In the hope that we may matter something, to someone, anywhere, we bathe in our own mind's blood...

This is the absolute latest I have ever slept on a school night. I went to sleep immediately when I went home and woke up just now, at 5:45 AM... xD

...only to discover that in massacring ourselves, we drive away the ones we want to impress.

I heard the first piece of encouraging news from my job search. One of the people I used as a reference got a phone call today from a school I applied to work at. This is the first piece of evidence that I have received letting me know that I am not sending my resume into a void. xd

Very good sign. I doubt they would check references unless they were definitely interested. 3nodding

I'm kind of worried though. I found out that it was actually an e-mail, but that wasn't the thing that got me. One of the questions was whether I have sense of fashion. rofl If you know me irl, then you know that I usually wear video game t-shirts and jeans with my old worn out sandals, so my reference put "do not know" as her answer. blaugh I just thought it was hilarious that an elementary school would ask that kind of question! I hope that doesn't hurt my chances of getting a job. Of course, just because they checked my references doesn't mean that I will be called in for an interview or even get the job. I'm going to keep applying places. I only have a little over a month to get a job and start paying back my student loans, so I might even end up applying for a job at Publix. xp

But you also know how to dress professionally! gonk I mean, you had to do that every day when you were student teaching.

I have a sense of fashion, but I have several different styles. I have my professional style (businessy-like dresses--I tried suits but have yet to find one that DOESN'T make me look like a child playing dress-up; nice dresses actually look MORE professional on me); my Sunday style (essentially the same dresses, but with gloves and hats--I love old-fashioned accessories, and old-fashioned accessories with a modern twist, like fingerless gloves and miniature hats); my "work at the archives" style (jeans and a non-sarcastic T-shirt--professional enough for a work environment but casual enough for playing in the dirt, which is essentially what my job consisted of. It was fun! whee ); and then my regular, casual, going-shopping (or staying-at-home, or going-to-the-library-to-do-research) stuff. That's usually jeans (or shorts) and either a T-shirt (usually with a sarcastic saying) or a tank top. So...yeah. I'm kind of a clotheshorse. And I'm even worse when it comes to getting/hoarding accessories. blaugh

I have some quasi professional looking clothes, but I don't like wearing them. xp

My mom actually laughed at me today when she saw what I was wearing. I was all proud of myself too because I was color coordinating like how you do your avi on Gaia. I had on a black shirt with a scene from Super Mario Bros for the NES on it. The shirt had green, blue, and black on it. So, I wore green capris with it, blue socks, and black slip on shoes. Apparently that's not considered coordinating outside of Gaia. sweatdrop

Aww. Poor Chibi! blaugh *huggles*
Actually, when you color-coordinate by accentuating less dominant colors, it's usually better to pick your favorite one of the less-dominant colors and do your matching/accessorizing in that one color. At least, that's what my mom taught me. *shrugs*

What do you mean by dominant colors?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:26 am
For instance, your Mario T-shirt was black. That's the dominant color. The other colors (which did not cover as much surface area but were still a visible part of the design) were green and blue. So...if you want to match or accessorize a color other than black for the rest of your outfit, I would pick either green or blue (just one, not both) and match the accessories, shoes, etc. with that color. (Blue pants, blue socks and shoes, etc.)
Basically, the "dominant" color is the color of your shirt or dress (or, if you're wearing an outfit made of printed fabric, this would be the color of the background). The "less dominant" colors would be the colors on the design. (If it's a floral print, for instance, this would be the color of the flowers and the color of the center parts of the flowers.) When I wear an outfit with several colors, I tend to pick one color that I want to bring out, and I'll match my accessories and stuff to that color. (Of course, I wear a lot of black, so my accessories are usually black+a brighter color from that same outfit.)

Okay. That sort of makes sense. I was also told not to wear socks with shorts or capris for some odd reason. I've heard that it is not good to wear socks with sandals, but I don't see why it isn't.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:58 pm
Oh, I agree with not wearing socks with sandals. That used to be popular when I was in middle school, but now I look back and think "What the--!?" But I do wear socks with shorts and capris (even though it does look dorky) because the only shoes I have that are comfortable for shopping, etc. are tennies, and I need socks with my tennies. However, when I do that, I am fully aware that I look silly! blaugh

It's helpful to get socklettes, or ankle socks that stop just under that bump of your ankle bone when you're wearing sneakers with shorts. That way, you look way less dorky.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 8:29 pm
It's good to see you again Zellie! xd *glomps*

I'm not a fan of socklettes. If it doesn't roll down properly, I feel really weird. Not to mention the chafing and rashes. I don't know why, but I have to be very carefully about the way my shoes and socks rub my skin or else my skin gets very irritated and sore. xp I do like knee socks. I have a couple pairs of them, and they keep my legs warm during the winter. whee

I went to see the Scott Pilgrim movie at the dollar theater tonight. I laughed my butt off! xd It was a great movie if any of you need a movie to geek out on.

I like knee socks, but I have yet to find any that fit my big calves. I'm very fat, but my calves are all muscle, so it's hard to find boots, knee socks, etc. I really want to make some knee socks, though, to wear with skirts and stuff. The Fall 2010 issue of Vogue Knitting has several knee sock patterns; unfortunately, they are all for skinny legs, and since they have intricate patterns, I don't know how I'd go about adjusting the pattern for my size. I'll probably post that quandary on the forums at Ravelry and see if anyone there has any ideas.
