing to give her friend a ride to and from school. She was silent and wasn't in the mood to speak so the radio kept the car from filling with awkward silence. After a couple minutes they reached the school and they were out and in the class already. The test was something she was sure she could pass with flying colors so she just went over everything that she had studied yesterday.

The class felt like it took forever and she finally finished her test and turned it in. Typically she was the very first one to finish and turn in but she was about the tenth person to do it. The mild fever was making it a bit difficult for her to remember some things as quickly as she normally remembered them. But finally the class was over and she could move on with the rest of the day. And throughout the day and all the tests she had, she began to feel worse and worse. By the time lunch came around she and Debra had to eat in the cafeteria again. Sofia could not stomach anything and would not eat as she just rested her head on the table which was cool and felt nice against her forehead.

Debra had noticed that Sofia was a bit sluggish when she and Alex had picked up Debra that morning, but she hadn't said anything. When lunch came, and it was clear that Sofia was feeling sick, Debra decided that she wouldn't remain silent any longer. "If you're sick, you should just go home. I'm sure that no one will get upset if you miss a half day. Have you missed a half day of school in your entire life? That is allowable in certain circumstances, and I'm sure that this is one of them."

As luck would have it, Alex and Greg were on their way to the cafeteria when Alex heard the football coach call out, "Hey King! I wanna talk to you!" "Sure, Coach," Alex replied as he turned to face the coach. "Didn't see you at practice yesterday," the coach said in a tone that was borderline accusatorial. "Oh. I... ah... didn't think that you needed me there," Alex replied hesitantly. His excuse didn't appear to surprise the coach, and he went on to say to Alex, "Listen here, King. The school pays me to coach our football team to the state championship each year, and in order for me to do that, I need to utilize all of the tools at my disposal. You are one of those tools. Now the truth of the matter is that Nate got lucky last Friday. You know it, and I know it, and we both know that luck won't take anyone all of the way to the championship. Now you have the knowledge and experience that Nate lacks, and as a member of the team..." The coach paused long enough to inquire, "You are still a member of the team, aren't you?" Alex knew better than to say that he wasn't, and so he nodded and replied, "Of course I am, Coach!" "As a member of the team," the coach went on to say, "It behooves you to act as a mentor for Nate and to teach him the things that he needs to know. If you would like, you can think of yourself as an unpaid assistant coach." Alex accepted that with a nod and replied, "That works for me, Coach." "Good. I'll see you at practice this afternoon," the coach stated instead of asked. "I'll let Sofia know so that she can expect me to call for a ride afterwards." Alex said. The coach waved his hand dismissively and replied, "Don't bother her like that. If one of your teammates can't give you a ride home after practice, I'll give you a ride." "Sure, Coach," Alex said in return, and the coach went on his way. As could be expected, Greg gave Alex a mischievous smile and said teasingly, "It must be nice to know that you're not completely useless." "Even if I was bedridden in a full body cast, I still wouldn't be completely useless," Alex stated with a smirk, "What I want to know is, what's your excuse? You throw a football like my grandmother!" "I've seen your grandmother throw a football. That's a compliment!" Greg jested in return.

Sofia turned her head so she could look at Debra and smiled, "I'll be fine. Besides I have tests in my next two classes so I just can't leave. Once I get home I'll just rest all day. I've been sick before, nothing I can't handle." She chuckled and sat up, sucking up how sick she felt and tried to show Debra that she was indeed fine. But if anyone was to touch her forehead they would feel how hot she really was. Sofia nonetheless avoided having anyone try and touch her face. She stood up and began to make her way out. "I'll see you after school by the car, I'm going to class a bit early."

She turned and stared to leave again only to crash into Greg, Alex standing next to him. "Oh...sorry.." she muttered as she tried to keep her balance since bumping into him caused her to become dizzy, her vision blurring ever so slightly. She looked a lot paler than usually and she was sweating just a bit that her hair was plastered on her face. Sofia moved to walk past them.

As luck would have it, Alex and Greg ran into Sofia just then, literally in Greg's case. "Oh good. I was just looking for you," Alex said to her, "I just wanted to let you know that I'm staying for football practice today. You don't have to worry about picking me up afterwards. Coach says that if none of my teammates can give me a ride, he will." Taking a closer look at Sofia, he then added, "You know, you're looking much worse than this morning. You should go home and take some NyQuil or something."

"Oh, alright, I'll probably have dinner done by the time you come home and I'll be fine," Sofia replied rather quickly as she walked past them in a hurry and made her way to her next class even though there was still ten minutes to spare. Everyone already saw her as a nerd and honestly worthless so whenever she got sick she would ignore it as much as possible to show that she wasn't weak and that not even a fever could bring her down. Sofia was in a habit of working herself near death but luckily she always had some maid stumble upon her whenever she passed out from a fever etc. But, now she lived alone with Alex so she would have to break the habit some how. For now though, passing her classes with straight A's was most important.

Finally the day was over and Sofia looked like she was ready to die any moment. She sat in the car waiting for Debra but there was no possible way she would be able to drive. So, when Debra showed up she asked in a weak voice, "Do you know how to drive? If so can you drive?" She held out the keys as she was already siting in the passenger seat.
